  1. It is not the balancing. Do better to check the condition of the tyre, look hard. And wheel bearings can be very hard to "confirm" with out fitting new.
  2. I joined last year, wont again, basically I think they are a very well intentioned bunch of namby pambies. They have got nowhere since they started. We dont need another "presure group" we need someone who will organise, (If Possible In This Sit Back Country), a proper demonstration of the power we, as motorists hold, if only we would stick together. The government ignore the ABD, why should they do otherwise? they are no threat. The ABD is a waste of £20.00 IMHO. They need to get nasty. Then I will give them another £20.00
  3. Sounds like the turbos.................................sorry its just they get blamed for everything else
  4. If you enter into something like this with your eyes open its OK, I was worried you were looking at the car with "rose tinted specs". Good luck,
  5. They could have done ANYTHING to the engine. I used to deal in salvage and I have seen many things, inc sand pored into them, nuts etc, ball bearings. And of course just thrased to death, so bad that there is nothing you can do but throw it away. Also on a car with some poke they tend to thrash the whole thing, ie, BIG wheel spins etc, so what is the rest of it like? Ie gearbox, drive shafts. As for fitting an engine from something else, better to buy that something else with the engine in it.
  6. I thought black smoke was soot, ie too rich, fuel wise....
  7. Hot water sometimes works better, and quicker, and safer.
  8. There will always be young pretenders wanting our crown, but the truth is no colour will ever replace black. Just look at all of the fat girls, what colour do they wear?
  9. I seem to remember when talking to Jeff that with his conversion the car retained all of the brake lights until the fogs were switched on. I dont know if the diagram listed in this thread is Jeffs or not.
  10. Jeff TT does do the brake light to fog conversion.
  11. You have to have a light on the dash or at least where it can be seen etc, as for height, for the SVA they want a MINIMUM of 250mm from the ground, with a full tank of fuel. This is fact, but MOT? dont know.
  12. Yes it can work, putting into the gearbox on a Z is another matter. I would not, unless the box was on its last legs and a rebuild was due very soon anyway. Having said that we used to put thinners into granadas etc, work like a dream. But if the seal has been blown out due to overfilling it wont make any difference.
  13. Hi, seeing as no one else has replied yet, but i am sure they will, you could try swapping the plus ove, all from the left to the right etc. If its the plugs the missfire will move too. Not much help but its cheap.
  14. 300 zx said * "LOL and how much do you think a new Northstar v8 woudl cost? So who is talking new? And my point was not all yank engines are crude. *The entire thing is pointless as you loose the point of buying a 300zx in the first place. This is a personal thing, what your point is, is not by default my point. And I did not buy a Z just for the engine, which are fairly fragile judging from the many posts on this forum. * Its all part of a package, you now want to get rid of one of the major parts of the package. Point is you can 400bhp and a shit load of torque out the current engine for far far far less Ah yes, but for how long? And if you used it like you could use 400bhp of small block Chevy, about 9 months. And a small block Cevy engine making 400 bhp would leave a 400 bhp Z TT for dead in the first 50feet. And no turbo lag. Good fun this, :-)
  15. To find the speaker wire use an AA or AAA battery, when the speaker makes a noise youhave a "pair" of wires for that speaker...
  16. You guys seem to be forgetting that the yanks build the best engines for dragsters, and 350hp from a 350 cubic inch Chevy V8 is easy, and CHEAP, and will go on and on and on. Also the late sixties muscle cars were doing less than 6 seconds to 60, fresh out of the factory. A nicly tuned 350ci Chevy, making close to 400hp and bags of torque in a z would make a nice car. Dont be fooled into thinking all yank V8s are crude, try looking at the Northstar V8, from a caddy I think.
  17. When I used to rebuild autos, which was many years ago, manually selecting first in some gearboxes wrapped the band around the clutch drum as well, (something it did not do in "auto" first) this made it stronger, hence better for max throttle getaways/towing etc..... There is no question about it, manually shifting gears and backing off slightly as you do it is better for the box, I am not saying it is quicker/easier/better in any other way etc. My mate Ken, auto trans specialist, drove mine the other day and made a point of sayiing about backing off on the two/three change as the clutch is too small really for the power.
  18. Dont worry Jock, I understand what your saying, and I agree with you. Where the others are who knows, Just as long as they are happy. LOL
  19. WillieO, the ecu may or may not back off the power somewhat, I dont know, but what I do know is it will not back off the power any where near as much as feathering the throtle, and this does halp the box, especially on the 2 to 3 change, as the 3rd gear clutch is weak. It will prolong the box's life. As for it being a bit slow, I agree, but this can be allowed for. Having said all of that , I dont change manually when I am "going for it" and I am short on time etc. As in when racing.

It was the lack of room that made me try the speakers I use in the back, I had them spare...
  21. Can be a whole lot better for the box as you can back off slightly when you change gear. It is the actual changes that stress the box the most as the clutches/band has to start/stop the particular gear while the engine is trying hard. If you catch my meaning.

OK Powerlord, I can accept what you say about taking the drivers out of their boxes, mine are still in their box, they are fairly small, about 12" high, I have them lying on their side in the boot. I am not running a big amp, just 40wpc, from a JVC head unit. It might be impracticle, but I dont use the car for anythin other than fun so boot space is not an issue. I did think of trying my Mission 704a's , but couldnt be bothered running 240volts to the car to run the active bass drivers. My setup suits me, and it was easy, sounds good etc. Oh and I have 6x9 Alpines in the front doors. :-)
