eek, no v-power or ultimate!
Cheers Athene! Still don't know what to do though because I'm not ENTIRELY sure what year my car is and therefore whether I have pintle-less injectors or not. It's supposed to be a '95 M according to the docs, but it's a Jap import and apparently it's not uncommon for them to add a few months to make them seem newer. When I replaced my thermostat it was marked '93 and the plastic panels in the boot are marked '94 (or the other way around...) so I dunno what it is! I'll just try to keep to the VPower as much as possible I suppose :)

It is? What are the pitfalls with bio-fuel on these cars (or any others really) then? And by bio-fuel do you mean ethanol?

eek, no v-power or ultimate!
Been using the crappy ole Mazda 626 recently as I'm on fumes in the Zed too. I drove back from Leicester on Sunday and limped to the Shell station to find they were out... The Tesco 99 RON stuff that zx-eyes talked about seems pretty good though. When I can't get VPower I use that and my car runs great on it - and it's a J Spec.

Which tyres?
Hmm - OK. Well, at the mo she's running 323 RWHP after having a chip, induction kit and exhaust fitted but I'm looking at turning up the boost to a bar as soon as I can get hold of a decent boost gauge. However, it's my daily driver and I do 20-odd miles each day to work and back so with the cost of fuel it doesn't get hammered much - just the odd quick blast as I hit a nice bit of clear road ;) Also, I told Tim at Opie exactly what was car was running and how it was driven before he recommended those oils and service intervals, so I'm sure this was taken into account. Going on what everyone's been saying, I might try some of the Motul stuff and change it at 6K, monitoring it until then to see if it starts to get a bit black. If it does, I'll change it sooner! Cheers guys

Which tyres?
Thanks for your help with this guys. One more thing though - I mentioned that AFAIK we're supposed to change the oil every 3K, but was told by Opie Oils that with the Motul they recommended I'd be OK with 6 to 8K and with the Silkolene 8 to 10K. Really?

Which tyres?
Hmm - they do look good, and not just for Falken either! I'd just need to have a word with my local garage to see if they would fit em for me... I've just had a word with Opie Oils too. They recommended some Silkolene Pro 5w40 stuff at £45-ish or some Motul stuff at about £27, along with one of their purolator filters. You guys reckon that's OK?

Which tyres?
Cheers Darrell - I have a look at this properly when I get home (time to go!). Yes, apparently I do have adjustable upper arms fitted, and at the rear it was a FRACTION out of the ideal range. Can't remember where it was I had it done right now, but it was a place recommeded by Zedworld...

sorry, another dump valve Q
Never heard of doing just one! It's a Zed... everything comes in twos ;) I've got aPexi ones one mine in the recirc position and they work great.

Which tyres?
10W60 and 0W40 - bit of a difference! But I have heard Mobil1 from a couple of people. It's also gotta be fully synthetic hasn't it? As for the Falken tyres - something like this? Are these any good or would the extra 40 - 50 quid a piece for Bridgstones or similar make a massive difference? As for the camber, I'm HOPING that it's sorted now. I took my car for four wheel alignment when I realised it was wearing the inside edges (70 quid plus VAT, dammit...) and they say it's all good now, apart from it being a minute or two out 'which won't make a difference' apparently.

my monday gets better and better..
Yep me too - I saw Nickelback supporting Bon Jovi at MK last year (or the year before?) and they were WAY better

Nice things come in boxes......more
It's in the raised 'get over the speed bumps' mode for shipping, maybe

Which tyres?
Well, after a few harrowing months of Zed ownership, it's nearly time to do a few bits of basic maintenance. I'm soon going to be needing some new tyres (mainly because whoever put on the wide wheels didn't sort the camber... grr...) and was wondering if there were any suggestions? I currently have Pirelli Rainsports which are as sticky as anything, but obviously wear quickly too. I've been looking through places like http://www.mytyres.co.uk and have no idea what to go for! I need 265 35 R18's rear and 235 fronts if that makes a difference. I was going to ask about oil, but I found a post where j1mmytt was whinging about someone asking another oil question... so I won't ;) Ta all!

Hesitating when de accelerating when cold
Great stuff thanks Leigh - I'll have a look. And yes, clean those throttle bodies. Just use brake cleaner and an old toothbrush and keep scrubbing till it runs clear. Just make sure you have plenty of rags underneath to catch all the stuff that comes out - you don't want it all over your belts!

...Am I running with increased boost?!
Had my car dyno'd the other weekend... and I'm running stock boost! Too right the stock gauges are inaccurate! Still, 323 RWHP on stock boost ain't bad I suppose ;)

Hesitating when de accelerating when cold
Two orange plugs under the plenum cover? Where abouts are these? Might be worth me checking too as I'm still struggling with the cutting out when pushing the clutch in at speed problem...

Whos thinking of Selling because of fuel prices?
Hear hear ChrisC... I'm seriously thinking of sodding off to Australia with my missus in the next few years. Even if the taxes don't work out much better, at least the fuel and property prices are half decent. They're complaining that their fuel has gone up to $1.40AUD at the mo... now divide that by 2.5 and see if they should be whinging... How much does it cost to ship a Zed...? ;)

Great stuff! I'll come find you. Do I ask for a Mr. Sharky? ;)

Oil around alternator area?!
So that'll be a 'no' on whether they're the same I suppose! Has no one got a spare HCU (better, Greg? ;) ) that's just sitting around as a paperweight then? ;)

looks like the zeds staying
Just what I was going to say. I read a tech article somewhere that said if they're stuck closed it'll pop your dipstick out (so to speak) and maybe smoke a little. Gotta be worth a shot as it's not an expensive fix.
-
What a difference.......
I thought it was a good idea to change 'em every 60K anyway? I'm gonna get mine done ASAP - a full replacement kit from the states was only about $80 I reckon

Anyone going to the Modified Nationals this w/e?
Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of, but hey, I'm not paying so I might as well go ;) I did expect it to be a bit chavvy though... my mate's going after just dropping 5 grand on his bloody ST... and it still can't touch my Zed! Still, maybe I should don a white tracksuit, burberry cap and loadsa fake bling for the weekend and fit in eh? heheh
