Lack of power (not wet air filter!)
There's a guide somewhere of how to make a boost leak tester out of the end of a drinks bottle and an tire valve off a bicycle inner tube - I'll have a quick look for the guide. Pretty sure you cut the end off the bottle where you'll have enough to clamp it round the pipe you're testing, cut the valve out of the inner tube and put it through where the screw top would have been - bit of sealant and there's your boost leak tester. I wouldn't put it through the end of the MAF though I'd at least test each side seperately - so pull the T shaped bit of pipe off and test each side of the T. Having said that my next step after what you'd already checked would be get the compression checked just to rule it out :) HTH

Diesel runaround advice needed.
The MPG I'm talking about is what's displayed on the trip computer in the car - but I have to say it seems pretty accurate! My Dad drives pretty steady though to make sure he gets the best MPG he can as he has to pay for his own fuel on the commute to work. I know that some on-board computers are inaccurate for example the 2.0 diesel Mondeo we have says it does 58 MPG on the computer when it does noticably less miles on the same amount of litres as the passat and when worked out manually between full tanks it actually averages more like 51MPG :)

Huge Thanks to JeffTT & Family
As has been said...massive thanks to all involved in organising today - great day even if I did turn up a bit late. Definately up for a summer bbq meet! Will hopefully have the zed on the road for next time!

Diesel runaround advice needed.
Looks maybe slightly overpriced to me matey - worth a look though! You might be able to knock them down a couple of hundred quid! But I would certainly recommend going to look at one before you bought something else to have a look what you think of the build quality and drive of them etc.

Lets try the Zedworld bash again!
Lol just been looking through the thread and wondering how many people are actually going in zeds! Mine's not gonna be on the road till April so I'll be in the corsa and I've noticed quite a few others are coming in other cars! Will be a good meet nonetheless!

Diesel runaround advice needed.
Gotta say I'd agree with this! If I ever need another 'normal' car I know what I'd have straight away - diesel Passat. You can pick them up for pretty cheap if you go for a slightly older one as well - recommended them to my Dad and a few months ago he picked up a '01 (I think) 110bhp saloon with a fair amount of goodies (climatronic air con, 6 disc changer etc) for £1300 and I've had it do over 70mpg on a run. He does a 60 mile commute each way in rush hour every day (uses mostly motorway but the M6 so it's still a nightmare with stop and start mostly at the Birmingham end of his trip) and the average is always high 60s. The mileage soon stacks up on any of his cars and so far he's not had a single problem with this. Proper decent quality cars :)

The Best empty road in Wales?
I like the sound of that for a meet in summer! Bound to be a pub near the beginning of the stretch for us to organise a meeting then one at the other end to park up for a bite to eat and some zed chat. We'll have to see if people would be up for it when the weather warms up a bit.

Snapped Downpipe Bolts
Yeah all sorted with tackling the old ones - was just wondering what was the best preventative measure for the downpipe flange more than anything - get genuine Nissan bolts and a bit of copper grease? Having said that - I have no idea if the threads are original sizes! Cause the bolts I took out/snapped off were all different sized heads at least!

Snapped Downpipe Bolts
Sorry to bring this back up - just coming to putting the car back together and was wondering if there's any recommended tips to try and stop this happening again? Special bolts etc. Doesn't seem to have anything to do with the bolts being on the exhaust with my car as 2 bolts on the exhaust heat sheild have snapped - 2 in the wings that hold the old air intake ducting on (not bothered about these though), 1 on the nose panel, and I snapped one of the studs that holds the front bumper on but somebody had already broken 2 of them before me - so when it goes back it's got one nut holding it on mainly lol.

£145 cancellation charges?!
Lol - it's only fair...they've gotta get their money off you from somewhere when you're premium is 300 quid when some of us pay 800 for a daily driver! ;) In all seriousness though - most of the cost for the insurance is supposed to be in drawing up the initial documents when you take the policy out? That's perhaps why you don't get much back when cancelling even after just a few months.

HTC Desire phone
You must be talking about Windows Mobile 7 there then? On the HTC HD7? Does look pretty good and to be honest is pretty cheap for a phone with software that's not long been created. I've got the HTC HD2 which was the version before the HD7 which only came with Windows Mobile 6.5 which was utter crap. Laggy, crashed all the time, consumed battery life like you wouldn't believe etc - and not only that but if you get it from o2 originally they disable software updates on it. So you can't just plug it in and get new firmware etc to sort the problems out. However I flashed mine with Android 2.2 and it really shows off the hardware that's in the phone! Much better than an iPhone4 now IMO. There's also a version of Windows Mobile 7 being tweaked almost ready to run on a HD2 ;) - any other HD2 users on here?

Where can I get copies of a wheel centre cap?
I've got a set of Stern 17" Reverse Face II wheels which I understand are quite rare - and that's probably why I can't find any spare centre caps for sale anywhere. I was wondering if anyone on here would know if there's a place that would be able to take the one centre cap I have and make copies for the other wheels? Thanks in advance, James

Video Editing
If all you want to do is cut it down I'd use Movie Maker because as said it's free and more than capable of doing the job :) In fact - I used to film and create DVDs of events as a job and if all you needed to do was cut down a piece of footage movie maker is quicker and easier than the more advanced programs like Pinnacle Studio and Adobe Premiere Pro which until you're used to it is pretty confusing lol.

This kit any good?
Any news on these yet? Thinking the plunge and getting some. Does it make much difference which wattage you have? i.e. 35w or 55w. I dont wanna end up as one of these people I hate who have lights that blind you though - if 35w is up to the job I'd rather take those than risk glaring oncoming traffic with 55w?

High Mileage in the Z
Its worth remembering the zeds engine is a 3 litre and steady cruising at a fast A road/motorway speeds for example doesn't use that much of the engines power reserve - similarly to a larger engined 5 series - so you aren't straining the engine at all. If anything I'd say that as a fast gt car - its almost ideal for high mileage cruising - if you can afford the petrol lol.

Crazy guys tried to attack me in the Zed today in uxbridge
Got to say bad as it sounds this seems to be the only way to get things done these days - but I would never do this either:innocent:

Leaking cam covers
Cool! Gives me an excuse to get the plenum off for an attempt at polishing as well! Thanks for the help
-
Leaking cam covers
I suppose this is really the only place oil can leak from the top of the engine? On mine it looks like its been running down the back of the block around the bellhousing and onto the floor - this a usual characteristic of this leak or sound like something else?

Lets try the Zedworld bash again!
I'll be there but in the Corsa :( possibly +1 as well if that's OK.

Anyone know much about the SR20DET?
Yeah will be posting on SXOC as well once I've remembered my username lol. Thanks anyway

Anyone know much about the SR20DET?
Got a bit of a technical problem with a s14a and thought perhaps someone might be able to help on here. The car has an apexi avc-r fitted to it and a hybrid fmic but otherwise the engine is standard and im struggling to set the boost controller up properly after it was reset - it intermittently holds back at about 4.5k and the boost is really hit and miss. Sometimes it pulls really well but yesterday a saxo was pulling away from it (which must have been modified cause it wasn't hanging about by any means). At idle it has the VVT rattle which goes away when you put it into gear and touch the throttle - could this be causing the power problems? Also - sometimes you can hear as the turbo starts to spool up what sounds like the BOV dumping air really quickly - any ideas what this is? I didn't think it could be the BOV as when it does it the boost is just starting to build so it's only at around 0.8 bar - but when it pulls really well it will hold 1.2 bar fine? Thanks in advance!

Black Apexi AVC-R
Looks like I'll have too lol - Temple have cancelled my order due to being out of stock as well. Cheers for all the help :)

Black Apexi AVC-R
Yeah good idea but (and I know I'm being picky) I prefer the white graphics rather than the blue. If I'm gonna pull my finger out and get this car done I may as well get it done the way I've always wanted it done and do it properly lol. Gonna give it a go from Temple Tuning when I get in from work anyway. Cheers for the advice everyone.
