yep, sounds to me too like it's the rubber boot/s...... http://www.300zx.co.uk/cgi-bin/manual.cgi the upper and lower 'dust boots' on that page, they keep a lot of noise out, is it a converted manual or original? may just need fettling, or could be split..... have a gander...

try turning your sidelights on, then trying each indicator, could be the curb lights that light up each side when you put your indicator on so you can see the curb (as said above really)

don't think it makes any difference mate, that's just how your leds are wired up inside, but you don't need another one anyways with those leds you bought...
