  1. There is info on this site for converting the brakes to fogs, but a "proper" MOT might not accept them as fog lights, some do, and some dont. I do belive that they should not accept it but many still do. As for going to the docks. The shipping agents will not release the car untill all taxes have been paid, ie 10% import and VAT on top of everthing. I use a forwarding company in Southampton, they charge me £45.00 but the forms are all done right and it is very easy just to pay them (use cash) and let them get on with it. When this has been done you can collect the car. Contact the shipping agents, they will tell you what you have to do, there will also be a invoice from them, my last was £45.00. DO NOT just turn up, without contacting both the agents and a forwarding company, ask the agents who they use, as you will probably be turned away....And contact them asap as I remember them wanting copies of paperwork well before the ship arrives... How long will it take? I have been loaded in just 3-4 hours, and I have sat around all day waiting for HM Customes to sort out the VAT. They sometimes think that the price you have paid is not enough and want to inspect the car, and possibly revalue it, ha ha, as if they know the front from the back. Thats it I think, feel free to ask anything else you can think of and I will do my best.
  2. I changed my jap speedo for a UK one, I am not happy with the idea of converters etc as I have heard thast they can upset the Hicas. Changing the clocks is very easy, and in my case resulted in the speedo reading just 1mph more than the actual speed, which is very good. UK clocks are hard to find though, and expect to pay £100 to £125 for them. "Clocking" the odometer to show the true mileage, not KM's, is easy. However this means that the car is limited on top speed, in my case 125mph. To remove this you need another ECU chip, so I am told.
  3. Sorry, I have just re-read, properly this time, your first qustion, I was thinking for the SVA. I can be stupid.
  4. It has to have repeater indicators, the front indicators need spacing to make them visible at 45 degrees, fog light 250mm from ground and a PROPER fog light, not brake lite conversion etc. After market steering wheels can be a fail, even without holes. Noise, I think 105db is OK, which is very loud. Brakes have to work at a percentage of engine running ability, but with the engine off. Tyres must have speed/load rating and the Jap JS mark or better, I have probably forgotten some things, hope this helps, ask for more info if you want. Sharp edges also fail...
  5. Harve, It was you I saw. Nice car.
  6. Hi, this is the reply form Japan..... Dear Mr. Mark Stevens Thank you for your email. "De-registration" paper is something that can't be re-issued once it get lost. I basically think "original de-registration paper" is more important than actual car. You should ask to get a re-applied registration paper from whoever your friend bought the car from if the original de-registration paper is lost for sure. This looks exactly like the de-registration paper but it just shows that car is registered or de-registered. And then ask them to make English trans for re-applied registration paper. This should solve the problem. Regards, Tsukasa Matsumoto
  7. As it stands at the moment I could make it about 7.30. Thats this Friday???? And do we park and wait for each other? I am a newbie at this meeting up lark.
  8. How do i put a picture of my Z at the end of my messages? I have seen many people with pictures in their messages but dont know how to do it, please help Mark
  9. Seems like the makings of a mini meet at the Crows Nest, I shall put some dates I could go on this evening for your perusal.
  10. How do I place a pic of mine on here? pLease.
  11. I have also imported from Japan, it is my clear understanding that the shipping agents are not allowed, by law, to release the car untill the import and VAT duties are paid. So, this should mean that there is no tax to pay.. The De-reg doc is only kept by DVLA AFTER youhave registered it. And without it I feel you can not register it. Having said that if you built it from a big box of bit i am sure something could be done about regisitering it. If you get stuck I could try a company I use in japan with regard to information on a replacement de-reg cert. I dont know them very well and they might say no, but it might work if you get desperate.
  12. Right, now that there are so many of us I thnk its time for an "Aylesbury Area Chapter" of 300zx's. I wonder who's the car was I saw though? BTW, Nice car....
  13. Sounds good, I will contact you as soon as I know what I am doing, is your email address on this site? if not please send it. Thanks, Mark Ps might be free over this weekend, how does that sound, provisionally?
  14. Hi, maybe we can meet up sometime. I dont drive mine too much as there is not much room at home, 3 cars there allready, and I am busy. I have not done anything much to mine apart from oil and filter etc so no I dont know anyone local, having said that, a friend works with a guy who was trained by Nissan as a specialist on 300ZX's. I am going to find out more, I will post it as/if/when I do. My email is Mark@a555.fslife.co.uk
  15. Hi, spotted a very nice looking, black Z yesterday am, going through Bedgrove. Short number plate and round rear lights. It looks very, as in very, similar to mine and I thought someone had stolen mine. Thought about ramming you to stop you getting away for a second, but I was teaching, LOL (driving instructor)...
  16. Not for security I feel as it is not on any others, and it has been put on in strips, about 3 I think. If nothing turns up, ie reason for it, I will remove it as it makes the window look slightly dirty even when its clean. i passing, anyone who has not run their import on Optimax/Super unleaded, try it soon, I have just and it is better. Cant tell the diff between opt and super though,...
  17. Thanks, but, does it DO anything? Like is it a UV block or something? Anyone?
  18. Hi, my Z, 1993 series 3, imported from Japan, has a clear film on the inside of the rear window, is this normal?
  19. And if its less than 10 years old you need an SVA.
  20. I do agree with some of what you say, but as long as they "tow the expected line" and just talk, nothing will happen.. I wish I knew what to do because I dont. And I suppose I should not knock them too much becasue they are doing their best, for what its worth. But you say, Dave, that they are up against the likes of Green Peace etc, this is true, so how can the motorist, or anyone like the ABD fight on their (G/Peace etc) terms? Doing it this way only plays into the hands of Red Ken etc. It is a language they iunderstand very well. Answer, we cant. So we should fight in a way that they cant cope with. Direct action. Like the French. The Motorists in this country will always be ripped off until we say "No More" and mean it. The ABD? They would say, " Excuse me, no more, please, Oh, well, can we talk about it then?" I am not saying there should be any violence or damage to property.
  21. Thanks for the support Paul, I thought I was on my own. And as you say, £20.00 to a bunch of losers who have allready proved to be almost, I did say "almost", a waste of time is, a waste of money. I spent a lot of time on a forum some years ago trying, with others, to get a demonstration (peaceful) of our irritation with the Governments policy, and if I remember correctly an ABD man po poohed it, shortly afterwards it started falling apart and I left. IMHO, the ABD is too near to being political, hence their attitude and methods. IE talk, talk talk talk, and did I say talk? And talk is cheap, just listen to me!
  22. Tim, dont worry about the insult. You, and a few others at least, disagree with me, this is OK. I was at the stage you are when I joined, and I have changed my mind is all, because I see no gain. I do actually hope I am wrong. As for stopping the M25, I dont for a minute think it was ideal, BUT, complaining and moaning will simply get ignored by the politians because they dont give a damm. If we all stopped, and I mean every motorist, where ever we were at say midday. for just 5 minutes, on a Saturday, then they would start to take notice. Want an example? Look at France. They dont take any Sh*t. We, as a nation, do. Shame.
  23. Trev, In a couple of years the motoring taxes will be what ever they are regardless of the ABD. I thought they were worth a try, (actually it was about three years ago I joined), and looking at them now they have got no further. Where were they when the fuel protests were happening? IF I remember correctly, and I am not sure I do, they were saying the protest were not the right way of bringing the matter to a desirable conclusion. The only way the government will listen is for the motorists to block the roads like the truckers tried to do, and yes I was driving an artic round the M25 at 10mph, more than once. IMHO. As I said at the bigininng, I thought they were worth a try, and I was wrong, might be now too. We will find out in a few years time.
  24. Tim, Thanks for the personal attack. Water and ducks comes to mind. What have I done? I joined and watched what they did and thought better of it the next time. Which in my opinion gives me the right to comment. What have you done?
  25. Dave Marley, the reason they are small is because they dont do enough and people see this, or dont see what they do do if you like, nor will they ever while they bump along the bottom waiting for "new members" to save them. Be better tomorrow when we get more members. They are too soft and the Government laugh at them, and always will. I am not saying they dont do anything, but if you look at the few interviews they do give they are treated the same by the media. They need a figure head, someone famous like Jeremy Clarkson perhaps, who will stand up and get noticed, and then the motoring public might get behind them. And they have had many years to get up to speed if they wanted but I dont think they see the need. As for the AA and RAC, they have never truly represented the motorist.
