ECU Advice
I am in the process of putting my car back together and when its back on the road I will be turning the boost up to 14psi. I had been told by a reliable source that the car was chipped but couldn't remember what chip they said it was so I thought I would pop the ECU open and have a look. In doing so I was confronted with very stubborn screws which rounded and I had to chisel to get out. Only to find that inside the ECU is a standard Nissan chip - the ECU is not socketed. What would be the best plan of action from here? Is there anybody that can supply a replacement socketed ECU with chip for 14psi and breathing mods? Is my ECU likely to be completely knackered now I've given it a bit of a battering getting the screws out - or could it be sent off to somebody to socket and provide a chip? Any advice appreciated, James

lightened flywheel and clutch suppliers
That's great for approximate prices cheers Smithy. Jeff if you happen to see this thread - I'm very interested in buying whichever clutch and flywheel you recommend for my car so if you check your emails you should have one from me to reply to with the details. Failing that I will keep trying to call you this week. James

lightened flywheel and clutch suppliers
Anyone managed to get any info from Zedworld about this clutch? I have emailed all 3 of their email addresses and had no reply. I've tried to call them a few times this week and number is either busy or no answer!

BUMP - were there ever any more details supplied about this flywheel and clutch package? I am on the lookout for a lightened flywheel and slightly uprated clutch.

2fast2cool2 side mounted intercoolers
Sorry to hijack your thread - I am also looking for some SMICs at the moment and these seem top of the list at the moment. I had my eye on SlickPetes SMICs that are for sale on here but as said height seems to be a factor in the efficiency of the cooler and SlickPetes intercoolers dont seem particularly tall? Bazz-HKS sidemounts sounds a very interesting alternative to consider but cant see a for sale thread for them and I can't PM at the moment...how much did you want for them?

2fast2cool Upgraded SMICs any good?
Cheers for the advice people! I don't think they were on the Japspeed website when I first checked because as soon as I saw them on eBay I wondered if they would be made by Japspeed as I know a lot of 2fast2cool stuff for the zed is. Prior to spotting these I have looked at Z1 intercoolers and a couple of the more expensive ones but as pointed out they are not so good value for money at the moment having taken into account the worst case scenario price i.e. import duty, VAT, shipping charges. Also, it's probably worth pointing out that my zed isn't anything particularly special power wise - it's just got standard turbos with upgraded bearings in for 14psi so it doesn't need a state of the art intercooler (what I mean by that is expensive) lol - a slight improvement over stock would suffice just to keep charge temps a bit safer. Cheers for pointing out the ones SlickPete has for sale Joely P. I will sleep on it and see if they are still up for grabs in the morning.....I know it sounds silly when they're half the price but I wanted them to be shiney :p

2fast2cool Upgraded SMICs any good?
As in title I just wondered if anyone had any opinions on the 2fast2cool intercoolers that have recently appeared on eBay. eBay Link I did do a search on here trying to see whether anybody on here had fitted these and what they thought to the quality but it didn't turn anything up. Also, I couldn't find any sizes of the stock intercoolers so couldn't tell whether the cores are even any bigger than standard. The pressure drop figure sounds pretty good to me but I couldn't find anything zed related to compare it to. Any opinions appreciated! James

any one rebuilding a zed???
I've got a fair bit of work planned for mine and have been building up my collection of parts this year. Unfortunately no time to fit them due to work commitments so I sent it into a garage which resulted in me paying £500 for £250 of welding that I was told was gonna be free (so called mates) :cursing: And now it has been taken to another mates garage and he has taken the engine out ready for me to sort out replacement turbos. After the engine is back together and tested got a new rad to put on her (and potentially will try to get hold of some better intercoolers and a new exhaust system), then it will be painted either Midnight Purple LP2 or Honda Pirate Black Pearl. After that I have got a new interior, new sound system, AVC-R, refurbed wheels and plenty of other goodies I've forgotten about to go on. No pics though at the moment :(

Coil over porn
Got these on my s14a. These plus polybushed everything makes the ride only good for drifting - that's my excuse anyway ;)

replacing water pump costs
Incorrect. If the bearings go in the pump the shaft (to which the fan is attached) can go p1ssed! Or if you're particularly unlucky the shaft could snap!

paint codes
That's the first time I've ever seen the Honda Pirates' Black colour. Is it similar to Nissan Midnight Purple but slightly more subtle purple pearl? I had my mind set on Nissan LP2 for my respray but now wondering about Pirates' Black!! Thing with these kinds of paint is it's hard to tell the differences and decide which one you prefer unless you see them side by side in the same light :confused1:

Having No money can work out ok sometimes!!
In my experience it seems the other way round sometimes! Wider 17s are more costly than the same width 18s. Not sure if 17s are perhaps old hat now and everyone wants 18s? :)

Totally gutted
Agreed bud! Hope I didn't offend you :flowers: - as I said in my first post I'm sorry to hear about the accident and I'm sure you won't exaggerate your claim. Some of the other replies whilst meant in good spirits to lighten the mood may have sparked thoughts that come from my experience of people I know that have exaggerated claims but as said - I know that won't happen with yours. Good luck getting her back to top condition mate. James

Totally gutted
Yup agreed. If people used insurance for the purpose its actually meant for i.e. to get you back in the position you were before the damages occured (as far as money can do in some cases) instead of the "THESE B,,,,,DS ARE GONNA PAY" attitude we would all be a lot better off and I would be able to insure my zed for a reasonable amount of money instead of £1500 more than what its worth (per year!!!) /rant

Totally gutted
Agreed! Sorry to hear about this Chris! I'm sure she will be back as she was in no time. Also Steve makes a valid point about insurance - as a younger driver I would just like to say for anyone that might be reading this please dont be one of these that exaggerates damages and causes my insurance to be even more extortionate!! (as I'm sure you wont Chris) James.

engine check light on poor running
Check the ECU for errors bud it should tell you what is wrong with it - there is a guide to checking it using on here somewhere I'll try to find it.

couple of problems help please,
Sorry mate I wasn't being funny - just clarifying my own thoughts and yours really. It was the above quote and the bold part that was confusing me - you can only use a boost controller to take the boost level up. You can't go lower than the wastegate setting. That's the part I was trying to make clear for anyone else reading as well. You can only go upwards of 7psi on a Zed with stock actuators.
-
couple of problems help please,
I'm a bit confused as to what you mean here. To clarify - you can only use a boost controller to increase boost above actuator pressure (wastegate setting/safety boost). For example - if you have an EBC and you turn it off you will still get boost - actuator pressor (~7psi). Back to Terry's car - if you've checked the clutch on the fan is free when the engine is cold mate it sounds like perhaps your old fan clutch was slipping so you weren't used to the noise of a working one? Just as a double check - check that it's not the electric sub fan in front of the radiator you can hear as this would indicate a fault. My viscous fan is quite noisey on startup for probably about 20 seconds then it fades out to pretty quiet unless you're listening for it then as the car warms up it speeds up and gets louder again. The boost problem sounds like it would be either your boost solenoid or perhaps a split pipe/boost leak opening up when your turbos spool up to a certain pressure? Then when the boost has leaked out the split closes until the boost builds back up and opens the split again. HTH

70psi causing tickover oil smoke??
This was my understanding as well from when I looked into it - as it seems more a question of when you will need a rebuild not if ;) Bottom end and rods I think? are forged as standard and you're best off going for Wiseco pistons, Cometic head gaskets and a Nissan full service and gasket kit which I believe is the least Jimmer recommends and budgets for each time.

quick question
Once you've removed the glass from the front of the headlight the dishwasher actually cleans it really well ;)

Any one know someone in the paint industry?
Chris (Artztogo on here) recommended one to me in Wednesbury called Parkside Autos. He used to do something in the bodyshop line of work (retired now I think?) so he's a good person to speak to! Not used them myself as its a bit far for the zed as it has no MOT so I'll be using Millenium in Stoke as the garage that's doing the MOT work for me recommends them and will transport the car to them for free ;) If you're not sorted within a few weeks I'll be posting pics and my opinion of the work :) HTH

Help with customer care issue
Having read the PMs in your first post Jeff the only thing I can think of that may have frustrated the customer slightly is where you've not answered his question as to whether it's been posted or not with your reply "OK all good". The only other thing I'm wondering is perhaps how long you may have taken to reply to the guys PMs initially? I know from experience that getting a reply via PM or telephone has been a problem a few times for me leaving me to go elsewhere - which isn't ideal for me because of your experience with these cars. As you asked for feedback - perhaps this is something worth thinking about improving. HTH

Standard boost guage "stuck" on zero
With the ignition off does it go back to the far left or stay stuck on zero? IIRC with the ignition off mine returns to the far left then when you turn it on mine goes to 0 - so if there was a pipe or sender issue it would go to the far left with the ignition off and stay at 0 whenever the ignition is on? Might be a way of working out whether the guage is completely stuck or if its a sender issue. HTH

battery losing charge
As said above - try and get hold of a multi meter to check the voltage of the battery. Should be just over 12 volts when the engine is not running and there's nothing switched on then with the engine running it should show just over 14 volts. Things like alarms and big I.C.E systems can dramatically reduce the lifespan of a battery if the car is not used reguarly so that's another thing to check.
