  1. You will know if it was about the money if you see him start appearing in product advertisements from next year. The wages offer was fairly similar, its the personal sponsorship deals that will bring the extra cash. As mclaren already have decent longstanding relationships with lots of firms particularly hugo boss, then the drivers have to do what is asked for those sponsors, but they only allow a single personal sponsor deal for their drivers. The engine issue is a possible reason, but i doubt mclaren will be a slouch with another engine, they will still have a quality supplier. He has made just as many errors over the season as the team has, but he has definitely been unlucky over the years.
  2. Agree with you Andy. Hamilton could be a footballer, putting money over loyalty... Am sure Perez is happy about Lewis's decision though
  3. I think the trim is a great concept, I think it's just the vibrant colours don't quite mix well in such a small space. If the colours were toned down to be paler, I think it wold be ideal. What are you planning to change with them? Craig
  4. that pic of the control unit looks a lot different to the little control box with a 4 position dial and green launch button that it came with when i had it fitted to my car many years ago :-)
  5. it will be going to have a few little niggles and previous owner left overs resolved the next couple of weeks. then, i can borrow all 5.7 litres of KITT whenever i want, so i will start saving some fuel money for a summer of fun :)
  6. if you are old enough  might consider inviting him along to JAE
  7. hi Harve, Craig from the 'Craig' period is still around from time to time :cool3: more active in the committee forum than the public though. hope you are well
  8. Having the Log book doesn't make you the owner. If you dont contact previous keeper or establish the owner, they could reappear at any time to claim it back. Which could be AFTER you have spent money fixing it up, which they do not have to pay back to you, as they never asked you to fix up their car...
  9. hi all, After the recent visitation from Nico, and then the follow ups from other previous old time members, i thought it relevant to share some history. Nico originally setup a forum hosted on Bravenet, where the UK Z community got started. There was no 300zx.co.uk at that time, it was just a bravenet URL. Myself and many of the longer standing members 'met' through this forum, thanks to Nico. However, that hosted forum was very flaky and kept breaking down, due to the hardware being a shared/hosted service, nothing dedicated. Subsequently, after a particularly long period of broken forum, i purchased the 300zx.co.uk domain (as well as twinturbo.co.uk and z32.co.uk), purchased new hardware and setup and installed a dedicated server and forum software, then Nico and I jointly adminned the 'new' community of 300zx.co.uk which ran mostly fault free for quite a while. When the community grew too large for the hardware, we started a 'contribution' fund to help pay to upgrade the hardware as necessary. This went on for a period of years, until Nico took a back seat (or fell out of the car altogether.;)). I then carried on with the site as sole admin and moderator for quite a while, until some time later i had to sell my car for family reasons (5 into 2+2 don't go!) At that time i pulled the most regular and long standing members that were available into a face to face meeting (with help from TopLess), and the 'committee' was born. This discussion culminated in a bona fide club being created to fund itself and keep the community alive, regardless of who came and went from the committee. For this to happen, and for the bank to recognise us legally, the club needed an AUP and constitution, which we have. This was all necessary to ensure that no single person was responsible for the tax liability of subscription income. The AUP and constitution do need tweaking from time to time to meet ever changing requirements. Over the years, some of the comittee have remained, and some have changed, and the same with the moderators group. During the whole time, i have regularly visited the site, posting in the committee forum, attending some of the committee meetings/calls and providing input to the club whenever i could. However, i have not posted so regularly in the general forums, because my commitment level was not high enough at the time. This is changing... The whole community has gone through some bad times, with trouble makers, off shoots, libel threats, but that is more than made up for with the great community spirit, the people, and the massive dedication of some that help to organise and run everything. There are always glitches, and problems with handover of roles, but the whole committee and moderation team all provide input to the forum from their free time, for NOTHING. NOONE takes any income from the site or your subscriptions, including me. EVERY bit of the subscription and trader money goes towards the club. Server and hosting, bandwidth, liability insurances, events, food, equipment hire, welcome packs, shop items. So, although the forum was started by Nico (1-2 years?) then maintained and developed further by me (2-3 years), the longest part of the 300zx.co.uk community history has been under the guidance of the committee (10 years!). I believe the community would have died long ago, and be a smattering of little forums here and there, if it had not been for that initial kick off into a bona fide entity. So in my opionion the community that you all love is all thanks to everyone, with contributions along the way from MANY significant others. If anyone has a problem with me having an honorary membership, then let me know and i will GLADLY subscribe. Especially now that i am picking up my involvement. If the honorary membership is fine, and if people feel that Nico, being the originator, warrants honorary membership, then we will sort that out. But there are a few others that should be eligible for this based on their commitment to the community. AndyP, MAC 1, Kim, and many others have put years of service, blood, sweat and tears into making this place run well for no reward, other than keeping this place alive. If we want to recognise the notable people of the forum in this way, then it can be discussed and we define some criteria to make it acceptable to all. But let us NOT start fighting over who did what and when, because the success of anything relies on commitment, and everyone has that potential. Regards, Craig
  10. there is a 5k fine if you replace a cat with a non eu type approved cat, but not yet found the legislation on removing a cat from a vehicle which should have one, according to vehicle type approval
  11. hi Nico, glad to see you are still around. you kind of dropped off the planet.... im amazed that you still have the zed, and not actually been here to post... ;) regards, Craig
  12. its not all about exchange upgrades, but also about backhaul. the exchange upgrade is to change the dslam to allow faster connections from the home. up to 2mb adsl, or over 2mb adsl2+. for example. but backhaul is more important... all telephone line based broadband providers will go through the same bt infrastructure. but your data connection is handed off into a data pipe that is connected to your provider at the exchange dslam. this data pipe is the backhaul. the physical part of this backhaul could be 100Mb, but your speed depends on how much bandwidth your provider has purchased for the backhaul from your exchange onto their network. its a virtual pipe, so they only buy as much as they think they need to support the number of customers they have from that exchange. if they over subscribe this pipe, then your speed goes down, as you have higher contention ratio. contention ratio never went away, it is just not advertised very much anymore.... mainly because backhaul prices have gone down over the years. when a new provider comes into your area, they buy for example, 10 Mb of backhaul. the first few customers that are signed up are happy as larry, loads of spare bandwidth. the next 20 or 30 customers sharing that 10Mb pushes the service down. the provider will have some tipover point where they think they should upgrade that backhaul or risk losing customers.... also, on top of that, many providers also push all of their traffic through url filters, as well as traffic shapers. traffic shapers allow them to cap your virtual bandwidth at busy times of the day, so that all 30 customers get some guaranteed bandwidth, say 250k, so if everyone is flat out using it, it is slow, but the service never stops completely for you if those 30 are using at different times, then you will get more share of the 10Mb Sky started out great in my area, so a lot of my friends swapped over, and now they complain that it is slow at peak hours my BT connection is always fine, because BT will always have a bigger and easier upgrade of that virtual data pipe than any of the other providers but if the physical backhaul connection from your exchange is only 10Mb, then it doesnt matter who your provider is....you are screwed until BT upgrade. in some cases, providers have put their own dslams into exchanges where they expect to get a lot of connections, in which case, they can have their own physical backhaul and things will be much better for their customers
  13. haha.. i am still around, just dont post too often :) my kids came to nearly all of the meets back then. they have done the last couple of years when i have turned up at JAE too. i am sure we will see little Matthew make an appearance in the future??
  14. many congratulations Andy. that's great news mate. hope you all get into a routine quickly to preserve your sanity :-)

  16. and very nice it was to meet you. always nice to see people with enthusiasm for the club, and could tell you had it in spades :D was hoping to meet Kim, but understand i missed him by about half an hour. would definitely have been there saturday if it was not for a family wedding.
  17. Dave, really good to hear from you, but sad to finally see the day you sell your Zed. You were one of the first people i ever met regarding Zeds, and always appreciated the long treks you made to visit for meets. i would sell as many parts from the car as possible before handing it over. although it should never be allowed back on the road because it has to be registered as scrapped, the scrap dealer will be able to dismantle the vehicle and sell the spares. you should make that profit yourself. the car does not even need to be running, so you dont need to replace any parts, just take all the bits off that you want. as long as it was MOT'd then they have to take the vehicle in any state. all the best Craig

top marks to Dave for that. there was nothing mentioned on the proper site at all about the GT version. and from that article, it certainly does look like the porsche, which is probably why i remembered it.

according to the gumball gallery and the badge on the front, this is a Farboud GTS, but it must be a very special version, because it looks absolutley NOTHING like the version on the official farboud website
  22. timescale to crack depends on complexity of key, and volume of interceptible traffic WEP on and WEP off has nothing to do with sharing internet connections, its just protecting the traffic between devices. Turning off guest account, installing firewall, usernames/passwords and shares security will not make your data safe when you transfer it over a non encrypted connection, unless the data itself is encrypted first. You are only protecting your pc from direct attack. But as previosuly said, other than protection of transmitted data, the purpose of securing your wireless connection is so that you can control who is actually using that connection. its a bit like having a car and leaving the keys in it when your are not using it, so that anyone can borrow it when they need it. when (or if) they bring it back (undamaged?), how long before you get camera NIPS in the post, and how do you prove you were not driving ?
  23. i remember that feeling too if i were you, i would stay away from any decent stretches of road for a while, and stick to congested back streets so you dont miss it so badly.... 3 years on and i still wonder sometimes if i made the right decision..
  24. need to make sure they are set for "ad-hoc" mode in the wireless properties.
  25. ah yes, while we were waiting for some "other issues" to be resolved.... b19rks, yes there is life after the forum, but its damn slow.... ;) selling my zed was the best and worst thing i ever did, and still regret making the right decision at the time !!
