  1. There's the Welsh National Motor Show at Chepstow on Saturday. http://www.zclub.net/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=261&day=2006-8-26&c=1 Dave
  2. Hi Bob - Thanks for the advice, that's why I am looking for someone fairly close to Swindon who will fit it for me for a reasonable price. Dave
  3. This has now become an insurance issue so I must get a pro to fit it for me. Anyone close to Swindon that can give me a good price? The alarm I have bought and need fitted is a Hawk HA-101. Dave
  4. Don't suppose anyone's got a U.K. cluster for sale have they? I need a MPH speedo, a mileage odometer and a working fuel gauge (mine's sticking). BTW It's for a non-turbo. Dave
  5. Just insured my 'new' Zed today:- Endsleigh (via Confused) - £1032 (somebody must be confused!) Ensign (via Sky Insur.) - £496 Ensign (via Adrain Flux) - £478 Group AMA (via A-Plan) - £323 All for same cover - 1995 Jap import N/A Manual - Tein Flex Coilovers & Non-standard high rear spoiler - £300 excess - 5k miles - protected NCB - Cat 1 fitted. I still have 3 or 4 companies coming back to me but, needless to say I went to Endsleigh (I'm only kidding) but it shows it certainly pays to shop around. Dave
  6. Thanks everyone, I now have a good quality avitar (I only wish I knew how I did it). Dave
  7. Gosh....How did you do that? More important, how do I do that? Dave
  8. Why is my avatar picture such poor quality? The original photo is good but I have to resize it down so much to be accepted by the avatar system that the resolution is absolute c**p. Other member's avatar photos seem to look pretty good...how do they do it? Dave
  9. Hi legrath - Too late, I've just sent you a Paypal to buy yours off you!! Never mind, I'm sure they'll come in handy sometime. :headvswal Dave
  10. But do the insurance companies agree?
  11. Thanks for the info guys, I have looked at Tein's site and have been reading up on the EDFC (I've never even heard of it before) and it looks pretty impressive and not too expensive at £220 + vat. One thing has given me a fright, however, on the front page of the FLEX instructions it says:- THE PRODUCT MAY NOT BE INSTALLED IN VEHICLES DRIVEN ON PUBLIC ROADS What the hell's that all about?????? Dave
  12. I collected my new Zed yesterday and I am quite pleased with it, it drives extremely well and I had a most enjoyable trip home but there are a couple of things that have taken the edge off my pleasure. 1) The radio aerial was not working, I have fixed that this morning by finding that the electrical connection for the aerial (in the boot) was not connected. 2) The boot light wasn't working. I have also fixed that by putting a bulb in (there was no bulb fitted at all). But can you please help me with the following two items:- 3) When I filled the tank the fuel gauge needle didn't move off empty (although the warning light went out). Any ideas? 4) There appeared to have been no rear fog light fitted. I phone the guy up this morning and he pointed out that a switch had been fitted near the bonnet release lever and this switched on one of the reversing lights. I found this to be correct but shouldn't the rear fog light be red, not white? Dave
  13. Thanks znut, but how warm do you have to get them - is hot water enough? And what does the heat do, does it melt any glue, or soften the plastic or what? How do you know when it's hot enough? If you could detail the procedure a bit more I'd be grateful  I don't really want to destroy my lights if I can avoid it! Dave
  14. O.K. - I picked up my new Zed yesterday and the coilovers fitted are TEIN. I have some information about them but it is in Japanese with just a word here and there in English. On the front it says:- DRIVING SPEC TYPE CONTROL FLEX MASTER Does that mean anything to anyone? If so, do you know if it's possible to obtain an English version of this information? Finally, there are some measurements handwritten alongside some printed measurements in a table, but as the headings are in Japanese I can't make head nor tail of them. Any information will be gratefully received - Dave
  15. And here is me thinking I'm so clever to find chromium bulbs at a good price!! Well, I got around to fitting them today and the side repeaters went without a hitch, but the front indicators........that's a different story. I removed the front light assembly o.k. and expected to find an orange bulb fitted but no it was a clear bulb, the colour was provided by an orange screen that surrounded the bulb inside the assembly. "No problem" I thought "I'll have to take the assembly apart and remove the screen". Easier said than done, although it looked as though the assembly was only clicked together it also appears to be GLUED!! Does anyone have any ideas how I can overcome this? Dave
  16. I learn something new every day! Whilst looking through eBay Z32 items (like you do) I came across some chromium bulbs for the side repeaters. They wanted £2.99 for a pair plus £1.89 postage. I had never heard of them before and thought they were a very good idea as in daylight the normal orange bulbs do show through the clear glass when not lit and partly spoil the effect of having the clear glass. Being what I am, a tight sod, I decided to have a look around town today to see if I could avoid paying the postage. My first port of call was Halfords!! That was a mistake, as usual. None on show and I soon got fed up of waiting to be served after being given the brush off by the fifth 'assistant' who was sauntering by. I then made my way to our local Motorists Discount Centre where I found two guys stood behind the counter just dying to serve someone. They had the side repeater version in stock for £2.50 a pair......Hooray......they also had the front 21W bulbs in stock for £2.95 per pair.......Whooooopee :hyper: So, if anyone fancies using these chromium bulbs, you know where to get them..............what a super day, I LOVE a bargain. Dave
  17. I've just ordered a Hawk HA-101 Cat 1 alarm and am planning to fit it myself to my new Zed this weekend. The professional installers charge a fortune for fitting them and I am not too interested in getting an insurance reduction, I'm more interested in security, remote central locking, engine immobiliser and a microwave sensor (to help protect my Zed when the Targas are off). Any advice on things to do, or not to do, when self installing? Dave
  18. My present Zed is 1990 Jap import manual and, although it is a non-turbo, it has a TT front bumper/spoiler which I think is a great improvement. I am picking up my new Zed on Friday which is a 1995 Jap import manual. It also is a non-turbo BUT it has a non-turbo front bumper/spoiler which looks a bit plain to my eyes. SO, I am planning to replace with a TT version. I am negotiating for one at the moment that is identical to my 1990 version but it has occurred to me that the 1995 version might be different. Would anyone who has a photo of a 1995 TT that shows the ORIGINAL front bumper/spoiler please post it here so that I can judge/compare. Many thanks - Dave
  19. I think you're asking two questions:- 1) Which is best, auto or manual?..........that has to be your personal choice as to whether you like to drive a car or whether you like a car to drive you. You have plenty of opinions on this expressed in previous posts. My personal preference is DEFINITELY the former.....I hate automatics. 2) Which is best, auto or manual 300ZX?.......from the short time I have been priviledged to read the items on this forum, I have repeatedly read how auto owners experience problems all of which seem to have very expensive remedies (one poor guy had THREE gearboxes in three years and is now selling his car in disgust). The problems with manuals seem to be much fewer and, when they do occur, seem to be much cheaper to fix. Even taking into account there are far fewer manuals around than autos, my opinion is that manuals are cheaper to maintain, more reliable and more fun to drive. The choice is yours! Whichever you decide on, you will have made a decision you will not regret, you will be a 300ZX owner.....JOIN THE CLUB :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: Dave
  20. A pair of targa shades (not the glass tops) with bags were sold on eBay for £32 a couple of weeks ago (I reported them here) Dave
  21. I'm just about to take delivery of my second Zed (a Jap import) and would like to keep a proper written service record to let future buyers know its history since import into the U.K. Does anyone know if you can buy blank service books, either 300zx specific or just a universal one? Dave
  22. I thought you said they were 18"...........they are only 1/2" on my screen!!!
  23. I haven't seen what colour they are but how will I know what type/model they are when I collect on Friday..........is the full name always on them? Dave
  24. Just spoken to the dealer I'm buying from. He says the car's gone through the MoT 100% and the garage informed him that there have been Coilovers recently fitted. Would someone tell me whether or not these are beneficial. I had no idea what they were until I had a quick search on our forum and it seems from what I've read so far that they are desireable for racing (which I wont be doing) but can give a hard ride for normal road use. I don't know the manufacturer of mine yet but shouldn't they be adjustable for both height and ride? Dave
