Should I replace or reuse turbos gaskets
Reusing the gasket should be ok provided you return it to the same way around as previously fitted, given they are metal encapsulated inner they are very robust. Jeff TT

Manifold blowing???
If its passenger side, even if it is the manifold the engine does not need to come out, once the turbo is removed the manifold is full accessible. Here is a thread with pics I did on the passenger side manifold http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?140966-Manifold-turbo-gasket-failure&highlight=manifold+gasket Here is a thread I did with pics for doing the drivers side manifold. http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?168325-Manifold-gasket-drivers-side&highlight=manifold+gasket Jeff TT

Do you mean you had to remove the converter from the donor UK clocks? if so they were not true UK clocks and just had a face change. Jeff TT

headlight bulbs. ......
When ordering HID units just search for H3 Fittment with 6k colour, ebay is full of them ranging from £15 to £40 depending on the trader and all in the UK, removing the H3C bulb can tricky especially if the alignment is set wrong, there is a wire clip that needs releasing and then the pull drops out. strange one!?
We always fit the convertor on to the back of the speedo so no looms are cut, linking the cut in the pc be track will be effective, however I doubt the convertor is the issue as 1st and 2nd gear are mechanically operated and even if you had no speed they would work fine, more likley the new ballasts on the HIDs are causing a car wide disruption, try connecting just one HID unit and then the other, if the problem is only one sided it will point to which ballast is causing the issue. Ok you mean H3C fittment like these.... However if you have tried HID and that did not improve things then your projector lenses must be filthy on the back side, the problem this is two fold one is light blocking of course but the second is light scatter which is worse because it looses focus, also with light scatter the brighter bulbs / HID you go the worse it gets. The very best thing for you to do is remove the headlights ( not that bad ) dis-assemble them and clean the projector lens rear side and the glass in and out, do rub the reflector on the high beam though as it tends to go worse. Once all clean and reassembled, line up the projector beams by centering them in the chrome ring around them, and then refit your HID kit, I can tell you you will be amazed by the difference, it will be like having really good modern headlights. Do be sure to check the cables and connections, not unknown for bad earths to reduce the voltage on the main loom, often easier to fit a relay kit wired back to the battery with larger cables and use the original loom to just switch the relays. There is an easy way to check if the lenses need cleaning, look into them in the day time and if clean you will see a large upside down image of the bulb, if not and I guess you like hundreds more zed owner will be looking at a very milky cloudy projector lense. No other way to sort it really, I did a tech on this years ago but cannot find it at the moment. Jeff

Be careful fitting high wattage bulbs, the cables are not really big enough to carry the extra current of the higher wattage bulbs, this causes volt drop which in turn raises the current load, that causes the bulbs to burn hotter and failure of the bulb and cables can result. Having said that, the main beam inner lights tend to not be on for long so you should be ok, the above would apply more to the dip beam outer lights, to release the main bulbs you squeeze the two tags in under the holder and pull back, can get a picture if it helps. How is the weather / high winds where you are now?
Midlands a bit wet and breezy this morning, anxious night for those with big trees close by ( me ) and some nasty stuff along the South cost according to Sky News Jeff TT

How is the weather / high winds where you are now?
Still quiet in the South Birmingham / North Warwickshire area and no rain. Jeff TT

How is the weather / high winds where you are now?
Lets see if we can track the reported storm front coming, so in the South Birmingham area has gone very quiet after a blustery day, the saying calm before the storm springs to mind, so report in your area now and see if it is really coming or not..... hopefully not. Jeff TT

Thrust bearing seperation
Spring retainer is on the wrong way around and looks like it needs straightening slightly, the difference between the two is your original one is of spurious design more akin to a non turbo bearing, the new one is a twin turbo bearing of original design. Jeff TT

Dash lights not working again!
If you talking about the back lighting then they must feed off the side light fuse, assuming the side lights are working then check you have not turned the brightness down on the right hand pod without knowing when cleaning. Jeff TT

Aftermarket Chip Analysis & Comparison
The central 20 mapping is clearly not up to date but more essentially was designed for use in Japan where 100+ ron fuel is normal, also the mapping on that and similar Japanese spec eproms was designed around particular use in Japan and their road / traffic conditions and of a certain technology and customer expectations, the use of the word "generic" is a poor general term as the mapping was once done for a specific set of requirements. ( albeit outdated now) Other more UK based eprom mapping has been developed from other set ups like the US JWT and has been updated slightly over the years to better suit UK requirements this has become such a widely used and proven eprom now the term copy is more fitting in my view, of course any custom mapping to a particular vehicle is always considered the most effective was to go especially given today`s owners higher expectations.
