  1. No, good idea just in case. Jeff
  2. Over the past few days have had in excess of 4,500 emails all with failed Daemon delivery message, as below, the supposed failed email recipients all end with ru ( russian ) example below, just done a clean out of 1400 and an hour later another 1400!! the pain is it is my main Zedworld email addy that I have used for 14 years, I have blocked all of them so they go straight to the recycle bin but it still takes an age with there been so many. I suppose I could collect my emails at the server and delete without down load but still a pain, If I stop using the mail addy I fear it I will end up with thousands of mails in there, is it likely my email has just been random used, I know my pc is not sending these out and I am not bouncing them back either as that can sometimes varify the email addy, what to do? any idea`s. what I am trying to determine if the email is complete scam as it pretends to be a genuine fail to deliver notice or is it a real failure to delivery because a machine elsewhere is using my email to send out to the ru addys??? Merry Christmas. 3. I take it you either refitted the old one or fitted a used one? either way you need to check if it is leaking or not, are you loosing water? if not then its likely the low temperatures and previous wet interior is the problem, also at the moment the humidity is around 80% which will mist up a car windows very easily. Jeff TT
  4. The job is not as technical as you might think, dropping the sub frame a little to get the sump off is the biggest parts really, ACL bearings are as good as you need and available in the UK, even via ebay, depending on where you get them from anywhere between £60 and £120, it is worth a good look around to get the best price. With the sump off you looking at a couple of hours max to remove the rod caps and change the bearings, so a days work in total with the cross member drop and back up. So you will need: Bearings Sump end gaskets Gasket sealant ( high temp) Oil filter Oil Looking at £350 to £400 in labour + parts I will add though I am not actually quoting for the work just giving you an idea what it should cost. 8. Active customers who have at least one visit to us per year, usually for service and MOT. Agree too many zeds are been broken now for little or pointless reasons, we have been involved in recycling crashed and rotten zeds since 1999, however over the past 5 years and more so in recent years we have reduced this to a minimum for many reasons, one been the market for used parts is awash with items that have now become almost worthless and its a practice that will end up in the complete demise of the 300 zx eventually if it continues, there must be at least 15 individuals in the UK now actively buying up zeds with the sole purpose of breaking them, very sad times. Jeff TT
  9. Yes most we had at a Zedworld xmas bash was around 80, its on You tube if your search it. Jeff TT
  10. Yes I do, sorry Leeroy you had this issue, the boss can be a bit flakey sometimes always off in Portugal or something!! Pm me the number plate and will take a look now for you. Zedworld worker.
  11. No not a tease matey,( more than 1,000+ though) the trouble with the data from MOT and other sources is the details of many, many imports are wildley inaccurate and will not come up even in a corrective search. We do stacks of MOTs a year on imports and some of the details on the system are clearly wrong, we do try to get this updated where we can and if all MOT garages knew to do this a better picture would be available. The best one we have had was quite recent came up as a Datsun ! and we have had Nissan ZX turbo 2.0 litre, which of course is not a 300zx !! even once had one show up as a Nissan auto coupe (Cherry) and the Cherry was in brackets as if they were not too sure when entering it, we have also seen turbo and non turbo`s swapped around.... and 5 door ?? convertible is a common mistake when it really its a targa top! really could write a book, Mmmm.... Jeff TT
  12. Must add a bit in here, whilst the forum is at its best at helping with tech issues, sometimes the basis of this problem, cause and solution have been missed and even with the eventual issue cause been identified the point is still lost. So the symptoms was detonation then loss of power, the issue as it turned out was a leaking manual boost valve, the leak at this valve was allowing the actuator/ wastegat on that turbo to stay closed longer, this was causing over boost, and detonation would arise from this. The det sensor was doing its job, the engine, turbo`s, ecu, all were working but the leak was causing over boost, nothing directly to do with mixture issues or the chip/ ecu or timing, simply over boost. Hope that makes it make more sense what was going on, and is what I suggested earlier in the thread. Jeff TT
  13. Mmm...the active customer Zedworld data base does not tally with any of those figures, more than you would think are still around. Jeff TT
  14. Mmmm...not from the user name...intrigued now! Jeff
  15. Thanks guys!! Jeff
  16. Just to clarify the cambelt fittment, as is Always the case a Genuine Nissan Cambelt was used. A full ConZult set up was done that sorted some items that needed adjusting and the timing was set accordingly correct. I received a pm from Dan saying the engine was running very well as i expected, the current issue could be caused by either a pipe from a boost jet coming off or maybe an actuator causing over boost... Jeff TT
  17. Ok this problem can be difficult to track down, having said that I know from the experience we had with Tony`s zed and that of another customer both the afm and the cas unit can be the culprit. Some years ago I had this problem with a customers zed, his issue was quite specific though and basically regardless of speed or gear when ever the engine hit 4k rpm it was like an anchor had been thrown out the back end! no issue before then and the ConZult was great help as it showed the afm voltage dropping off at that point, the customer had spent money on plugs, fuel filter and pump etc plus other service items. So the afm was the culprit and was an easy find in the end, just had what I referred to as a dead spot in the output voltage at 4k? strange but that was that. With Tony`s it eventually turned out to be the cas unit, this was much harder to find as nothing stood out as a problem, all sensors were fine no output drop out strangely there were many red herrings too, when the fuel return feed was clamped off temp to maintain fuel pressure it was better, fuel pump issue? fuel pressure regulator issue? then lowering the boost made changes, it all got very confusing, the cas unit never seemed to be in the frame as it always showed perfect readings, even more so there was odd occasions when the problem would not be there or the rpm would raise. Finally the only way forward was to start over and went through the normal start point checks, timing fuel , boost leaks etc. and then I saw it, whilst ticking over on an indicated 15 deg as it should but when raising the revs quickly the timing actually retarded !! if revved slowly it advanced ! The cas unit was swapped out and problem solved! was a weird one and there was no external issue with the cas unit, the spindle was fine no play and smooth to turn, thats the trouble with electronics!! So my advice is get a timing light on it and see if you get the retardation when revving up, may be worth borrowing a good cas unit to try. The question of how can cas units go out of timing is a simple one, over time the cam belt will stretch. Jeff TT
  18. nothing. Some more bonnet access pics...
  19. When you pass the stops there is an small amount of resistance in the hinge, this also holds the bonnet, having said that I have come across some bonnet hinges that are very loose when in that position so best to place a cushion or similar on the windcreen in that case, but in general they will hold fine, but not in windy conditions! See pic below when doing rocker cover gaskets / plenum removal how much more room there is. Jeff
  20. Just had a thought, when working on zeds the bonnet angle can be a pain when working at the back of the engine, now for many, many years I have moved the bonnet back past the small little stops which leaves the bonnet leading away from the engine bay and gives a huge amount of extra access and light. What does surprise me is how many customers are amazed when they see them like that and so about time I made it public!! now lots of you may already know of course but hopefully helpful to those that do not. So lift the bonnet till it stops, unplug the water washer pipe, now rock the bonnet against the stops back and forward a few times and it will go past the stops towards the windscreen, the bonnet should now stay in place giving lots of access as you can see in the picture below. Jeff TT
  21. Anyone who has worked or tried to work down the back of the zed engine knows that the space between the bulkead and the engine is at a premium. Unfortunately there are a lot water pipes down there and when they need attention it cam be a royal pain but even the metal water pipes from the engine to the heater matrix can loose the corrosion battle. The pictures give a little indication what is involved to remove the steel pipes, with the exception of the missing skin of the back of my hand but hey that goes with the territory! Could not take a picture when my hands were down there but believe me it was tight to get the drivers side pipe fixings as they turn back into the engine, and of course getting them back in.... that`s another story! If you fancy having a go at this job move as much of the loom that you can and the battery cable to the starter motor, locking the bonnet right back is essential too, I use a foam lie down slab and end up liying down on the engine its works for me anyhow. Jeff TT
  22. Loose cas connection. Jeff TT
  23. There is never a good time to loose your car, but life is more important, still hurts though!! Oh and on a light note lets see how long before this.......................... (Joke) Take it easy bud Jeff TT
