Devil, When you're right you're right, sorry for arguing, consider me slapped down :( But if you can block, or remove these pipes with no ill effect, I cut short my new system for nothing. What was that word again..........oh, yes TWAT!!!!

my guess is he removed it because it wouldnt fit through the hole in that new strut brace
  3. geoff, is your motor still in the garage??? FFS!!!

is thatthe two small bore pipes that join the exhaust just before the cats? The ones I thought were the o2 sensors? And you can just block them off with no ill effects?
  5. glad to hear you got it sorted, well done :D
  6. nige, dont let your missus read tht post or youll need the barbie, while you are living in the shed:D I know , its still cheeper, I was just having a morning rant, still am off to pick it up now, so new toys will make me smile again:D
  7. import excise = 17.26 vat = 89.31 clearance fee=8.00 total=114.51
  8. My only thought on all the above is that you should do as watchdog et al do. If there is a complaint about a person or company, and it is to be posted, then the person or company concerned should be given the opportunity to reply. A one sided complaint is bound to be biased to some degree. just my humble opinion
  9. i at least like a drink and a meal before I get a f*cking, its not like I am looking for commitment. tw*ts
  10. Think it is fair to say we have all had the hours of frustration, then that moment where you realise and could give yourself a severe slapping. There should be a word to describe it.lol
  11. more of a rant than a request for advice, though any advice would be welcome. Ordered $500 kit from courtesy and was eagerly awaiting its arrival, as time wore on I was getting concerned by its non-arrival. I needn't have worried, it was safe in the hands of H.M. Customs and excise, and for the the paltry sum of £114.57p, they will let me have it. Robbing basta*ds. I take it this is standard robbery? or have I just been unlucky?
  12. from my experience on my bike ( you think zeds get attention, try a fireblade, with a loud pipe and black visor :)) I always go by the rule, if the cop gets out the car smiling, he is either a car fan or he is going to do you no matter what you say or do, so say what you like. if he gets out with a frown, he is going to give you a bollocking and , as long as you dont have anything severely naughty going on, or get lippy, thats probably all. It might seem stupid to everyone else but it has always worked for me:)
  13. I cant say that i know a lot about the wiring on jap cars but I hope the following helps. to be honest , your best bet is a multimeter (£20 quid should get you one, any electrical store, b&Q, maplins etc) Failing the multimeter, you need a 12v bulb (which you know is working. If you have identified the earth on the car, leave the ignition off and while holding the earth to the one contact of the bulb, go through the other wires in turn, holding each to the other contact. If any of them light the bulb you will have found a permanent feed (12v supply whether the ignition is on or off) a lot of head units use this for maintaining memory. if you find it write it on a bit of electrical tape and label it. next, switch the ignition on to aux (where your leccy windows work), switch off the headlights and go through the same process (ignoring the permanent feed identified above) when you find one that lights the bulb, this is your switched feed, it will be the main supply to your head unit (this is usually so that you cannot leave the stereo on and drain the battery). label it again. next, switch on your headlights and go threough the process agiain, find the one which is live when the lights are switched on and this will give you the supply to light your fascia on the head unit. The speaker wires are usually in pairs and usually identified by opposite colours, eg : blue with a white strip matches white with a blue stripe, or they may be part of a two core cable. And looking briefly at the wiring diagram (link below) it seems to be the same on the zed. As I said all the above would be easier with a volt/multimeter You also have to find the feed coming out of your stereo that goes to the leccy arial, and the wire to which you should attach it, but thats another story. the above should at least get you power to your head unit and limit your options for blowing your unit up A couple of points, it is a good idea to put an inline fuse on your feeds, switched or otherwise. if you have to join wires a well soldered joint is better than any plastic connector block. If the earth was not fitted to your old stereo, I am surprised that it was working. It is not dangerous, per se, as in a car there is no true earth, it is the return to the battery through the bodywork and in a controlled unit like a stereo, it would be like taking a connection of a battery, no connection , no circuit, no sound. http://www.300zx.co.uk/cgi-bin/manual.cgi
  14. cheers, but I think we have it sorted
  15. nah, definately not mounting brackets, I junked all them as well. No worries I will have a troll through the manual and saee if there is a part number, thanks for the input :D
  16. not as far as I am aware, I removed the cats and sensors. there is a small bore pipe which joins the exhaust just shy of the cats, which sits into a bush. I am lead to believe that these are the o2 sensors
  17. Does anyone in my area (north kent, croydon, surrey) have a conzult who would be interested in renting it out for a day? I know it is only 250 to but but having spent $500 on courtesy, £650 on a pipe and £600 on my new front end and spoiler I am potless, also scots :)
  18. where the o2 sensor enters the pipe, there is a "bush" on the pipe wall which the sensor screws into
  19. makes me wish I had went for a manifold back pipe.lol Devil, on your pies, what did you do about the o2 sensor bush? can you buy one? This was the main reason why I didnt get the full system, the exhaust guy couldnt source the bush to refit the o2 sensors.
  20. sorry, I meant was not a problem as the cat is no longer there, my new pipe runs from the rear of the o2 sensor back.
  21. I dont mean to be sarky. but if the 100watt bulbs blew, why did you try 133watt bulbs? And welcome Bob :D
  22. This could be a topic for the new FAQ thread. It seems to come up on here quite a lot. We could have three versions: The Nissan recommended plug The "armchair mechanics recommended plug And the "just stick any old sh*te in" plug
  23. cheers mark, was beginning to think I was stupid (which is not to say that I am not):)
  24. sorry, probably didnt make myself clear. When I said engine braking, I was referring to an in traffic scenario, if in drive the box selects the highest gear and (certainly in the volvo) will carry a lot of momentum, which means you are constantly on the brakes and pissing of ther guy behind you. If, however you are locked in one of the lower gears, the engine is running restricted (in much the same way as you would select a lower gear for going downhill) and so , overall, you require less braking time. Also, volvo themselves recommend this as the "preferred method" of restricting engine speed. In fact their "wet weather" position on the gear box does exactly the same thing, locking in a lower gear.
  25. dont like to be fussy, but its Dont steal, the government hates competition :)
