  1. Braided brake lines will improve your brakes, as will a fluid change. Sounds like you need new tie rod bushes too. MJP for the kit - it's easy to do. good luck Jack
  2. The two problems might be related. Here's a story, not a solution... I got a Z with a botch fog light to get it through an MOT. There was a simple switch added to the dash with a wire feed right through the car to a reversing light bulb that had been painted red. Switch it on and one reversing light glowed red - MOT pass. But, one wire in the circuit near the reversing light had been cut to stop the red bulb lighting when selecting reverse gear. Only down-side was that the check engine light was always on. So, what the 'bodger' did was remove the boot courtesy light bulb - hey presto, no check engine light. As soon as I replaced the boot compartment light, the check engine light came on so what I had to do was remove the bodge completely and re-connect the cut reversing wire. And at MOT time I repace the bodge and remove the boot light. ...it sounds to me like you've a bad earth somewhere around the rear lights... Good luck Jack
  3. You need to worry about back pressure on an NA. In my opinion the best exhaust on an NA is an original Nissan TT exhaust with the restrictors removed. Good luck Jack
  4. It's not actually a car. It's a model of a car that doubles as a bottle opener. Haven't you guys got one of these? I presumed every Z owner had their own Z-shaped bottle opener... Very usefull in these days of global warming. Cheerz Jack
  5. James - sorry to hear of your bad news. You seem like a resourcefull bloke, give it a week or two and you'll be earning again. Can you set up on your own or with some of the other guys who were mwde redundant - take on what's left of the old bosses customers? Good luck Jack
  6. Had it replaced a month ago - sounds like you need to take it back to whoever replaced it for you. Good luck Jack
  7. Gearbox rear support. It needs renewing. But, before you buy another, take it off and pack hard rubber between the support main rubber and the frame. Get as much in there as you can. Put it back on and it should lift the prop into the correct alignment. You'll notice a reduction in the vibration but it'll be replaced by a coarse-ness as you'll be able to feel the drive. But, you'll have at least found the culprit. My 2p's worth. Good luck Jack
  8. Yesterday - I did A14, A12 M25 M20, then back again plus 100 more miles on the A14 for good measure - and saw 1 silver Z on M25 about 1pm. The shock nearly killed me.
  9. Mikes sometime out fixing customers cars. Try him about 5pm. Good luck Jack
  10. hair dryers a pain, just park it with the tailgate open facing the sun. that'll warm it enough to remove it - start in a corner or around the heating element connection. finish off with a good scrub of white spirits - the glass that is... cheerz jack
  11. Ed - keep us informed, like you I'm chasing the elusive vibration. The threads very informative - thanks. Jack
  12. It's normally the rear gearbox mount. It sags over night and you get that vibration that feels like a tyre flatspot. Once the cars done a few miles the mount gets worked back into alignment. There's not a lot you can do other than replace it, but here's a way to check that it reall is the mount. Take it off and pack it with hard rubber then put it back on. It'll place the prop in a straighter line but it'll be coarse ie the vibration will dissapear but you'll get a coarse ride - like the road surface is breaking up. You can also place spacers between the bearing and the gearbox - again it'll solve the problem for a short while but replacement is the only answer. The mounts last various amounts of time too - my last one did 18 months, the previous 4 years... Good luck Jack
  13. take it to a crash repair specialists. They will set it up on a jig so that all of the numbers are right. They'll welcome adjustable arms - it'll make their job easier. Did mine this way when I replaced all of the suspension. Charged me £64. ...and no fuss or *****cks. Good luck Jack
  14. This might be of help. Had the same problem with my NA after it not being driven for a week over Christmas. Normally it gets used everyday. It fired as expected then died almost instantly. I checked all of the usual suspects but all was ok. Pump in order, PTU ok - everything else in place. I found that I could just get a take if I pumped the accelerator whilst trying to start it. After a long time of pumping it reluctantly started. It ran rough for a minute - with me pressing the acceleator to the floor - then sorted itself out and has run ok ever since. It's as though the auto choke wasn't working (or confused) or there was no fuel getting to the cylinders. So, without sawing the battery flat, pump the gas and keep turning it. Good luck Jack
  15. looks nothing like the 2 wheel bearings I've got sat in the garage waiting to go on... Good luck Jack
  16. I replaced lowering coil-overs with standard height shocks (it's an NA) and with the lowered springs etc it was eating front tyres. It also had it's suspension setting set at a cost of about £150 to cope with the lowering springs (by the previous owner) - and obviously this wasn't effective. Once the right height shocks were on (£25 a corner from AndyZ), I asked about having all the suspension set up again - camber caster etc at my local 'fast car specialist'. I knew they hadn't the gear to do it so with a bit of persuasion they told me that the local crash repair specialist did it for them. I took the car to them and an afternoon later, picked it up, £64 lighter, and everything completely re-set to standard. And since then its driven straight and uneven tyre wear is a thing of the past. So, bolt all the new gear to the car and book it into a crash repair centre - they'll set it all up and they won't take 'specialist' money off you. Good luck Jack
  17. Aftermarket TT exhausts on the NA tend to be very loud - I've had 2 different types. UK aftermarket exhausts seem to be primarily designed for TTs and without two turbos quietening down the exhaust gasses, they can be too overbearing on an NA. But I'm old. Also, I do think that with a normally asprated car, it's not always about straight-through performance. But that's another can of worms. Good luck Jack
  18. The restrictor rings are at the entrance of the cat-back exhausts ie where they join together. They can be removed with a hammer and a screwdriver - three'four spot welds. I've run NAs for 7 years and prefer the standard TT exhaust on an NA to either a standard NA exhaust or an aftermarket TT exhaust. I've never tried an aftemarket NA exhaust (assuming they exist).I've also never fitted an NA exhaust onto a TT. I've used both Jap and UK spec Nissan TT exhausts on NAs - both seem the same. Recently I've replaced an aftermarket TTexhaust with a standard Nissan TT exhaust and found it better (throttle response). ...so, if it's an NA, fit a standard TT exhaust. That's my advise. Good luck Jack
  19. Martin - the NA has a larger centre box. The TT has restrictor rings in it. If you have an NA I'd recommend a standard TT exhaust with the restrictor rings removed. It'll be slightly louder than the standard NA exhaust and will fit no problem. The other way round ie NA exhaust onto a TT - I've no experience. Good luck Jack
  20. Richard ...sagging rear gearbox mount. Only replaced it Oct 05 but it was too low. Packed it with rubber and now it's ok. Prop and gentre bearing are fine. Cheerz Jack
  21. Apache ...you moving south? Cheerz Jack
  22. Hey - no worries mate. I'm under the car tomorrow to try and find out whats causing the vibrations. I'm hoping it's the prop. I recon the car has a hard life in Japan (quarter mile) and the props knackered. Wish me luck. If it is shot I'll be onto Pete to see if he has a good-un for sale. Cheerz Jack
  23. Value is in the eye of the beholder. I drive my na every day - have done for 7 years now and I go months almost years without seeing another. I'm not bothered that the rest of the word hasn't a clue. It's their problem. Do I aspire to a Ford. Sorry mate, I don't. I'm interested in being both individual and in the know. The real motoring people know what a gem the Z32 is, and I'm proud to be one of them. History will tell a different story to todays climate. Keep Zing. Cheerz Jack
  24. Hey Richard - you don't think the guys gonna own up to this do ya? My car could do with a wash - and a new prop shaft. Have you got one going spare? Cheerz Jack
  25. Simon Good to see you again - thing have changed for you since I bought that exhaust of you about 5 years ago for a crate of Stella. I'm still in a Z although it's purple instead of red. I keep a look out for you on the A14. Good luck - kids look great. I can recommend them. Mine are 27 and 24 and both work for me. It's great being able to see the each day. Cheerz Jack
