  1. And I have an email with some info from a company that sells them.....
  2. As far as I know, Specs read every number plate they can at the first camera, store it and then compare it with the second image. If the elasped time is less than the determined amount the computer processes it and sends it on, to who knows where and how. If the time is greater than the set time it simply dumps the info. In passing, I have heard that the specs in Northampton, on a dual carriageway, can only read the fast lane. I have looked and it does seem to be right, I dont trust it though and go slow.
  3. Back to the reading. or not of square plates, I was told that the software reads only in one line, ie a normal rectangular plate, and that when it reads say just 3/4 ,etters/figures it dumps it as it is not enough for a number plate. The theory being they will only loose a few so who cares. If true it proves the pint that they are not interested in speed as much as revenue. Same applies to bikes. I ran a squre plate on a Volvo est, and if I went too fast through a particulat speed warning device, the sort that flash at you and say slow down, it dd not flash me, but it did in other cars??? I am in favour of speed limits/cameras in towns, schools etc etc. But they would put them everywhere if they could, and then have a special middle lane for themselves like they used to/have in Russia. Afterall they are more equal than us. Proved by Blair Liar using the busses and taxis only red lane on the M4. Long Live The Revolution. (Bagsy I am Leader first)
  4. My understanding of rear plate law is that on an import you are allowed to have a plate that fits inside the recess made for the number plate, but no smaller than the recess...As for fronts, have not got a clue. Except that I understand "Specs" speed cameras cant read square number plates.
  5. Poor chap has enough troubles without being got at, unless you were making a joke. If so i appologise for thinking you could be so thoughtless.
  6. SRRAE, are you sure?
  7. Thanks for the info on the "Sandwich Toasters", but how does this mod make the lights any better? They do look better, but any additional relection is not going where it is needed, ie down the road, it seems to me that it is going everywhere but down the road. I am happy to be proved wrong, if you can. :)
  8. Sorry Gavo, I could not disagree more. What you have said would just not happen that way. In fact water in the oil or not the bottom end would not care too muchat tickover speed. Sure it would not do it any good, but it would run for quite a while. If you think about a car with the head gasket gone, it often means water in the iol, to a lesser extent maybe, but the bottom end goes on and on. and water and oil does lubricate anyway. No offence.
  9. So what is the Sandwich Toaster Conversion, Please.
  10. there are more powerful bulbs available generally, which ones fit the Z I dont know, but I do know that qulity is more important than power with bulbs. Ie, a good 65w is better, or can be, than a cheap 100w
  11. I cant see it being the bottom end, but you never know. You might be able to see a damaged piston from the bottom, I dont know. I feel it is more probably the piston/s and or a bent rod. Why a bent rod would stop it turning over I dont know, as in I feel it wouldnt stop it. But if a piston is falling to bits tha t might, and it might aslo bend/break a valve as it goes up and tries to squash the bits against the head/valves. In my limited exp, it should only have bent a rod and/or damaged a piston or two. Or as someone said, maybe it has wrecked a turbo and pust some of those bits on top of a piston. Sorry to ramble on, thinking out loud really.
  12. I first wanted to replace the fronts with same size, but when I saw how big the rears were I thought I needed something bigger in the front, and as it was very easy thats OK. I only thought of putting the Monitors in the boot because I had them in the loft, so that too was easy. AND I HATE monster subs that drown everything else. which is not saying they all do, but an awful lot do. No offence intended.
  13. Hi, I actually get none at all, unless I turn it up too much, but then most things rattle then, if you know what I mean. You have to make sure you have enough clearance between the magnet and the window glass when its down, I cant remember how much you have to play with, but it is enough. I fixed the speakers with nice black nuts and bilts, counter sunk heads on the outside. I would challenge anyone not used to Z's to notice they were not original, and only 3 are visible as one is hidden. I would do it again. I have some active Missions at home, (704a) which really rock, and my car is comparable, but not quite as good obviously, but still good. And using the Monitors in the back means you are not restricted to those stupid 6x4. Sure they take up some boot space but my Z is not used as a runabout anyway.
  14. I have put 6x9 Alpine in the front doors. I removed the steel speaker plates and attached the speakers to the door cards. I am very pleased with the result. No cutting is needed and I retained the original speaker covers. So it looks stock. And if anyone wants to critise, I know its slight unorthodox but would just like to say you havent heard them so you cant comment too much. As for the back I use some Monitor Audio home hifi speakers. Hidden under the cover on brackets. Sounds very good.
  15. And unless the Supras listed are modifies, which it does not say is the daxe, they dont know their cars either. 326bhp? from a stock Jap spec Supra? Dont think so....and their FTO's are way too expensive.
  16. Just had a quick look at fururaautos virtual showroom, they are not doing anyone any favours apart from them selves. The MX5s (eunos) are very expensive... good luck..
  17. Hi, Jiz300, any chance of his email etc? Please. Also I imported my ZX, it is very easy. Any questions you have that I can answer would be my pleasure. And the paper work is the easy bit.
  18. I allways mix my peanut butter with strawbery jam, is this OK? lol
  19. Just had another thought, the intercoolers get filled with water, so when you have cleared all of the water out of the engine, it fills itself back up when the intercoolers get sucked dry. At idle the water in the coolers will often stay there, its not till you rev it that they empty.

I have a 93 import. I changed the clocks over to UK mph. I had to remove the sppedo from the UK clock set, and put it in to the Jap set. All worked very well, and the speedo is 1mph slow acording to the SVA rolling road. I did not want to mess with stickers etc. UK clocks hard to find though, and I paid £120.00 for mine. people said it was too dear but try and find some.
  21. When an engine sucks up water it trys to compress it, as someone said, what happens then depends on the weakest link, some engines bend a single rod, some bend more than one, some do this and break/crack a piston or two. The act of bending a rod tends to stop the damage at that one, but of course it depends on how many pistons were on the compression stroke too. In my experience the bores are often OK. As your engine has stopped, it might have cracked a piston, and the running finished it off. I made this mistake with a 405 diesel, it ran ok ish until I ran it up the road, piston broke up, conrod came thruogh the block etc. If I had stripped the engine before running it up the road I could have saved it. What ever, you will almost certainly need to strip the engine and replace parts. And that means taking it out I guess.
  22. Nothing to say it has not gone wrong again since. Maybe?
  23. I never said this, Ha ha. Join a recovery firm, AA or similar, push the car onto the road and say it broke down, if you get the right service they will take it where ever you want. And it will last a year.
  24. Lexus LS400, Xantia TD and my wifes FTO (which I dont like), thing about a second car is it stops you getting blase with the 300. You end up enjoying it more, IMHO of course.
  25. Please dont forget to tell us what the fix was.
