Selling MX5 - Buying BMW
Getting rid of the wifes MX5 - Gonna be asking £4k on ebay later on (old style but black with lots of extras and excellent condition). Looking at replacing it with a bmw 316 or the like for about £1300 L reg onwards (one with the facelift lights) What are these like on fuel etc just as a daily driver.

Car is dead'ed :(
went to matlock yesterday then the clutch decided to fail. no pedal stiffeness whatsover, checked reservoir and it was empty. Used a locking wheelnut as a scoop and took some of the dot4 from my brake fluid and half filled the clutch reservoir with it :) pressed the clutch down and it all emptied, looked under car and big puddle. somethings broken somewhere methinks. got home by selecting 1st gear when engine was off then starting in gear and it jumps forward and presto - your moving, then 2nd and 3rd gear changes without clutch Problem is M1 has roadworks hence a lot of the time as we slowed down I put hazards on and undertook albeit it at a few mph on the hard shoulder. You know the sorta dirty looks you get from people when they dont know you have no clutch. Stopped at a motorfactor and got some dot4 hoping to get enough in just to get me on the final leg home. nope, all i succeeded in doing was jumpstarting the car in 1st again off the kerb cracking the only good sideskirt I had. eventually got home, but have now noticed rear tyres are bald on the inside. This is due to camber on rear being wrong - Not having this adjusted yet, as inner bushes are out and they are being swapped over next week sometime. So I need Fix Clutch reservoir/pipe 2 new tyres fit new hicas arms/bushes then 4 wheel alignment. fix up bodywork very disheartened now :(

M5, yeah I had one of them or should I say he had me never known owt like it - I pulled away then he musta realised I was playing - all I see was a fookoff big BMW badge in the rear view mirror, he caught me up like you wouldnt believe - fookin starship enterprise warp speed them things

Unorthodox pulley, decatt & full stainless exhaust, apexi intake, boost raised to 15psi, aggressive remap chip, ACT Heavy duty clutch, lots of optimax Car runs 0-60 @ 4.78 (G-Force & Datascan - several runs) and has no ECU faults registered. Gonna have to get bigger intercoolers, 555's then larger tubs :)

true, looks wise I think we win hands down. Rarity wise - again hands down and if the road was longer to get into the higher gears it might have been a different story. Still cant work out how I heard his dump valves sl low down tho - really revved it low at lights and an almighty woosh he time he revved. Didnt think it was possible to develop boost at low rpm like that - either that or he ahd one of them daft speakers that means it wasnt a turbo :) God, that'd make mine even slower.....

Not happy - nearly beaten
twice in one night!!! :( 1st was a Sierra, sounded lovely, really high pitched exhaust on it. LIME green though :( But it was fast, Had the Cossie and NOS signs on the back but unsure as to whether it had either. Bloody fast though - pulling away I could pull up behind it and close the gap but it wasnt easy - at higher speeds It was pretty hard to close gap after overtaking etc. 2nd one was a rover 220 Turbo Sat behind me at lights, revving - one thing I noticed was at low revs I was hearing his dump valves - mine you have to rev to about 3-4K and jump off to hear em but his was dumping at about 1500rpm????? Bloody loud they were too Set off from lights and put about 2 cars distance in between us then couldnt shift him. Just snitched it into fourth before we ran out of road.

front caliper noise
Getting a sorta whining/high pitched scraping from my front drivers side brake caliper. I thought at first it was a bearing on my power steering pump (That sortta noise), but its only there when I move car, and gets faster. I tried bending back the guard slightly in case that was rubbing/catching. Shims are all in and pins are pushed in etc any ideas? Shall I just get it up in the air and strip it down to try and find out Or is there something I can do with wheel firmly on ground? Ive tried hitting it with a rubber mallet too :)

Motec Engine Management.
Im sure its switchable, if its ECU your on about. from what I remember JD had 4 maps (I could be wrong) on his car something like chip is 1Mb and maps take up 256K each - I know he switched between maps on his - (custom build jobbie not motec). All from what I remember

whining/squeeling noise
the left (as your looking at the engine) is the power steering belt

Mountain bike
looking into getting a bike, trying to get fit :) What sort of things should I be looking for - price is a biggie - must be cheap at the moment. Im 6ft so would I go for a 21" frame? Full suspension? Any makes worth going for/avoiding? Would like something fairly light but I guess cost goes up. Been looking on fleabay at around the £60-£80 mark at moment - like I said - Cheap :)
