Auto Tec help
In my sometimes not so humble opinion, your mans comments were so fundametaly flawed that I cant consider him to be of any value with regard to any auto box. The debris from the filter will spread throughout the box in no time at all, and in the old days any ingress of this type of debris caused all sorts of minor damage which resulted in major damage, ie valves sticking, oil ways getting blocked etc which cause the major damage, often caused by low pressure.. It is easy to not notice low pressure in an auto box, and the clutches and bands get wiped out. Over heating is not likely to be a problem caused by the debris, cant see why he would say that. Destroying the face of the converter? There are needle rollers in some converters, (not many), in others just plain bearing faces. I suppose these could be affected, but the main worry in my opinion would be as mentioned earlier. 3rd gear is a weak point on these boxes. Not from a solenoid view but from a wear point. The clutch for 3rd is too small. If you ring Ken, on 01296 481145 and tell him what you have got I would expect him to give you a proper diag.

Auto Tec help
I used to work on Autos, Years ago now, BUT, YOUR AUTO MAN KNOWS NOTHING.. He is not a specialist. And you will get nothing but heart ache if you use him. Just one point, the ONLY way the split a torque converter is to cut it open on a lathe, and then reweld it. And yes the crap will be spread all throught the box, and yes the cooler can be cleaned, but it is not easy to get it clean. I could go on but I am not a specialist either.

Autobox – no gears!
It coulf be a broken pump, or it could have ripped the splines out of the stator in the converter. Also the epicyclic gear set is weak on these boxes but I think that only effects some gears. If there is no burnt fluid it is a breakage. You could dip the fluid, engine off, and then compare withengine on. Sometimes this will tell you if its the pump, ie the fluid goes down engine on it not pump. But 99.9% its box out time.

Alloy wheels Help!
Ok thanks, just thought it might save you some money if the worst happens, and as I said the car wont arrive for weeks so there is loads of time for you to try to make them fit.
-
Got the HORN!
No, the connections getting wet will make no difference, I doubt the problem is anywhere near the horns themselves. Could be a relay, but dosnt feel like that, maybe the connection on the steering wheel? Hard to tell.
-
Got the HORN!
Shouldnt worry too much about not having splash guards, so much water gets in to where the horns are when you drive it in the wet not having splash guards wont make any difference. Sorry.

GAS Conversion
Hey Gio,,, not sure common sense is what people want on this thread. LOL
-
GAS Conversion
If the weight, less efficency idea held any water then why would anyone fit a gas conversion? Fact is they are less efficent, and there is slightly more weight, but the cost per litre makes up for a great deal of this, hence the market for gas conversions. Of course the many thousands who have fitted these kits might all be wrong. There are those on this forum who dont like the idea of a gas conversion, fair enough, but to come out with unrealistic arguments just to try and justify ones position is not helpfull to the person who wanted some help. Such as "Chicken Shit conversion" Maybe he is looking at the best conversion money can buy, hardly chicken shit then is it? No offence, just trying to justify my point of view.

GAS Conversion
BK9!RS Said "Wouldnt catch me having a chicken shit conversion on mine, Like Duff said I reckon a niceley driven petol zed would give very similar mpg to a gas one, but without the worry your going to explode if your cigarette blows back through the window and lands on the rear shelf" A niceley driven Z could not get anywhere near the cost per mile of one running on a properly installed gas conversion, Not in a million years, and when was the last time you heard of a car blowing up? Gas or petrol. OK, it would lose a bit of performance but alot of you guys are missing his point. he can switch it to petrol when wants all the power, and who can use that much power very often?

wheel adaptors
It is I who should appologise, I got up out of the wrong side of bed. OK now though, Sorry, Mark
-
wheel adaptors
I am not suggesting anyone does it, just making a point. Having said that, these cars are inspected befoe every race and some run well over 1000bhp. An emotional responce is not always helpful.

newest zed?
Be very surprised if mines "new" but I have a '93.

GAS Conversion
I was thinking of having my Lexus LS400 done, spoke to a few people, turns out some just stich a pipe in the air filter (almost, I joke not) and some systems are ECU controled with mulitpoint gas injection. These are supposed to be really good when set up correctly, and for £1500 I guess thats what you would get. A lot of cowboys though.

wheel adaptors
Depends on the wheel but you often used to see dragsters with "spare" bolt holes, running alot more than 300hp.

Exhaust sound
I have replaced cars original engines with all sorts, from 4 cylinders to V8, and I find the exhaust makes a very big difference. True a only a V8 sounds like a V8 but that same V8 can go from non descript to great all from a different exhaust. And then you can add other factors like firing order, flat plane cranks, number of valves, type of carb/injection etc and of you go again.

servicing
On top of the above ONLY ever start the plug into the thread by hand, ie dont use the ratchet handle as it reduces the "feel" and is too easy to cross thread the plug.

Virus???
Thanks everyone, I thought I could kill two birds with one stone, ie warn everyone if it was real, and two, find out if it was real. I knew you were a clever lot.

Lost its Edge?
Thanks Andy, I guess the TPS and ecu info is avail with a search. I think I might try Opitamax first, after checking for a hose off, as I want to try one fix at a time to find the problem, if there is one. Mark

Lost its Edge?
Thanks Jeff, I had a feeling I needed an answer from you. I intend on asking you to service it for me at some stage but I am so busy and you so far away, relativly, that I dont know when. But your answer is what I was thinking, my last fill of fuel was the local Esso, and before that Tesco if I remeber right. To be honest I am not used to having to remember about which fuel, and I keep meaning to try Opitmax. I am sure you can relate to this desription, at the moment, the engine works far better if I dont give it full throttle. Part throttle acceleration is good, but when I floor the throttle it almost goes flat. I say almost because it is not flat but does not "roar, or have that certain edge". A term we used to use when cars had points etc. Do you know what I mean? Is a gut feeling more than anything, as you say in your email. I read your comments on pipes etc being off, but it is not that bad, although I will look. So Jeff what do you think about it going faster on part throttle? Does that ring any bells? Thanks for your time. Mark
