Looking for a mid-range laptop...is this any good?
lol! Glad you got it in the end mate...it's weird, when you upgrade your monitor size you start wondering how you coped for so long with a smaller screen! :D BTW, I can FINALLY afford that Fireface 800 now...just shopping around for the best price...also going to order that second 20" to go dual screen on the studio set-up...can't wait to use the system how it's mean't to be used...I've been chomping at the bit chap I tells ya! :D

Looking for a mid-range laptop...is this any good?
Dave! Really wanted to ask your advice chap but didn't want to take the p1ss as you've helped me SO much recently. That one looks seriously good, thanks (the first page won't load for some reason). As you've recommended it I might have a bit more leverage to persuade Lucie that there are more options out there than just Samsung as I know she knows you know your onions (try saying that after a few pints... :D ;)) I am currently sat in front of the computer with my guitar on lap tabbing out Stronger, Faster, Fitter and Stay Forgotten for Anthony our new guitarist...and I'm bored out of my brain...would much rather be playing EVE right now! I'll get it downloaded and get myself on there if it kills me! lol :D ;)

Looking for a mid-range laptop...is this any good?
Cheers guys. Unfortunately it looks like we're definately going Samsung now as she saw a couple of write ups for their new R610 model (with blu-ray disc-drive: http://www.dabs.com/Article.aspx?ArticleId=4966 at the bottom of the article) which is being released next month....I am going to be skint again. Arrrrgh....

Question about Rust...suprisingly non-car related!
Yeah but the flange we get is unbelievable.....lol  Ahhh, but you'd be lost without us...after all, would you rather drive a shapely Z or a box on wheels...? ;) Cheers folks. I'd been toying with going down the laquer route however I was concerned that the oxidization process once started would continue underneath the protective layer and literally eat the piece away from the inside. However, after a few interesting replies on the Z Club it appears that if the metal is sealed in a low-humidity environment the chances of it continuing are minimal. TBH, a small increase in rust over the years is not a problem....the thought that the piece could continue to evolve without any intervention is, in some ways, quite appealing.

Looking for a mid-range laptop...is this any good?
Actually...am I being dense...is this laptop the same as the ones in the link I posted above?? http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0535283911.1222862211@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccciadeffgmhhdjcflgceggdhhmdfhm.0&page=Product&sku=937014&category_oid=-34014&fm=1&sm=0&tm=0 Only in the some photos on various sites they aren't always shown in that black/red finish that she's (for some reason) after!

Looking for a mid-range laptop...is this any good?
The other half has got a birthday coming up and I know she'd love a laptop (mainly because she's been looking at them on t'interweb and pointedly leaving the sites up on the computer! lol! ;)). The one she's got her eye on is one of the Samsung R510 range....mainly because it matches our TV (the whole red fade thing that the Samsung series 6 LCD TV's have)...I know, I know...don't ask...! ;) What do people think of it? I know it comes in 3 flavours, the entry model that comes with Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 2.00GHz+2GB RAM+160GB storage, the mid-range model that comes with Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 2.00GHz+3GB RAM+320GB storage and the high end that comes with Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26GHz+3GB RAM+320GB storage: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/search_results.php?sortby=&groupid=&search=Samsung+R510+Laptop Also, are there any other laptops people would recommend? Anything up to £600 is do-able as I'll split the costs between me and my folks as a joint pressie! Cheers, Leigh.

Question about Rust...suprisingly non-car related!
Bit of a weird one. I'm getting back into my art practice and looking to do several pieces using rust as the main medium. Essentially: take an image, break it down into black and white (by that I mean pure black and white similar to some comics etc), create a template of the picture cutting out either the black or the white area, fix template over sheet of untreated steel, coat the metal that shows through the template in phos acid, leave outside for a bit (!), remove template and the finished product "should" be a picture created out of the contrast between the rust and normal metal. However, once it's done I'd need someway to "fix" the rust (and indeed the non-rusted parts) so a) it doesn't fall off and b) doesn't spread into the non-rusted metal parts. Does anyone have any ideas on what, if anything, I could use?? Told you it was a weird one! :D ;) Cheers, Leigh.

Our next gig: Saturday Sept 27th, Birmingham
Just wanted to post to say a massive THANK YOU to all those that came along to support us on Saturday! It was a helluva gig and we had an absolute blast! :D Despite me slicing a finger and bleeding everywhere on stage after the second song then proceeding to bust not one but two strings 3 tracks before the end it went above and beyond our expectations! Think we must've done something right as the producer of Ditto Music Live (Thursday on Red TV on SKY channel 186) spoke to me after the gig and invited us to play live on the show...possibly with Marillion or another "name"! Insane! :D

Selling a Private Plate: advice needed!
I was waiting for that question :D ;) Before the music really got off the ground I was (still am) an artist/sculptor. I wanted a pseudonym to sign off my work and chose Friday for 2 reasons: 1. A "Friday Job" is something that's put together in a rush (ie 4:55 on a Friday afternoon! ;)) and as a result doesn't quite work properly. I've had Crohn's disease since I was 12 and this kind of made sense! First read it way back in the day when I used to collect 2000AD. They reinvented the old Rogue Trooper storyline (a clone trooper bred for war...precursor to Star Wars Episode I anyone?) and gave him the name "Friday". The explanation for his very different state of self-awareness and ability to think outside the rules layed down for him was that he was a defective "Friday Job". 2. From Dafoe's "Man Friday". Lots of reasons! And it kind of....stuck. So I carried it over to my music. My persona on stage is very different to how I am "IRL" so it aids the seperation. Er...if that makes sense and doesn't come across as overly schitzophrenic! :D Cheers for the link!

Nice one! Hope there's no hard feelings with John mate. He played a blinder in the audition and as I said on the phone to him it really was a close run thing between him and Anthony :)

Our next gig: Saturday Sept 27th, Birmingham
That's great news John! :D TBH mate I certainly wouldn't have held it against you if you didn't as I know you're going through it a bit right now! :( I've stayed in the City Inn Hotel in Brindley Place (just off Broad Street) before and that was lovely. It's definately a taxi ride away though: http://www.cityinn.com/birmingham/ Here's the venue details: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=159611438 It's right by the Jewellery Quarter which is a nice part of town (well, nice-ish! :D ;)) and also within spitting distance of Jools Hollands "The Jam House". Haven't stayed in any hotels round there but here's a few I've just pulled off t'internet that are pretty close: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?ie=UTF8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&q=hotels+36+Ludgate+Hill,+Birmingham&fb=1&hl=en&sll=52.479856,-1.905258&sspn=0.011338,0.019637&latlng=52480358,-1905033,6455786111257016690&ei=t5rbSM6cO5SmoQOLvbn7AQ&cd=1 http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?ie=UTF8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&q=hotels+36+Ludgate+Hill,+Birmingham&fb=1&hl=en&sll=52.479856,-1.905258&sspn=0.011338,0.019637&latlng=52482089,-1906673,10235568920571917300&ei=t5rbSM6cO5SmoQOLvbn7AQ&cd=2 http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?ie=UTF8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&q=hotels+36+Ludgate+Hill,+Birmingham&fb=1&hl=en&sll=52.479856,-1.905258&sspn=0.011338,0.019637&latlng=52482389,-1899910,8175330989414797377&ei=t5rbSM6cO5SmoQOLvbn7AQ&cd=3 The only downer is I can't make it a late one as usual as I've got to be up at stupid o'clock the next day, probably 11pm/12am curfew at the latest which is a bit of a bVgger. Will be great to see you mate (there's at least one other fellow "Zedder", my best mate John Dixon, who'll be there....hopefully a few more as well! :)) Leigh.

Advice needed: is this leather damage repairable?
Tamworth would be very handy indeed! :D Do you have an address, number or website Steve? Cheers!

Advice needed: is this leather damage repairable?
That's encouraging to hear, cheers :) If I go for these I'd be looking at getting the rear seats re-trimmed to match, if I can afford it!
-
Advice needed: is this leather damage repairable?
Just wanted to ask people's opinions on this...I'm thinking about buying some different seats for the V8 Z and I've found a pair I like however the driver's side has some wear to the bolster. As you can see from the photo the colour has worn off completely in the worst parts. Would there be any way of sorting this out without resorting to recovering the entire seat? I'm not really clued up on this sort of thing so any advice would be appreciated (particularly as the auction for them ends tomorrow! :)) Cheers, Leigh

Samsung Omnia any good?
Ditto. I've had the N95 since release and it's been the best phone I've EVER had. Everything it does, it does well and Nokia have kept on the ball with firmware updates! The phones we're looking at as replacements have a high standard to follow.

Our next gig: Saturday Sept 27th, Birmingham
For those that are free and fancy a pint and some live music...our next gig is this Saturday at The Actress and Bishop in Birmingham, just off St Pauls Square near the Jam House. A well known venue on the Birmingham gig scene we're on at 8:30 and playing for the first time since our line-up change after our last gig at the end of July. Our new guitarist is phenomenal and it's going to rock ;) If you're free, come along...there's a whole line-up on that night so you won't be short of bands to accompany your pint-age :D ;) To hear what you'd be letting yourself in for just click on the banner in my Sig which will take you straight to our MySpace page! :) Cheers, Leigh.

Samsung Omnia any good?
Myself and the other half are now both in the quandry of which to get. We were going with the Iphone till we found out about the lack of video recording, MMS and distinctly average camera (mega pixel-wise). These are big things in our book (I use the video recorder when I'm at gigs) Been digging around on the Omnia, X1 and Android. I love the look and sound of the Omnia but we're going to hold out to see if the X1 delivers...

The Future is Bright....
You know what Pete, I may yet take it all back :D I'm sat here looking at it and, in a very weird way, I quite like the orange/dark combo! It's difficult to tell what it would look like without the plethora of decals flying across it...but it could just work!
-
The Future is Bright....
Like it. Stripped out is definately the way forward. Looking forward to seeing this beastie fully operational! :D

The Future is Bright....
Really, I'd never have guessed :D ;) Who says they have to be off the shelf, heavy fibreglass muck though? As you yourself obviously know, the DIY route opens up a whole new ball-game, n'est ce pas? ;)
