What brake conversion size? Your opinion, please
???? The contact area of the pads are surely the same, its just that the pads don't cover the full area of the larger discs missing the inner bits, but the improved braking comes from the leverage advantage (caliper being further out) and better cooling properties of the larger disc.

Supension overhaul
Hi Guys, I am looking to renew every single bush on my car in the near future along with new shocks and springs. There is nothing obviously wrong with my car at the minute, but I'm on a mission to make it as close to perfect as possible. I'm assuming the suspension will be mostly 15 years old now so its time to tighten it all up! Can someone list all the kits I'll need to renew the entire lot, confused about the front upper control arm bushings (don't seem to be available) and also if I get new standards shocks do they come with new bushes? My car is an import. Many thanks in advance Guys.........:hyper:

Bit bias but.. 300zx or GTO?!
Its amazing how a photo can hide so many rough edges............

Bit bias but.. 300zx or GTO?!
BTW, if the red car at WRC is still for sale, stay well clear, we viewed this one and it is very rough indeed! Beware.

Bit bias but.. 300zx or GTO?!
The pop up head light GTO is 280bhp, the face lift model with a 6 speed box is 320bhp and statistically they are still not quite as quick as the UK Zed TT. Me and my friend did much research into the GTO before he bought one 3-4 months ago.

Bit bias but.. 300zx or GTO?!
I own a TT auto (import) and my friend owns a GTO TT (import). They are both quality motors, I have been in the GTO several times, it is fast, well built, smooth and refined. The suspension is ROCK HARD though, but it is acceptable with just the odd bump being back breaking. Going on my mates views the GTO drinks harder, being a 4x4 it will! It is MORE expensive to insure Group 20 (300zx =18). Judging purely from the internet, the 300zx is far more supported, more aftermarket parts, more OEM spares, more dedicated specialists etc....just look on ebay for spares for the 2 cars and compare. This will mean its easier to keep on the road! Under the engine bay the GTO looks easier to work on.....the Zeds engine bay is a nightmare! But I don't know this for sure. Personally, a Zed with nice wheels, in excellent condition is a nicer car, nicer to be in as well and statistically is a faster car (UK 300bhp version) than even the 320bhp GTO (not that you'd notice). IMO you'd be pleased with a good example of either car. HTH!:)

Very nice UK TT Manual Z32 on ebay.
I'm passed caring about the current prices of these cars, I don't intend on selling mine for a good few years and the example I've got is worth more to me than the price I paid - if that makes sense. These cars are rare on the roads and very unique, always turning heads when seen. I had some family from Holland over a couple of weeks ago, I couldn't believe the fuss they made over it. They had me get it out the garage and were filming it, taking photos and sitting behind the wheel. That's what there worth! Paid no attention at all to my Partners (Lovely) new MX5. That Ebay example does look excellent though and I'm glad to say has sold!

I'm now a manual
Excellent stuff! Did you have the clutch booster and tanks fitted as well? What sort of price did he charge and was all parts supplied? I'm looking to convert early next year, although my auto seems to work excellently, I can't help feeling a manual would be much better.

Engine Tapping Noise
I also have a tapping/ knocking noise that is more obvious when the engine is cold and nearly silent when warm. I believe that is may be a sticky lifter / tappet. I think it is quite common with these cars at this age, especially those that aren't used as a daily runner - mine isn't. Have you tried a good oil change and some lifter silencer?

Shuts itself off at around 3000rpm or when hitting a bump
Please do! That is, report back! Its always handy to see the resolve of problems like this for any future reference. There are quite a few problem threads on here that never conclude with a solution, so we never know what sorted the particular problem. Anyway good luck sorting it!

How smooth?
Hi Guys, I consider myself to have a healthy example of a TT auto, but I notice on the buyers guide that it says the engine should be completely smooth with not the slightest vibration. My engine runs very well, is fully serviced by a specialist. I don't have any problems. But at warm idle there is the slightest vibration to be felt thru the car. One member on here said if you could feel a vibration on the door sill something wasn't quite right! I have Datascan now, I have turned each cylinder off in turn, there is no noticeable difference in power balance. I've got a funny feeling that this slight vibration is normal and nothing to worry about, but when you read things like this it gets you wondering! What are your cars like at warm idle?? Thoughts Guys, many thanks.

replacing suspension/steering bushes
I'd be interested in what you were told for this, as I'd like to re-bush the whole car soon.

Want to buy datascan and USB lead.
Hi Guys, as the title really, I have just received an email from the Blatz UK seller and was quoted £99 for the software and USB cable. Is this about right or can I get it cheaper? Thanks:)

Your thoughts on price ....
You are right, the later cars did lose some spec, the black seats do look like the material from a Micra! It was because later in life they were struggling to sell, nothing to do with the cars, just the state of economy, so to try and keep the prices level and attractive some cost cutting was done.........That said I've read that the later cars also have some minor improvements, not so much with equipment, but with general chassis and functional components. The car may have done a genuine 40k, but lots of shorter journeys throughout its life meaning more getting in and out so the seats may look at bit worn. The scratch on the window could be because of a small stone or something getting stuck under the rubber and dragging up and down with operation. Wouldn't need to be there for long to deeply score it. So no real indication of mileage. First impressions are important, but can be wrong sometimes. The car I bought before my Zed was 1st viewed in a right mess. It was filthy inside and out. I thought there were lots of stone chips etc, but as I rubbed away, all the marks wiped off. To cut the story short, I bought thinking there was a good car under this mess and sure enough it was excellent! A bit risky, but this instance it paid off. Sounds like you might like this Zed though, because you're posting about it! Some of the Zeds I viewed didn't require a 2nd thought. They were poor! Go and have another thorough look, listen to it running from cold, test all the equipment and see whats what. My Zed was a great find but, I still had to view 4 times before I made a deal and even then I was a nervous wreck assuming there must be trouble ahead. Nearly 18months later, no problems. Cruise control & air con didn't work on mine, but it was just the CC cancel switch (£30) and the air con clutch (£40), all fixed now. I used those points to get my Alarm & immob free. Good luck!

For that sort of money, I'd rather keep my ZX (better looking!), have next to no mortgage - meaning far more pocket money and less worrying!

Brake Fluid
After a quick search for you, I have read that 5.1 is a suitable upgrade to DOT 3 & 4 systems, is not silicon based and will not be effected by mixing with DOT 3 & 4. So yes flush the system through, but it is not over critical. DOT 5 however, is silicon based and must not be mixed with 3 or 4. A complete clean of the system (a fully strip clean of calipers etc) must be undertaken! As I under stand it now, DOT 5 is not 300zx friendly, where as DOT 5.1 is a good upgrade. Hope this helps.

Button?
I also had the front parking 'aerial' fitted, the switch was next to the clock, but the aerial never worked. I had the aerial removed, bumper filled and used the switch to drive the rear aerial, because I listen mostly to CD's and don't want the aerial up unless the radio is on.

Button?
If it has the picture of a turbo on it, then maybe its a high/low boost switch that's been fitted. I have fitted one, but put it in a discreet place and put it into 'low' boost when leaving it at a garage for example. http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/wolfpdf/Z32HIGH_BOOST_SWITCH.PDF

Wheezing type squeel when hard on the brakes.
Yes, I have the same noise and its definately coming from inside the car. When I had my car serviced at Zedworld, Jeff said he had fixed it. Something about a rubber popping out, he popped it back in and all was well for a while, but then it came back......after a few months, so I guess 'IT' has popped out again:headvswal
