  1. See what the boost leak shows first before spending any cash, you can temp make something up to block them for the test. Jeff
  2. The way to view the turbo`s as air pumps, they pump air into the system to a pressure above the normal air pressure outside of the system, however if there is a leak in the system the initial air been pumped can exit via the leak, as the turbo`s spin faster they will over come the amount of air been lost and then build boost within the system, however as the boost rises in the system the leak air bleed will also rise exponentially so the more boost the faster the leak, despite the turbo`s trying to pump more and more air pressure into the system there is a moment where nothing more can be gained and in your case that is 6psi. of course you could also have leaking recirc valves if still fitted, trouble is if they are leaking then a boost leak will not detect them leaking as they feed back into the front of the turbo. 3. Dielectric grease, plenty options on ebay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Permatex-Dielectric-Tune-Up-Grease-81150-0-33-oz-Each-/351009984359?pt=UK_Vehicle_Oils_Lubricants_Fluids&hash=item51b9d34f67 "Protects electrical connections and wiring from salt, dirt and corrosion. Extends the life of bulb sockets. Prevents voltage leakage around any electrical connection. Also prevents spark plugs from fusing to boots. Required for modern high energy ignition systems" Jeff
  4. Ok sounds like what you did was disconnect the pipes to the turbo actuators, this in theory means the waste-gates will not open and hence no control or limit on the amount of boost, however a leak or even faulty recirc valves will negate this, given the recent inter-cooler work a leak is most likely and a large one at that. 5. Ok done a good few targa drain tech threads but last week with a poorly zed showing lots of electrical issues and auto gearbox issues it all looked very connected and with the trusty camera on hand all was soon revealed. The auto box was not changing gear at all well, first to second was a huge shift at way too high revs, a previous check on the ConZult revealed a very high reading on the TPS ( throttle position sensor ) that could not be altered what ever adjustment was made to the tps, this would cause the gearbox to be receiving conflicting information, the car horn was also not working from the steering wheel but would intermittent start sounding when the car was unattended. So passenger side, very quickly found the targa drain was detached and had been allowing rainwater to flow all over the main connector blocks in that area, pulling the connectors apart revealed green and corroded pins. A very difficult area to work in and a sore neck is guaranteed the next day!! after cleaning the pins with WD40 and the air line blower I sorted the drain pipe so the same issue will not occur and a test showed we now had a good tps reading and a smooth auto box once more. more ........
  6. Yes the belt is too short, correct size is 4PK 925 4pk been the rib count and the 925 been the length in mm. maybe the one you have is a Z31 300zx fitment. Plenty good quality belts on ebay search for 4pk 925 rather than nissan 300zx ps belt. Jeff TT
  7. Ha ha, most likely get one of those bags of rocking horse poo at the same time eh? Jeff TT
  8. The dowels can be tight sometimes, make sure they are not burred up, also place a jack under the front pulley of the engine stops the engine rocking when your shoving on the gearbox, be careful with pulling up on the bolts though, only acceptable if the gearbox is nearly home, really needs two people. Jeff TT
  9. Yes a well looked after and loved zed, serviced and maintained regular too, the initial knee jerk reaction from the insurance co is write off and cat B which means no buy back, however owner has made some noises about it been rare slick manual etc, etc and they have upped the offer by another £600 and said they would consider changing to cat C as it could be fixed with used parts and of course cat C can be bought back. So just waiting for insurance co details to write up our view for the assessor see if we can get him a bit more cash fingers crossed! Jeff TT
  10. Yes spring loaded. Jeff TT
  11. Difficult to see how in the dry on a straight road and in traffic that things can go wrong but they do, sad to see another zed in a bad way, still not sure to the full extent yet underneath but the o/s rear wheel is all at the wrong angle and the gearbox seems locked, insurance company and customer still in discussion over value etc. will see what they say and update as we go, again may sound over the top but be careful guys and girls, zeds and similar cars can bite even the experience driver in the bum. Jeff TT
  12. First thing is check the master cylinder for fluid level could be a simple hydraulic issue. Jeff TT
  13. Real pic and mix zed, UK spec front, but no rear fog lights, but also no rear bumper side reflectors like UK spec, km speedo unlike UK spec but, even different to European spec?? described as a non import, made in Oz then? think it means Oz spec. Agree with Funky, will have no extra value in the UK but a nice looking example. a Jeff TT
  14. Hi Ziggy, since I spoke with you I have had another zed in with the same wiring fault, the fault blocks the reading from the throttle position sensor which means the autobox controller (and engine ecu) only see`s full open position even at tick over, the autobox ecu works on the basis your accelerating hard and so hold the lower gear too long. When checked on the diagnosis the tps shows a constant high reading that does not change even when the throttle sensor is adjusted, with no way off setting the base setting at closed throttle there is nothing that can be done until the issue with the wiring is first resolved. So moving on where your auto spark guy needs to look is the passenger side under the dash above and to the left of the ecu location ( passenger foot well) there is some connector blocks in that area, these can become corroded and wet from a leaking targa drain pipe that has failed, the corrosion is the root cause of the problem as it is shorting across circuits, rain or washing the car can make it worse, on the odd occasion it may even dry out and be ok Hope that helps Jeff TT
  15. Zcars Created by Troy Kennedy Martin, there were thirteen series of police drama Z Cars over 16 years, named after its Ford Zephyr patrol vehicles. A total of 799 episodes were made, of which 467 are missing believed wiped. As the constables, Colin Welland, Brian Blessed, James Ellis, Joseph Brady and Jeremy Kemp became household names, plus Stratford Johns as Det. Chief Inspector Barlow, and Frank Windsor as Det. Chief Supt. Watt. Clips show the first episode, Four of a Kind (02/01/1962) and A Place of Safety (24/06/1964), the series three episode repeated in 1992 as part of a BBC2 race issues season. Link to a an early episode, pre-chat mentions race attitudes not reflecting todays thought... http://www.tv-ark.org.uk/mivana/mediaplayer.php?id=f1e237b2caa931798636c020e520c139&media=zcars1964&type=mp4 The Sweeny of its time!!!!!!!!! 23. Don`t feel too bad they are made out of the most brittle plastic known to man! you should see how Nissan had to package them when new, I bet half of the cost of them is the packaging. Jeff TT
  24. Yes sure has, a nice chap who called us today with those little pesky issues, poor horn sound, interior light bulb and noisy roof fan ( aircon) Jeff TT
