Massive missfire
Good question. How do I tell this? Does it still sound like the PTU? or not now?

give me a clue!
The fog light switch on a UK spec car is under (I think) the heated rear window switch on the binnacle. Ivan

Massive missfire
Cheers boys. I've found the problem now but just got to find the cure. The drivers side rear coil pack connector isn't doing anything. I disconnected it yesterday whilst the engine was running and it didn't make a difference (usually revs drop etc.) so thats the problem. Now the question is whats the cure? PTU? MAF? Checked it for corrosion - none. I just need the cure now please. Ivan

Car security
Well I think I have at least one answer for you.... 1. Thatcham approved means it can withstand an attack for a certain amount of time and not indeffinately. If someone wants to nick a car there is no real way to stop them totally. 2. A really good produst I've seen is aclled the Auto tazer (sp?). It's one of these steering wheel lock bars and when armed has 50,000 volts going through which arc across it when tampered with. IIRC they were less than £100.00 as well. Fry the scum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :xxx: 3. Might be worthwile to stop them putting a extra switch in the ignition system somewhere (as well as the alarm-immobiliser) so it has to be on to allow the ignition to work. Mount it somewhere awkward to find but easy to reach if you know where it is (e.g. spare wheel well/boot area or under seats). You could take the handles off the door and iuse a TVR style push switch & solenoid setup to open the doors. Imagine walking up to a car and it not having any door handles inside or out!? But ultimately as I've already said if they want it bad enough they'll have it away. Ivan

Inconsistent MOTs
Now all MOT testers have a different view of whats a pass and whats not. Whereas someone will pass something someone else probably wont. It's up to their discretion. If the second tester prodded the sill harder than the first one then he could have caused the hole and therefor failed it. Brake balance could have failed in that time if the compensator valve went down in that time. "Tyre had something stuck to it" Maybe it fell off? HTH Ivan

Massive missfire
I have just recently had a problem with missfiring and it's been intermittant and now it's all the time. I have cleaned out all the electric connectors for the coil packs and injectors and it seems to only be running on 4 cylinders if that. Couldn't hardly pull away from a diesel Xantia the other day. Seems very reluctant to accelerate at all now :( Have currently got the battery dissconnected to re-set the ecu. How do I do a diagnostic whilst I'm at it? Vould it be the PTU (series one). The guy who had it before me put a second hand one on in september 2002 so dont know if this is the problem  I do need to cleand the throttles out as they haven't been done for about a year but do you think this will cause such a massive problem? Please help guy's    Ivan

Rev Limiter?
Yeah normally IIRC removing the rev limit is an easy way of getting more power out of just about anything. Ivan
-
dropping tickover
Mine almost dies at junctions when I come out of gear. Re-setting the ecu now to see if that cures it.

Whirring noise
Wheel bearings? Thats what it is on my car?  Ivan
-
Where's this noise coming from ?......
I used to work at a TVR dealers and whenever someone came in saying I have a ticking noise it was always leaking manifold gaskets. I recommend getting it up on a ramp/some ramps and looking underneath. The easiest way to tell where the blow is coming from is to hold some paper over what you think is the affected area and see if it moves or tip talc powder or dust down there to see if it bolws away. But it could just be the exhaust bolwing. Ivan
