Haven't been here for a while but ...
I had no idea - let's talk like in the good old days : - who knows a pub with a car park for the next meet which is big enough for all 6 of us ? - I saw a Z going for £9,000 yesterday - man, they're getting cheap - have you seen Craig's latest haircut ? - I hear Steve E has replaced his pistons again - Hey Nico, if I told you your Z is about to be off the road for 3 years, would you believe me ? Sorry to most of you, this won't mean much to you. But then most of what you say doesn't mean anything to me. Phat ? WTF is that ? Dave

NZR - Guitars - who's got one ?
Used to have an '80s Jap Fender Strat (not a Squire !), a gorgeous Jeff Beck Strat for decent places, a cheap old bass for recording and messing about with, and a Fender electro-acoustic. Oh and a dodgy old chipboard Les Paul copy. All I have left now is the acoustic which occasionally gets picked up. And if anyone is interested, I have the following which I'll happily sell for any reasonable offer : Digitech RP6 multieffects unit Boss DR5 Drum machine Yamaha MT4X cassette 4 track All include manuals, the drum machine includes an instructional video and the 4 track includes a couple of books as well as the official manual. Drop me a PM or email if you're interested. Dave

Rear sliding
Jason, I can't remember but it'll be on the car somewhere (possibly on the drivers door from memory ?). If not, someone will know. I'm Z'less now so can't check ! I had this problem once and 3 psi made an amazing difference. Dave

Rear sliding
Before committing to new shocks, just check your rear tyre pressures. The Z is very sensitive to dodgy pressures, especially on oversized wheels. Dave

Coolant leak - bodge ideas needed
Thanks for the suggestions guys. The problem with trying to match a non OEM O ring is that I suspect that once I remove the pipe it will never seal again. It's my only car and I can't risk it being undriveable if I can't make a match. I live in the sticks ! Araldite did cross my mind but I really want to do the job properly afterwards and don't relish the idea of removing it ... Still thanks for your thoughts and I'd welcome anyone elses. Cheers Dave

NZR IT question
Does it have an attachment Jeff ? If so, can you get the file extension ? If you're using Outlook or Outlook Express, try for a permanent delete. Failing that, go onto my "Coolant leak bodge request" thread and give me the answer to my prayers ! Cheers Dave

Coolant leak - bodge ideas needed
As many of you are aware, I'm no longer a Z owner but I'd appreciate any suggestions for a short term bodge I need. My Pajero has sprung a leak, as can be seen here : The leak is from all around that joint and is a slow drip - not too much pressure. I believe that the joint is a push fit with a rubber O ring and the O ring has perished. I'll be going to Mitsubishi tomorrow to check that I've got this right and order the replacement O ring. But if they don't have it available by Christmas then I'll need a short term bodge. My initial idea is to clean it up with thinners (maybe brake cleaner?) and to then shove some instant gasket around it. Does anyone have any other ideas ? It needs to be temporary and I'm not keen to use Radweld. Any help will be hugely appreciated. Cheers Dave

Loophole in insuring a car with NOS???
Perhaps more importantly, if you have undeclared mods then the poor sod who you crippled, and his family, have screwed up lives which they then have to spend trying to get some compensation out of you personally. And before someone says they're a great driver and won't have an 'own fault' accident, I'm also including the payout which is because you hit some diesel or had a tyre blowout etc. People may hate insurance companies and the effect it has on our pockets. But there are times when insurance makes the difference between a life being bearable and unbearable. Please don't try and get away with not declaring mods.

New Legislation
I just had to share this ... I've been doing some work on changes to Anti Money Laundering requirements recently and some legislation I have been waiting for was delayed. I came across the following emergency legislation which apparently took priority before parliament ... http://www.legislation.hmso.gov.uk/si/si2003/20032988.htm Dave

If it's moving and it's not supposed to, put duct tape on it. If it's not moving and it is supposed to, spray WD-40 on it. HTH

Rune, Do you have CAPS LOCK buttons in Norway ? We have them in England but we don't use them very much. I think it's the climate. Dave

Newbie - Help Buying a TT
Martin, The AA/RAC checks are, in my opinion, a good thing. The technicians won't be Z experts but they are genuinely god mechanics in my experience. You can pick up on the particular Z things from the links posted above. The benefit of AA/RAC is that they are independent and seen as expert. I had one done when I bought my Z. The inspection cost me £250 or so but the paperwork produced allowed me to negotiate a £900 deduction for things which needed sorting. Cheers Dave

Aerodynamics
Which performance ? Cooling ? Speed ? Downforce ? Straight line stability ? They're all performance factors affected by aerodynamics and you can't improve one without screwing up another. With the exception of cooling, it's all irrelevant for road driving unless you get really silly.
-
Aerodynamics
Aerodynamics come into play at very low speeds. When I fly my paraglider with an engine, it has enough lift to take me and the engine off the ground at 25 mph. However, as you've noticed, there a number of factors to take into account : 1) How much drag the spoiler creates 2) How the air is directed over the top and bottom surfaces (the greater the air pressure difference between the top & bottom, the greater the downforce) 3) How much cooling is provided 4) Looks An aerodynamicist can do all sorts of calculations for you but, ultimately, the front spoiler only starts the changes to the airflow. The rest of the bodywork, under-surfaces, openings (windows & sunroof) have a huge impact and can totally negate any benefit from the front spoiler. So my advice, as someone who understands a little bit about aerodynamics, is go for the one you like the look of. Cheers Dave

Erm, are you SURE you want to fit NOS on your 350Z?
I love the way someone shows the guy half a conrod, and he joins in by pointing out that an intake pipe came apart from it's jubilee clip !

Outstanding Payment for Trax Tickets
Thanks to Gio, I stand corrected. I understand that this WAS originally arranged as a club activity and not something arranged outside the club. That's a completely different scenario to the one I incorrectly commented upon. Apologies to all - especially Ajay. Dave

Outstanding Payment for Trax Tickets
Andy, If it was a club arrangement then I wouldn't have a problem with it - fair enough. That's not how I understood this issue had arisen. As I understand it, it was done out of the goodness of Ajay's heart with no mention of club funds being involved. Please don't get me wrong - I have great sympathy. I arranged a Le Mans trip which left me out of a pocket but that's a risk I ran arranging something. It wasn't fair but I had to live with it. Assume for a moment that we had had club funds at the time of the Le Mans trip (we didn't, it was 3 years ago when we all had acne and no arthiritis). How would people have reacted if I had posted on the forum asking the treasurer to reimburse me from club funds because specific club members hadn't reimbursed me fully ? People who do don't pay up when they've promised to are t0ssers IMHO. But that doesn't justify using club funds - in my view. And this is not a personal attack - everyone involved in keeping this forum running is doing a tough job which I didn't volunteer for. I don't like it all but I chose not to get involved - so that's my tough luck ! And I wish you all luck with it. Dave

Outstanding Payment for Trax Tickets
Not been on here for a long time and may well have missed some stuff. However, it seems that my membership is about to be cancelled unless I pay up more money. That's not going to happen. However, I resent the fact that my previously contributed funds are being used to pay to subsidise people who haven't paid a debt. If you owe Ajay money then you should pay, pure and simple. However, if you do not pay, then my funds should not be used to subsidise you. Sorry Ajay that you've been let down. Believe me, I've been there and I sympathise. But to use the club funds is unacceptable when those funds were paid (by me at least) without any suggestion that they would be used to settle bad debts. Believe me, this isn't a big deal for me. However, this forum brought me great friends and help. I'd like to see that continue for others. Craig's principles (& Nico's before him) when running this site are not being followed and the place will change. That's a shame. Dave

Bye All
According to my latest private message, I am being asked to pay a further subscription. Well as my time on here is spent answering other people's questions, either via the forum or private email, I can find more productive things to spend my money on. So bye to all the great friends I have made on here. I've lost track of the number of years I've been on here but thanks for all the help given to me and I hope that I've been able to return the favour. IMHO it's a shame that the forum has gone this way. If there's ever a chance to give it a re-think, I'd suggest a one-off payment for life. There will always be new members coming along to fund things if you keep a decent core going. I'll remain in touch with some of you I'm sure. Cheers Dave
