Auto gear knob removal question....
Hi all, I have just won a nice leather auto shifter from a later ZX on Ebay (thanks AndyZ - it's in really good condition too  ). Question is, how do I get the old one out and re-fit the new one (and how does the centre console trim come off)? Also the new one is minus the big release button; is it easy to remove it from my existing shifter and locate it in the leather one? Thanks in advance! Richard :)

turboing a na engine??? help
I would not bother doing that myself...... ........Compression ratio of the N/A engine would be too high for the turbos, plus what about oil and water feeds? I'd say it would be easier getting another turbo engine and bolting it all together..... Richard

2002 Merc C-class 320 estate - any good?
PaulC would be able to answer that one mate! Personally I think that a 2002 Merc will be free of any major issues, quality or otherwise. I have a 1999 SLK as a daily driver; it's a solid and fine quality car and I'm pleased with it - I'm thinking of a new shape one next..... The 320 diesel may be a better option than the petrol though - my MD had a new E-class 320d and that was a superb engine (for a diesel). Richard :)

Should I cancel Ferrybridge?????
I'm not going to either so I don't really care...... But Sarah's opinion is both valid and fair - keep it on! There you have it - a totally unbiased opinion  Richard :)

What coolant?
Really? I didn't know that :smash: I thought they did 2 variants, one red and one green. I cannot remember which one is which, or which one Dan Perkins recommended but I no longer have it in mine anyway  Richard :)

what head light bulbs
What he said..... .....you cannot get better than HIDs; especially as a decent pair of bulbs will cost you around £40 and last 5 minutes :wack: Richard :)

What coolant?
Cheapo unbranded oils, brake fluid, antifreeze etc may be all well and good on an old Metro but on a high performance car like the ZX I'd not recommend their use. Always use premium grade lubricants and fluids. It is vital to keep the cooling system on a ZX operating at optimum efficiency - we all know how much heat is generated under the bonnet! Crash and Claim
Same here. I've always told them as well but they didn't charge extra. In most cases aftermarket alloys are cheaper to replace than OEM items anyway...... Richard :)

'Babe on board' stickers
That's what I thought as well......... .......I believe you are meant to remove the sticker when there is no child on board. Thing is, most cars I see with these are people carriers driven by witless bints on the school run. The only time you actually see it is when the dopey mothers sail straight across a roundabout in front of you, because they didn't see you as they were too busy talking on their mobile and looking over their shoulder telling their badly behaved offspring to shut up  As for making other drivers take note and drive more courteously; I do drive with respect for other road users, hence it should not make any difference to me if the car in front has a child on board - ie I would always extend others the same courtesy regardless. The safety of a child in a car (or any other passenger for that matter) is the sole responsibility of the driver of that car IMO.......so to all those mothers mentioned above; get off the phone, concentrate on driving and don't expect other drivers to make allowances for your bad driving just because your children are in the car - their safety is in your hands and no-one elses! Richard :)

M40 Today!
I got caught up leaving Warkick Castle yesterday afternoon..... .....joined at J15 around 3.15, got down the sliproad and spent 45 minutes until being herded off by PC Plod at J14. The policeman told me that if I followed all the other cars down to J12 all would be ok eventually...... I didn't though - I saw the volume of cars all stationary so I went round the roundabout and back onto the M40 north to J15 again, headed along the A429 towards Stow as far as the A422; then A422 to Banbury. That way was clear as a bell, so I re-joined the M40 at J11. When I did, there was not another car in sight so al that traffic hoping to get to J12 like the policeman said must have still been queueing.... (and I forgot to take my map or sat nav with me :wack: ).... I actually got back home (left at the Handy Cross exit) in little over an hour after leaving the original traffic jam....result! I did tell the policeman that it may be a good idea to have placed "road closed" signs at the slip road on J15 though, to stop more cars joining from Warwick or the A46. He said "yeah mate - they didn't think of that!" "They??" I replied..."Don't you mean YOU!! " Richard

This should be a good buy
JUst an observation...... .....but wouldn't a proper K reg car have the later interior trim - you know the alcantara etc - not the light grey tweed :wack: Richard
-
Which Interior trim did your Zed come with?
Mine's a series 1 UK spec.... .....with leather and grey tweed. but the grey tweed seems much nicer and darker than that of the j-spec cars; nowhere near as nasty imo..... Richard

A good blast in the ZX.....
That's a coincidence - I did think of that....... .....on the way home :wack: (it was a last minute decision to go there though....) Next time I'm down that way I'll give you a call! Richard :)

A good blast in the ZX.....
I took the 300zx for a day trip to Bath yesterday..... .......I hadn't really used it much in the last few weeks and I had forgotten just how much I love the car. It's a 100 mile trip each way and despite the 30 degree heat, the ZX was running perfectly; the turbos were boosting well with no performance issues - who says Zs are unreliable  I burned a few pounds worth of V-power but it was worth every bit; plus an empty M4 encouraged me to press the fun pedal a bit too hard if you know what I mean....... Still that's why I have the car  Apart from a superb drive, Julia and I had a good day; walking along the river, lunch in the Pump Room and then a wander around Dyrham Park followed by afternoon tea..... Richard

Zed on a postcard
Your Astra looks great in the "after" picture once it was colour coded etc.... I have that same fondness for the mid-80s - I was a teenager at the time and loved cars like the Manta, Astra GTE, BMW 635, Porsche 928, Jag XJs etc etc  I hated the Fords though - I always thought the XR2/XR3i and Rusty Turbo were :xxx: s cars. I kind of liked the Sierra Cosworth but would not have bought one out of principle :wack: Richard :)

Dark blue - High Wycombe
As above really...... ......it was parked in the front of a property on the Hughenden Road. I passed by twice on Sunday 5th. The car has a nice set of aftermarket wheels - 6 spokes IIRC........ Richard :)
