  1. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!
  2. Tell me about it, hate how things suddenly change after no issues at all with computers!!! Jeff Yes it does have a built in camera, the thing i,s it only has an issue when you start typing in anywhere, once the pop up box comes up about the usb it stops making the beeps, just noticed I now have Realtek USB card reader software showing as installed in my programmes, cannot say for sure but don`t remember that been there before the Adobe download......any connection?? might uninstall both. Oh update, just checked and the Realtek card reader prog is 3 years old but McAfee secuity scan came with the ADOBE download and is running?? McAfee removed but still the same! Adobe removed and still the same so that theory gone! Jeff
  3. laptop: ASUS PS: windows vista business Whilst typing e-mail or here get slow key beep sounds and a pop box suggesting this device can perform better (usb) ??? no usb stick in and if I type a long email or post I get blue screen of death and a message bugcode_usb_driver Goggle suggests the usb driver issue but all usb ports working fine, tried a reset to previous time and still the same. Tries microsoft fix it download, reported after problem fixed, but still the same. Only thing I can think of is last week updated ADOBE READER X as I could not open a pdf file, is that a possible conflict but device manager reports no issues, is it worth uninstalling adobe? Jeff TT
  4. Quick test, with ignition on but not running select reverse and then see if the reversing lights have come on, if not the fuse for the autobox has gone ( more common than you might think and not caused by the box itself) go to the fuse box in the drivers foot well, bottom row, 2nd from the right red 10 amp, shown on fuse cover as ASCD + A/T Control If the reverse lights are working you know there are is no power feed issues, you could have issues with the tps, the autobox ecu, speedo issues, speed sensor issues, gearbox rev sensor issue or even bad luck of a second bad gearbox although I would do more checks before you conclude that yet. One more thought, was the torque converter changed also? Here is the autobox self diagnostic procedure with fault codes http://www.zedworld.co.uk/wizzj.html#auto_box Jeff TT
  5. Ok this is an old vid now but always a good watch, pity its poor quality to today`s standard but you can almost taste the tension, and as a previous owner in the day of a SD1 3500se I can tell you the brakes were crap! you cannot doubt the police drivers commitment to delivering this donor organ to save another persons life though, that cop certainly earned his wages that day! Jeff TT
  6. Chanced across this video on youtube of Tony Pond attempt at a solid 100mph average around the Isle of Man TT course, bear in mind it was filmed in 1990 so a bit naff, but boy can this guy drive, we all have fun on the road where it permits but on what looks lime B road size and condition he has no fear, 150 mph down straights and 120 mph round the corners!! bumps and rises, dips and curves the guy seems so cool at the end like he had been for a paper down the shops, very Nigel Mansell esk with his down play, the amazing thing is he is driving a road car with just slicks on .... a Rover 800 Vitesse (skip the first minute blerb) http:// Jeff TT
  7. Agree with you Funky that your good friend Jimmer ( Powerzed) in Bristol is the man for park monkey no doubt, however Funky I do not agree we are in good era for z32 maintenance, and as you put it "cowboys" unfortunately does not really describe the problems that especially new owners can fall foul of. There are many good general garages out there that will be up front with you and say no they do not have enough experience of Z32 and pass on the job but there is an equal amount that will give the impression they can and will often charge you more than established dedicated places and if there are any complications they often then cannot sort them out fully, most of all and like many similar marques the Z32 requires passion from both the owner and who works on it, the past 10+ years has seen many (lots) of these passionless outfits who are happy to take you money without displaying an ounce of dedication, only greed for either the money or notoriety, they come and they go but the wake of damage and upset they cause has been fundamental in the 300zx been less popular than the other similar cars, be careful and go with long established places ( jimmer) and talk to the owner about exactly what real time experience in length of time they have on the z32 and in particular other owners cars not just there own. To park monkey, looking for advice on who to use your phrase someone with " a bit of experience " is too undefined, it could be taken you asking for one of the lesser establishments mentioned above, if you are good luck with that......... 8. Tamworth? just down the road from Coleshill! Jeff TT
  9. Thanks Gary, DOH! realised I have a swb at lunch time in at the moment so have done the measurement thing and they measure the same so they do fit either. Jeff TT
  10. Anyone know if the large plastic tailgate panel inside is the same between swb and lwb or not? Cheers Jeff TT
  11. Know this zed very well, previous owner spent a lot of love and cash on it so she could have it like new. Jeff TT
  12. Diff unit is quite unstressed on the zed and just draining and refilling with the regular gear oil will be fine, in fact you will most likely find what comes out quite clean as unlike engine oil it does not get subject to combustion gases etc. One tip, undo the fill plug before the drain, saves a whole lot of grief if you have trouble with the fill plug! as they can be particularly tight. Jeff TT
  13. Ok does not prove the coil pack or the ptu signal to it yet. Jeff TT
  14. Ok so have you confirmed the spark on that cylinder by the method above? Jeff TT
  15. Have you identified which cylinder it is though? thats the key to finding the issue. Jeff TT
  16. Despite you fitting the exhaust prior to the issue starting It doubt it has any connection. Misfires, hesitation, tick over issues ect. can and do occur randomly and in the main due to bad connections, To find the cylinder that is troubling you, is with the engine running unplug one coil pack at a time ( don`t worry you will not get a shock) and look out for which one makes no difference to the engine note whether it is connected or not. Once identified you can then check for spark by leaving a coil pack with spark plug resting on the engine with the outer metal body of the plug touching the engine and start the engine and check for a good spark. If a good spark then move on to the injector connection for that cylinder, it will very likely be green and require cleaning with WD40 or simliar and a small blade to clean it all up, if again when trying it the problem persists it could be a failed injector, so at the injector connection you need to take a resistance reading, with a multi meter, it should be around 14 Ohms if open circuit its a gonna and will need changing. ( search on here for injector swaps have done a few tech threads myself) If when checking the spark there was not one, try again but with another coil pack, if still the same check the connection on the ptu at the front left of the engine, usually the lower left hand connections can go green and cause issues, again clean with WD40 or similar and a small blade. If any of the stages above provide a failure then no point moving on until that particular issue is resolved or you will end up going around in circles, in fact if you do find that happening take as break and start all over again, that 5 minutes away will often be all it takes to find it. 17. Not everyone`s cup of tea but no denying at 10 years old this customised GT looks brand new. Presently on ebay for 42 big ones Jeff TT
  18. Mmm.....my thoughts too actually, oh well been a teen in the middle and late seventies was cool. Jeff TT
  19. Yes small, very small, taking the pics were hard my decent spec Olypus digit camera was on max close up and still took around 10 pics and chose the best one`s. Jeff TT
  20. Anyone ever suffered a torn calf muscle? I had an "incident" last week whilst pushing a car, was a bit stubborn up a little rise so gave a real heave with my left leg and felt like something tapped me on the back of the leg, I looked around expecting to see something, however then the pain alerted me to something much worse! jeez the pain was excruciating and quickly got off my feet, sitting for a moment I still could not work out what had hit the back of my leg? So that was me stuffed, ice pack and leg elevated to reduce any swelling, do not do doctors or hospital, daft I know but most things I just get on with and they get better eventually, but 5 days on and a box of painkillers its still not right, I can walk on it better now the first two days were hell. Have read on a few medical sites the exact feeling of a tap on the back of the leg is the calf muscle ripping (yuk!!!) same medical sites are suggesting anything between 2 and 6 weeks for full recovery!! What I cannot fathom is why it happened, I have been in the same scenario scores of time pushing cars vans all sorts never had this??? Jeff TT
  21. Ok nothing to new or radical here but I often see mentioned speedo dry joint issues talked about and thought whilst actually tackling the very same issue I would take a few pics to help anyone else doing the same. Not "a how to" by any means so the picture`s start with the cluster already removed and the speedo head separated and showing the back face of the pcb, as you can see the problem is not obvious to spot due to how small the joints are and pcb layout is. So out come my trusty geek glasses, now don`t laugh these things might look goofy but boy do they come in their own on jobs like this. Bought from ebay for around a fiver they have been used so many times to find problems on circuit boards that you would simply not find without they have paid for themselves many times over. So with the aid of the bionic specs I was soon able to distinquish the dry joint, a little wiggle on the chip leg confirmed it was loose. The space was a bit tight so I files down the tip on my soldering iron down to a needle like end and pre-loaded a dab of solder on it and then warmed the dry joint and second later a new flowed joint. Simple fix restored the speedo from been intermittent and if done yourself a no cost repair, well expect for the goofy glasses of course!! Jeff TT
  22. Personally oil type for me is 10x40 semi synthetic as general rule but the fuch one is quality oil too. Jeff TT
  23. Most ticking/ tappet noises can be attributed to the lifters, these can become noisy although they function perfectly, oil changes and or the use of additive can quieten them down, however sometimes the noise will persist, use of the correct grade of oil is important as is regular changes. You mention the very low tick over, this can also cause a noise of it`s own and that is vvc spring rattle, this will sound quite loud but will stop if the revs are picked up, try it and see, the low revs and stalling issue points to a set up issue with the base idle or a non functioning idle control valve, would be useful if you can get it on a ConZult diagnostic to check this and set it up, maybe a forum member close by with ConZult?
