Bit bias but.. 300zx or GTO?!

Recommended Posts

Chaps and chapettes, hope your all good and read this in the best of health, I might encounter some bias here but I'm in a dilemma, was going to see a GTO tomorrow after having sold my FTO recently when I thought 'why don't I buy a 300zx?!' After having this though my mind has gone into overdrive and I don't know whether to go see the GTO tomorrow for which I had the cash ready!

Basically I need to ask this - which is better aesthetically in your opinion -answer with no bias =/ Also I kinda know my stuff about the GTO in terms of economy and insurance, do you think these 2 will be much different with the z? Mucho gracias quick response required to win me over to your side!! Bless

I like GTO's, have a Ferrari sort of look but I know nothing about their common problems. Probably more expensive to run than a 300 especially if the GTO NA is 4x4 but again I don't know if the GTO is 4x4 on the NA.

Personally I don't think you will get a honest unbiased opinion on here so my advice would be test both and then decide. Oh, don't touch an auto 300 NA, only manual.

i much prefer the 300zx to the g.t.o (even before i owned a z)

i prefer them looks wise and iv'e also heard people say ride quality and stability are much better in the z, im not trying to slate the g.t.o in any way it's a quality motor but i believe the 300zx is a much rarer sight to see !!

hope this helps (only my opinion off course)

im 23 with 3 years NCD, and my quote through HIC was £730, and i THINK that was FC

Seriously try them, they are EXCELLENT for modded cars, the guy i spoke to on the phone really knew his stuff, and for a 10 percent hike in power, its a 10 percent hike in premium, and non power raising mods do very little to the premium im told :xxx:

i went through this dilema. I think most do. Personally i really liked the gto and still do. I like its low wide stance. I believe performance figures are quite similar. But at the end of the day look what i own lol. Im sure you'll be happy with either car to be honest mate

I own a TT auto (import) and my friend owns a GTO TT (import).

They are both quality motors, I have been in the GTO several times, it is fast, well built, smooth and refined. The suspension is ROCK HARD though, but it is acceptable with just the odd bump being back breaking.

Going on my mates views the GTO drinks harder, being a 4x4 it will!

It is MORE expensive to insure Group 20 (300zx =18).

Judging purely from the internet, the 300zx is far more supported, more aftermarket parts, more OEM spares, more dedicated specialists etc....just look on ebay for spares for the 2 cars and compare. This will mean its easier to keep on the road!

Under the engine bay the GTO looks easier to work on.....the Zeds engine bay is a nightmare! But I don't know this for sure.

Personally, a Zed with nice wheels, in excellent condition is a nicer car, nicer to be in as well and statistically is a faster car (UK 300bhp version) than even the 320bhp GTO (not that you'd notice).

IMO you'd be pleased with a good example of either car.

HTH!:)

Im not a GTO fan Im afraid, They look big and ungainly to me with stick on bits of plastic and I dislike the interior.

They are also a complete pig to work on, had to do some jobs on a GTO (engine bay and Interior) last year and everything was a PITA. The 4wd grip helps with launching and bad weather but hinders mid-range and top end performance and they are a fair bit heavier which dulls the handling. I've only driven an NA, it drove fine, just not very exciting compared to a NA zed.

If your just after a Big all-weather sport cruiser, and you like the looks then you'll be happy, but bear in mind cost of ownership - Maintenance and fuel bills.

Whereas the Supra, 300zx and RX7 are more sports orientated, tunable, cheaper to run and more fun to drive IMO.

The gto never fairs very well in any of the Magazine tests in the past, comparing gto, rx7, supra, 300zx, corvette, porsche...etc

lol cheers lads to be honest I had a dream, it had nothing to do with choosing a car but it was amazing and there were lots of naked women in it. Anyway when I woke up I decided the Z is the one! woohoo! Now all I need to do is find one.. pearl white n/a manual would be smashing :) but like I said before I've checked up and know the stats on both cars are pretty similar give or take, i'm after something though which does turn heads and after having considered that'll be the Z.

AFAIK, the only 2wd GTOs were in the US....and they were FWD!!!!!

GTO was also sold by Dodge as the 'Stealth'. Fortunately, although in later years, Mitsubishi incorporated the Dodge's V6 12valve engine with a miserable 160bhp, it never made it into any Japanese or UK models.

Some parts of me like the GTO, others don't. I have a friend with one (Twin Turbo) and it's a great car for what it is. I don't like the interior and from some angles it looks a little odd. Lots of ugly plastic bits stuck all over the body. They have pretty good road presence, low, wide, squatt.

I seem to see less GTO/3000GTs than Z32s now.

Wouldn't say no to this. VR4 is the model to have really. Although it wasn't my list of cars before choosing the Z, I looked through them and thought about their potential.

If I was going to buy some sort of GT/Sports car from Mitsubishi, then it would have to be the Starion. Always liked the appearance of this car. Not the quickest thing in the world and it doesn't handle as well as it could, but it's so retro-cool!

lets chuck the NA and Auto models out the window, they are the lesser model, you wont get the full potential of the car of these models,

both the Z and GTO.

your just going to get Z votes here arnt you. its like going on a Man united forum and bragging about liverpool lol

personal choice id say, i think the GTO looks a bit soft compared to the Z.

the GTO doesnt seem to be as popular as the Z.

i was thinking about a GTO before, but only becase it was the fastest car on gran turismo :D

fuel wise id guess the GTO to be a bit worse, as is 4WD.

but then that may handle better than the Z?

the GTO VR4 is as fast as an R33 GTR, so lets forget that model lol
