  1. PMSL  Just brilliant - albeit a little disturbing now  There was a boy in my class - Michael Whilby his name was - who looked just like that thing. The piss we used to rip out of him when that first aired :nono: Richard :p
  2. PMSL  Seriously that just about sums us up............. ;) And the club doesn't actually have a twisted sense of humour, just a whole bunch of twisted members...... :D Hello and welcome by the way :hyper: Richard
  3. That is so right - politics now is just like a "Pop Idol" contest whereby the "contestants" are judged on their appearance and crowd pleasing ability; instead of principles (whether right or wrong, at least they should have the integrity to stand by something they believe in  ). Richard
  4. I agree about Heath - but I was only 3 so I wouldn't have cared less at the time:p And Maggie did try to (conveniently ;) ) forget that by opposing European legislation throughout her time as PM :nono: As for the Railways - I did pose it as a question because it was so long ago now, that I thought it may have been one of John Major's ideas that his government didn't get to do, so was later implemented by New Labour upon ascension to office.....(a bit like the Dome :nelson: :nono: ). I think a lot of our opinions of that time depend on where we were, both in our lives and locations. I entered my teens just after the Falklands and had just started showing interest in current affairs. Then I started work in 1986 (at 16), right at the heart of the whole "Yuppie" explosion. I changed my mind about A levels and university, took a chance with my first job and made the most of the opportunity, hence I have a positive view from back then. However I do also realise that others may not...... .......Plus I've been brought up as a filthy capitalist, share buying Tory ;) My wife thinks my political views are [only] slightly to the right of Atilla the Hun :D Richard
  5. I thought that as well - I looked at a Cerbera last year and considering it is supposed to be a bit more of a GT car than previous TVRs the fit and finish left a lot to be desired....... Richard ;)
  6. What makes life interesting is that we all have different views........ .........and so far no-one has voiced the case for the Tories, so it may as well be me ;) Sure, the first few years of Maggie's tenure at No 10 did produce such casualties but they were necessary IMO to stop wasting public money on loss making industries that were making Britain the Lame Duck of the world. Let's not forget all these once great industries (including the railways) were built with PRIVATE money from wealthy magnates (the Richard Bransons of the 18th/19th centuries) and then grabbed by a Labour government and nationalized. Also was it not this government who went ahead with privatizing the rail networks.....? Maggie encouraged home ownership and made it possible for more people to own their own houses, crushed union power that crippled the country and turned the economy round to what it is today - don't forget Gordon Brown was fortunate to inherit the strong economy from the last government and, by and large, has continued with similar monetary policy to keep it that way. Maggie was (as Blair) elected 3 times in a row and whilst her majorities may not have been as high as Blair's second win, more of the electorate turned out to vote for her. It was throughout the 1980s (after her second victory) where standards here vastly improved, where the working classes began to see their lives change for the better and where the foundations for everything people take for granted (like the cars, holidays etc Billy mentions above) were lain. I think we need another Maggie Thatcher today; to brutalize criminals, stand up to tin-pot despots in banana republic countries, stop further immigration and re-gain all sovereignty this government has handed over to Europe. Just my humble opinion, of course :D Richard
  7. Amen brother  No-one f#cked with us back then. I can't believe it's 25 years since we taught the Argies not to invade British soil...... Richard ;)
  8. NSX or BMW 850csi would be my choice. I love the TVR for the sheer sound and awesome 0-100 times (way way faster than the others :p ) but they keep breaking down ;) Richard
  9. Sure is........ ........the ZX roof is incorrectly referred to as "targa top" Richard ;)
  10. Me too......... After seeing the photo shop, the black appearance is similar to the mighty Lister Storm  , however the fronts don't look quite right. I think silver with a polished lip ;) Richard
  11. I've gone with Pierce Brosnan  I was always a Sean Connery fan, but somehow for me, the Roger Moore films were better. Live and Let Die is still one of my faves. Pierce Brosnan seems to have combined the two greats and brought Bond back up to date. I was very impressed with Casino Royal though and think Daniel Craig performed the role well. It will be interesting how he develops it. Richard :smw:
  12. For £250 go for it! I've bought all of my plates direct from DVLA for much less than unscrupulous dealers charge. Richard :D
  13. If your current MP is a Labour MP that is.......... ........if your current MP is not a Labour MP then voting for him/her will still contribute to ridding us of this useless government.......;)
  14. Wrong kind of birds........... :( So for the rest of you who were disappointed log onto: kindgirls.com (put in the www. bit before it, obviously ;) ) Richard :D
  15. Love it! I think it's funny how some people have a preconceived view of you based on your appearance alone; just because you (and me also) are a young(ish ;) ) male with short or shaved hair! It has surprised many such people when I reply as I also hate football and am quite well spoken (normally ;) ) - not what they expect at all :D Richard :smw:
  16. I thought this too. Churches are usually self funding as Billy says. Personally I have no objection to a mosque being built; people have the right to worship where their faith is recognized and many white UK citizens have converted to Islam over the years. (FYI I am not a Christian, Moslem or a follower of any other other structured faith, but that is my business). However I would object if any tax payer's money was used to finance it's construction. But, and I know this is a bit of a double standard, I would not object if a small amount of public funds was occasionally diverted to the upkeep of a church/cathedral of significant historic/national interest (EG York Minster). Afterall, Christianity is the faith upon which the nation has been built and these magnificient structures which have stood for hundreds of years are part of our heritage. They should be preserved for future generations to enjoy no matter what the cost. Richard :smw:
  17. Exactly what he said....... .........If you're concerned about your ZX's fuel consumption then a VR6 is not really going to help you much either. On paper some of the bigger engined BMWs appear pretty efficient for a 3 litre (eg the E36 M3 :x: ) but I don't know how much they really drink. Best keep your ZX and look at a VW turbo diesel - you can buy an ex-fleet Passat for not much wedge - less than a Golf TDi anyway ;). I had to go up to Darlington last year to retrieve a Passat from a salesman I sacked. It was a 55 plate 1.9TDi (130ps) Highline. I filled it with Diesel at Scotch Corner and drove all the way home (South Bucks) at 90-100mph and it didn't even use 1/4 of the tank........damn thing was returning around 50mpg+ Richard :D
  18. That's a very tidy looking ZX  Did it belong to anyone on here before you? Richard :smw:
  19. The Z Centre is your best bet. They are not too hard to fit - it should take you around an hour and a half. Richard :smw:
  20. I have used these guys 4 times now and I can vouch for their excellent service and top quality product. Richard :smw:
  21. I believe this is so as well. The last shake-up was for cars registered after March 2001. That is why the 300zx is still £175 but my 2002 Rav-4 2.0 NRG costs £190 to tax. After that date it is all down to emissions - the official figure for my Rav is 211g of CO2; enough to take it to the second highest level. Next is 225g IIRC which will cost £210 p/a at present. Richard :headvswal
  22. Likewise mate! :D ;)
  23. As I said in my earlier post, that link refers to character size, not plate size ;) Originally Posted by sandhurstautoprint ... IMPORTED VEHICLES Certain imported vehicles may be permitted to display number plates with smaller characters if:
  24. http://www.sandhurstautoprint.co.uk/legislation.html#DVLA%20Legislation According to the link posted by Coopers, all sizes refer to the characters and not the actual plate size. After all, the law was changed so that roadside cameras can read a number plate - so if you have a personalized reg with fewer characters, surely the extra couple of inches of blank number plate either side can be dispensed with? Richard
  25. I go mine from MJP and IIRC it cost around £280 plus VAT - well it was a fair bit under £300........ Richard :smw:
