First drive in 4 weeks.....
LOL - thing it, I could actually do that mate!!

Well done to this gent !!.......
He stuck to his principles and proved his case; so good on him - and I daresay I'd do the same if it happened to me...... ......it's so easy to shut up and take the fine now; especially as most NIPs do not actually have a section to deny you were speeding in the first place!! I have not personally had one; but I see the NIPs addressed to my company in respect of works vehicles - and they all just have boxes for naming the drivers or accepting the fixed penalty - there's nowhere for you to say, "actually no, I was driving within the speed limit, so I am not admitting guilt!!" First drive in 4 weeks.....
That's why I keep the ZX taxed and insured for the whole year...... I cannot resist having it sitting in the garage but not being able to drive it for 6 months!!

First drive in 4 weeks.....
I haven't used my Z since I got back from Cornwall in early January; I cleaned it and put it back in the garage where it has sat for the last 4 weeks..... ....So as it was nice and sunny today, I decided to take the Z out early this morning for the Sainsbury's run. But I didn't just stop there; I then drove from Beaconsfield to High Wycombe to buy the Halfords vouchers for the F1 comp prizes - and as I realised just how much I had missed driving the Z, I headed further afield for the sheer hell of it. And by the time I got home, almost 100 miles had passed under the wheels since I had left earlier!! Gotta love the 300zx...... It's not the first time I have done that either - LOL - and I hope the weather is fine tomorrow; as I feel a day out in the Z to The Cotswolds is beckoning.... Richard:cool3:

Well done to this gent !!.......
Heh heh - I'd do the same matey. On both counts!!! You know, the annoying thing about my experience of people flashing me when I overtake them, is that when I am driving Julia's Rav-4, no-one gives a shit..... I only get flashed when I'm in the ZX or the Merc??? Hey ho.......:confused1:
-
Well done to this gent !!.......
No you wouldn't - as I'd just overtake you mate....:winkiss: What does piss me off though is when I have to drive a long way on single carriageway roads (not just a few miles - as whether you do 40 or 60 is makes little difference) and, when I safely overtake, the b@stard flashes/hoots etc etc.... If they want to go 40 and I 60, so what? Best be happy that I have passed and gone on my merry way!! And getting back to the learner situation - I agree with you Dave. But if the learner is not up to doing more than 15mph, perhaps it's better to wait until they are more comfortable before unleashing them on a busy area in rush hour!! In the words of Mr Spock (and I'm not a nerdy Trekkie BTW), the needs of the majority outweigh the needs of the few - or the one in this case; who should look in their rear view mirror to see the immense trail of cars in their wake..... Richard:tongue:

Well done to this gent !!.......
What ever I said in my previous post, I would still fight it if I knew I was innocent. It's the principle after all..... Although why he ended up out of pocket is another question; unless things have changed in recent years, the AA and RAC both used to offer free legal representation for their members in most motoring offence cases (drink driving may be excluded - for good reason). Not to mention many house insurance policies offer some kind of legal assistance - again motoring cases might be questionable - but I'd always explore these avenues before spunking my own cash with little chance of recovery.... Yup, I know; as is any speed limit - and I think my comments added reasonable qualification to my statement Dave.....!! .....And I always acknowledge there are many circumstances as to why it's necessary to drive under the speed limit - weather, traffic conditions etc etc. But in general, in normal, safe conditions 18mph is too slow. Thing is, there are many traffic hold ups nowadays - and if we're honest it's unlikely to get better!! But in my own experience, there are those drivers who exacerbate congestion; by driving too slowly when the prevailing conditions are good; by not moving off quickly enough at green traffic ligts or roundabouts; or as Mr Bolt says, crawling along at 30/40 on [and I state here - good, straight, clear and safe] national speed limit roads. Hell if the world did 40 everywhere it would stop!!! So, selfish as it may seem, if someone is not a safe, confident and proficient driver - or if someone has a thing about saving fuel/the environment etc; hence cannot drive in accordance with the prevailing conditions and surrounding traffic flow - I'm sorry, they should get the bus!!! And as for those driving instructors who take learner drivers through industrial estates at 5pm.... with their charge pootling along for ages at 15mph in a 40mph zone whilst the whole of Aylesbury is trying to get home from work - what are you thinking!!!! I fully appreciate we were all learners once, but really, there is a time and a place? And whilst I always extend space and courtesy to learner drivers - is it too much to ask the instructor to exercise a little common sense when taking lessons at rush hour? LOL; I'm not some mad idiot suffering from road rage - far from it - it's just that I believe the traffic could flow much more freely if one or two people could pull their head from their arse; concentrate on their driving; looked out for the [majority of] other road users and did not obstruct the natural movement of vehicles on our already congested roads!!! Well done to this gent !!.......
That's kinda what I was thinking...... ......and dare I say it for fear of being unpopular - but does anyone else think that 18mph sounds far too slow to be travelling at? Sure, he may have been in the process of pulling away or decellerating for a junction/hazard/other reason - but if he was just pootling along at 18mph, then in my book he could well have been nicked for causing an obstruction!!! If it's safe to be doing 30 in a 30 zone, then do 30 FFS and get out of everyone else's way.....:winkiss: Richard:whistling:

Starting a zed after being sat in the snow
How long has the car been sitting for Lee..... ....A couple of weeks, a month or longer...? The longest I have left mine for without starting is 4 weeks - although it is garaged all the time. I just start it as normal and drive off TBH (after a couple of seconds idling whilst I close the garage door LOL) - if you have good oil in the sump it will circulate quickly enough and any slight rattles where all the oil in the top end has drained back into the bottom should vanish in a second or two!! Richard:cool3:

Update!
Wow - almost there Daz..... I like it mate; keep the pics coming!! Richard:cool3:

Not sure what to do with my 1990 300ZX?
Sounds good Ian - please do get some pics pf the car up on here if you can; we'll give our words of (hopefully) encouragement and agree it is worth the effort to get back on the road! If the body is in sound condition and the engine does not need too much work, then do it. This place is the font of knowledge for all things 300zx related (and often other stuff too - LOL) so you've certainly come to the right place. Pop it on a classic insurance policy (I assume you have another vehicle to use daily) and enjoy it!! Richard:cool3:

Not sure what to do with my 1990 300ZX?
Hi and welcome to the club Ian. Like Stu says, there are a couple of members local to you who can come and give you a bit of assistance - and essential advice on what to do with your car once they have seen it. As above, the PM facility is for subbed members only..... ....I hope the car is worth saving though mate; it's always good to see another one saved - good luck Ian, Richard:cool3:

car tax
Exactly...! I know there is still some small print that says the registered keeper "can be" fined for non-display of the disc, I doubt they bother now TBH. Roadside recognition cameras and PC Plod can see at an instant that a car is taxed and legal so the actual disc is pretty obsolete nowadays. You've paid up - and have your reference number and payment receipt so don't worry about the actual disc not being on the car. Hell my company runs a fleet of 20 vehicles and whilst we always tax online - and post the disc out to the drivers living in far flung corners of the country - a lot of them "lose" the disc before putting it in their car/van and no-one has been pulled for not showing the disc. Some of the guys drive 50k miles a year so there would have been ample opportunity to be seen with an expired disc; LOL!! Anyway you still have a 5 day period of grace - and that applies to paying for the RFL too as it is back-dated to the start of the month anyway.... Richard:cool3:

I knew they were quick, but wow...
I know - the later model V10 RS6 is quick enough - but one (supposedly) modded to 700bhp would be just awesome!! Whilst we all appreciate that a powerful 'bike is fast at the lower speed ranges, once wound up to the higher speeds a super car can be every bit as quick!! And I know what I would rather be travelling in at 186mph - and it sure as hell would not be on the 'bike!!! Richard:cool3:
