If you make proper inlet ducting and proper exhaust ducting to and from your SMIC's they are more efficient than a FMIC's, because the air rushing over the exhaust ports will increase the air flow speeds through you SMIC. The air being pushed through the FMIC still has resistance from the engine and ancillary's even with the pull of the fan and as has been said will reduce engine cooling.

Yes they are good. Had these on one of my cars and the worked fine and dandy. Car did feel more responsive.
