  1. The problem is unique to UK zeds, I have no idea why but we have changed many UK targa`s for this very reason, it can effect both sides and either ends of the targa`s. We find it much easier and more effective to replace the whole targa preferably with an import one without the rusts issue, there is no difference with the actual metal ttop, the glass however has a slightly different black out area and the UK glass has an extra head cushion bar that can be pulled off the glass and reapplied to any replacement one. If you would prefer to keep a UK glass then splitting them apart is quite easy. Jeff TT
  2. Mike that looks good but cannot see many having the discipline to see it through, puts me in mind of an old adage I read some years ago “Time is free, but it’s priceless. You can’t own it, but you can use it. You can’t keep it, but you can spend it. Once you’ve lost it you can never get it back.” Consider that monitoring your fuel use is to maybe help save money you need to keep in mind that you can always earn more money, but you can never earn more time. From birth, the precious time each of us is allotted begins slipping away, whether you are a homeless alcoholic bum or the the Prime Minister you only have so much time... Jeff TT

  7. Check the lower arm ball joints lift the wheels off the gorund when doing this or the weight of the car will give a false check. Sounds similar to a zed we dealt with, no self centering of the steering wheel after turning and sometimes half way through the bend you had to back off the steering as it was turning in too much especially when coming off islands etc. The lower bush was so worn that the track was chaning when cornering and effecting both the level of steering input and the self centering was a real weird feeling, the other problem is having the tracking checked statically will not reveal the issue as the lower bush is not under corning load. 8. As your aware there are two sensors at the front of the engine one for engine ecu ( yellow two pin) and one for the water temp gauge ( single pin) The first one goes direct to the ecu witjh no interaction with the fuseboard etc., however I guess your refering to the dashboard gauge anyhow. The gauge can fluctuate down and up when there is s poor connection at the sensor by this I mean from fully warmed up ( half way on gauge ) to cold as your getting internittent high readings then its not a bad connection at the gauge. You could have a short to earth some where on the cable from the sensor to the gauge or an issue with the dashboard voltage regulator but this would cause the fuel gauge to rise up too when the temp gauge does ( have you noticed?) An air lock or a faulty stat could be the cause but the problem would be there all of the tiime. What you need to establish i it is a real or false reading, is the engine actually getting hot and maybe loosing water or is it a simple error reading caused by a wiring fault. Try disconnecting the sensor and running briefly around the block and see if the gauge moves at all (it should not) if it does it proves its a wiring fault and a quick rewire will sort it ( from sensor to the back of the guage) Bit of a ballache tracing intermittent faults but you should eventually get there. 9. Yes no problem, when an individial sells "for profit" on a "regular or time arranged " basis selling safety related parts may fall in to the area where product liability responsibilty can or may apply. In easy terms if you sell a part say a used brake caliper or master cylinder or wheel / tyre or even a supension arm that could if after been fitted by the purchaser failed due to been a faulty or inadaquate part and the failure caused harm or injury to the buyer or a third party, the seller could may be held responsible, this is what product liability caters for. New parts have been tested by the manufacturer and deemed safe so any responsibility passes to them, used parts is the sellers responsibility. If you avoid selling safetly related part though you will be fine, in fact to get singular used parts cover would be difficult for a private individial anyway so just tread careful and you will be fine. Jeff TT
  10. Remember to allow a percentage for warranty and enough to cover the cost of the product liability insurance you would be advised to take out if you are making any profit on the parts. Jeff TT
  11. Thanks guys, my daughter has now received another second e-mail ( see below) What an idiot the ad is on Gumtree yet he keeps banging on about E-bay !! Probably best to NOT click the link at the bottom though may be a hidden nasty! Jeff TT Hello, I have a contract with eBay so this deal must go through them. I'm very busy with my job and I'm left out of the country so I can't meet in person with you so this is the reason why I chose to sell my car over the internet. According to eBay you have 5 days from the time you receive the car to inspect it and decide if you want to keep it or not. Here is how it will work: 1. First of all I will need the following details from you: - Full Name - Full Shipping Address 2. After I will receive the details from you, I will forward them to eBay. 3. After they will process your info, they will send us both invoices. The invoice will send you the details on how to make a refundable payment. 4. eBay will contact me and I will ship the car to you. After you receive the car you will have 5 days to test, verify and do whatever you need to the car. If you will buy, then I will receive the payment details from eBay so that I can pick up the money. 5. If you will decide that you will not buy the car, eBay will refund the money and I will have the shipping company come pick up my car. If you wish to make the transaction, please send me the necessary info so that we can proceed. I look forward to hear from you. I hope you are satisfied with my way of doing business. If you are going to accept my terms let me know so we should not waste our time. Thank you for your time and have a nice day. Paul P.S. On the link below you have some pictures of me and my wife before death and also a copy of my passport, insurance card and my Police Id card. http://en.fotoalbum.eu/lowle /a597891

  13. Closed throttle switch shows off on the first two sets of dials but on ( as its should be ) on the last one. The second set of dials show a high ignition timing of 26 deg at 70C this should be 15deg the most likely cause of this is a faulty hard idle switch or even a bad connection on the same, this is the plug that is directly connected into the tps. A/f base appears low ( rich ) this could be because the ecu has been chipped though. AAC at 70C is high but lowers as the temp has risen a couple of deg so if you could attain 80C it may well drop further, chances is the thermostat is jammed open or the viscous fan is locked and spinning faster than it needs to and overcooling, try holding the fan blade ( wear gloves) see if the temp rises to 80C see what the AAC is doing then, if after letting the fan goes the blade spins very fast the viscous is the issue if it just idles but the temp drops it will be the thermostat ( most likely) Jeff TT
  14. Not common at all, have only seen it once and heard of one other, possibly though it may become a more common failure as the plastic changes state with age, also the increased use of none Nissan matrix`s, as they do not come with new valves like the genuine one does. Oh and here is the access to the heater matrix ( drivers side ) with the dashboard not removed, just the ducts and ecu and plate removed. Jeff TT
  15. A new owner wanted a check over and depite a nice zed with a few choice parts it did throw up one odd fault, as shown in the pictures below the front anti roll bar bracket had fractured and released the bar fixings completely where it attached to the chassis rail on the drivers side. Not really a heart stopping moment but could make cornering slightly unpredictable, with more body roll than expected. The bar was removed and replaced as it seems to be bent out of shape at that end which points at the bracket having been broken for some time, maybe even the previous owner did not realise, DIY inspection is a real problem with these cars due to poor access without a ramp so getting a good look under at least once a year should be part of your service maintenance. Jeff TT
  16. Sure plenty of you have read about leaking heater matrix and some of course had it happen on your own zeds, but understanding what it looks like in place and how it get you carpet wet is not always clear, so when I changed one last week thought I would take a picture to show it clearly, and this one is a bad one. 17. Could try these guys Toronto Z1 Auto Service (416) 439-5110 Monday - Saturday, 10am - 7 pm Jeff TT
  18. The wipers and pod display gets its power from the same place in the fuse box that you have checked, when the key is accessory position a relay on the rear of the fusebox energises and a line of fuses power up. Water in there can cause problems however even when dry the relay itself can fail ( burnt contacts) see pic below. The 106 deg is very worring and needs urgent attention, if that is in fact the actual temperature do not drive the car or engine damage will be a real possibility, one of the most common thing that kills zed engines is overheat!! Some sort of poor circulation issue, blocked rad, low water level, air lock, thermostat, could be a non standard water pump with less flow, or simply a failed viscous fan unit not spinning the blade quick enough. Jeff TT
  19. Groover is correct that the white plastic base goes over the column however the indicator switch is mounted on to that with two phillip screws, so all you need to remove is the black surround. Jeff TT
