Dead Zed :'(
...Oh, and if it is truly dead - and funds are tight at the moment - my advice would be to take a punt on another 2nd hand auto 'box. In the long term, that's just good money after bad; but everything is a gamble with 2nd hand parts (including a manual conversion). So I'd advocate going with the least expensive initial outlay right now; and get hold of another auto 'box, that was last known to have been working well. It might last you 500 miles or 5,000 miles (or more); who knows. But short term, at least you'd be mobile once more. Richard:clover:

Dead Zed :'(
Sorry to hear that Ali.... But before you condemn the 'box, do as has been suggested and re-fill it with oil. And to continue the questions, you say the dipstick was dry when you checked, before you filled, up, before you left home? How much ATF did you put it? And did you check the level with the engine running and the car in D (as you're supposed to)? These 'boxes take something like 8 litres (including the torque converter); so if it was low with the engine off, it would certainly need more ATF than you thought, had you checked it with the engine running......

thoughts on underside?... (photos)
Yup - agreed! I'd get on that sooner rather than later.... But otherwise, it's as one might expect for a 20-odd year old car. It looks like all that's needed is a clean up, a little surface rust removal and some fresh underseal painted on. Best do it (or get it done) whilst it's summer; and it's warm and dry. You don't want to do it in winter as you'll just seal in any moisture:wink:

mot pass - eventually
Interesting Lee.....! ...I'd have thought they would only be adding newer cars to the database; not one which went out of production for the UK market 22 years ago; and was sold in such small numbers back in the day!

What did you do to your zed today?
Good call Si - I am still happy with mine.... ....And that's pretty much where mine are! I didn't want to ruin the GT-car ride quality - yet at the same time maintain decent handling. And the Meister Rs work very well on both counts. I didn't go too mad in dropping the ride height either - it's just enough to leave a subtle gap between arches and wheels:bow:

2016 Annual Club Meet and AGM - Coventry Transport Museum Sunday 17th July
Thanks for this Joel..... .....And yes! I believe we have to have dedicated marshals as part of the museum's T&Cs - Lexx, Harby and JaiKai (IIRC) did exactly this at the 2014 Coventry show. I also think we had a plan back then, where the cars were arranged in crescent formats starting in a sweep from the side of the Museum entrance. Then again it might have been how the guys marshalled us in on the day...

new bodykit idea?
Looks like Kuato from Total Recall....

mot pass - eventually
That's good news Craig.... I've never had an issue with the HID upgrade either by the way. I've had both my Zeds tested at the same garage for 10 years (apart from the year my red Zed was done by JeffTT's man after Jeff replaced the rear brake lines) and no-one has ever mentioned the HIDs....

3rd Japfest date, Sept 11, competing with JAE
Without doing JAE down any more, it does seem that the organisers have lost their way - and the competition is circling above ready to swoop....

Whatever happened to COTM this year...?
Indeed - but also, despite Dave's best efforts, it seems that the general interest varied from month to month. In order to make the competition work, we need members to participate each time. And I don't mean that as a criticism, by the way! We all want to do our best for the club and its members; and continue to maintain our members' interests. Which brings me conveniently onto the subject of our AGM next weekend.... So if anyone has any ideas - or would like to offer suggestions - as to how we can continue to do the above, we'd like to hear from you! Richard:cool:

My new daily driver
Good call Gray.......:bow: ......And one which has helped throw my own next car choice into limbo... I had pretty much set my heart on that new SLC43amg.... But your post has re-awakened my desire for a v8, so I started looking at the at last of the SLK 55amg models. It's outgoing v8 vs new model v6 twin turbo...... :crying: Hell, I might make up my mind before Christmas.... amg55 7.7.16.pdf amg55_2 7.7.16.pdf

Speedo out by 10kph?
I might be speculating, but, based on the ZX being RWD, I'd say it's just the rear wheel/tyre sizes that would make a difference. That; and whether the km/h to MPH conversion (if done) was done properly. I have a UK spec car running 265/35/18 tyres on the rear. When comparing my speedo to the GPS, at speeds up to 90mph (not on the public roads - before anyone jumps on that), both read pretty much the same. Thereafter, at some speeds the speedo reads more, at others, they are even; but the difference is no more than 3 mph. I'd also say GPS is more accurate; as surely a laptop plugged into the car would only pick up its reading from the car's own speed sensor anyway?

What did you do to your zed today?
And mine...... .....Whilst I didn't have the FG replica fitted to my blue Zed (PhilP had it done before I bought the car from him), I did get the Zed Centre one fitted to my old red Zed. The body shop delighted in telling me what a b*tch it was to fit. And, whilst they eventually got it fitted, it also sat the same as Gaz's...
