  1. It's certainly no coincidence then, that this happened after fitting the uprated 'cap! I should have known better as everything was in balance before....
  2. LOL....! I was running the AC Tony - but it's definitely coolant mate! The smell of antifreeze was a giveaway..... And the radiator was empty:wink:
  3. Interesting..... Mine were previously quite hard (ooer missus) with the relatively new OEM cap. When I got home after Coventry, all the while with the new Z1 cap in place, I noticed the hoses were not so hard. Despite the high ambient temperatures and the car having been driven at high speed for almost 100 miles!
  4. You're right mate, there is indeed - but I can't remember if the leakage is dripping through there! I'll have to take another look tomorrow!
  5. Possibly; we do hear stories of this happening. Plus the weather was pretty hot over the weekend....! I have a good stock rad-cap, I just thought I'd try the Z1 item to see if it made a difference. Sadly not quite the difference I was hoping for, it would seem:oops:
  6. Hard to say Ali - the undertray is completely intact; and I'm not really able to remove it in the confines of my garage. There is some evidence of wetness on the undertray, front right, near the bottom hose, between the radiator and engine. That's from shining a torch down the front of the engine bay....
  7. Maybe Joel - I topped up yesterday, ran the engine and topped up until full. It dripped for a while and then stopped. However with the current hot weather, I don't want to risk any journey more than a couple of miles until I know all is well. I've posted in the help and advice section for ideas - it's probably a hose that's seen better days....
  8. ...Well, after Funky Si's starting woes last week, it seems we have another seemingly trouble free Zed, deciding to play games. After a successful Coventry trip over the weekend, I used the Zed for work on Monday, as I could not be arsed to move the cars around when we got home. Again, no issues, all was well - and I put the Zed back in the garage Monday evening. I was visiting one of our sites on Tuesday morning, so thought it best to use the SLK. However when I got home Tuesday afternoon, I spotted a wet patch under the garage door - I opened the door and saw the Zed had dumped all its coolant on the garage floor overnight. I can't see where it had leaked from, the pools are front right and rear centre - although the rear centre looks like the coolant has just run down the undertray and dripped from there. Most likely it's front right; possibly a hose failure. I had no overheating issues beforehand and there was no sign of leakage whilst parked on the drive, when moving the cars around. I did, however, fit a new 1.3 bar Z1 radiator cap on Saturday. Could the increased pressure have caused an old hose to pop? I filled the radiator and run the engine for a while - topping up as the coolant level dropped. It leaked some more for a while but has since stopped. I checked again today, and the radiator was still full. Any ideas would be gratefully received. I could pop the car down to my local garage for them to take a look - but if it's something more serious or ZX-technical, I would certainly be best getting the RAC to deliver it to Jimmer. Thanks, Richard:sad:
  9. I'm not so sure I'm going to make this now.... ......Initially I was weighing it up against another engagement; however I now have a slight ZX issue:sad: I used the Zed for my daily commute on Monday - I couldn't be bothered to swap the cars around when we got back from Coventry on Sunday evening. All was well, as usual, then I parked the Zed back in the garage Monday evening, as I had a site visit at the QEOP Tuesday morning, hence took the Merc. When I got home Tuesday afternoon, I parked in front of the garage, and spotted wetness under the garage door. I opened it up, and saw the Zed has dumped all of its coolant on the garage floor...!
  10. Very nice Chris....
  11. Many happy returns for yesterday Mrs Young - hope you had a great day!!! Richard:happybday:
  12. LOL - we'd love to do that........ But in these PC times in which we live and all that....
  13. Indeed Dave.... It's always nice catching up with the old faces, but it was great to meet some new ones too..... Mondo, Alic (and father), Gray (and Julie), Lee Dent, Paul (Nemesiszx) - to name but a few - it was a pleasure to meet you for the first time!!
  14. And a big thank you to all our members for turning out - and making this event the success it was. We could not have done any of it without your support..... It was indeed a great day and on behalf of the committee, thank you.... And how good was it..... Hell, that was the one thing none of could have organised or planned any better.....!!! Nope - I didn't either.... And I'm probably a similar colour; or am I just another turd.....
  15. I second Joel's comment there! The NEC show is the classic car show of the year. So considering it attracts the pinnacle of British classic cars, from our very own 300zx to Astons and Gullwing Mercs worth hundreds of thousands of pounds, you'll generally find that expert supplier to cater for your need.
  16. Sorry to hear that Si... Fingers crossed, you can get it working again for Coventry:clover:
  17. Hi and welcome Michael...!! Whereabouts in Oxon are you mate? I'm not a million miles away, being a little further down the M40; about 10 minutes from Handy Cross.... Richard:cool:
  18. Hi and welcome to the club mate! Nice Z you have there - and those wheels really suit the car too:cool: Richard:thumbup:
  19. Hello and welcome Peter! Richard:cool:
  20. Good luck with the new toy Gray.....
  21. Yup - fingers crossed for Ali...:clover:
  22. That sounds like (part of) the issue Ali....! I think we can all accept that you put in the correct fluid, perhaps just not enough! As said, these 'boxes take in the region of 8 litres plus - and when you put it in gear, the level drops instantly! Hence the need to run it through from P to 2 and back again, with the engine running; and check the level whilst still running in D. Do that, add more (much more) fluid until it's full and then see if it works before condemning the 'box. A few litres of oil is still pennies compared to the cost of a replacement - so you have nothing to lose.
  23. Same thing mate (in an auto, that is) - ATF = automatic transmission fluid! Runny red liquid, pretty much the same as power steering fluid. I trust that's what you poured into your tranny, via the dipstick tube. Apologies if I sound patronising Ali, I don't mean to be, I just want to help establish what's wrong with your car...!
