  1. Running from park to first would make no difference to the oil level, as the gearbox goes into first wether its in drive or first. Park is neutral, but with a mechanical link to stop the car moving. Your problem MIGHT be that as you had just thrashed it, and the oil does expand as it gets hot and you might have got it very hot and so it might have leaked out of the breather as a result. Heres hoping. Check the level, as has been said and short of any more leaks you might try it and see. Important that the level is correct.
  2. A friend had her Golf GTi serviced regularly by VW, one service she was told she needed new pads and discs, she said to leave it as she suspected this was wrong. And it was, the next garage said discs were fine and pads only 40% worn. Make of that what you will. Another friend had an N reg Punto serviced by local Fiat dealer (dont ask me why) 4 weeks after passing MOT at same garage, only to be told it needed £600.00 worth of repairs, including brakes that were in serious need of looking at. So how did it pass MOT? Again, make of that what you will.
  3. Thanks Andy, If I remember it does have a semi see through type of sticky label with a hand written JWT on it now you mention it, dont know about the serial number though, but I didnt look very hard either.
  4. OK, latest instalment. car now runs smoothly, but the tickover is low, so low it can stall when you put it in drive. I am going to take it for a run and listen to it etc, get it nicely warmed through and see. I guess it could be coincidence that the tick over is low, it OK when cold. Is the chip supposed to have JWT "properly" marked on it and a serial number? Because it seems to have no number and JWT looks like it just been engraved/scratched by hand. Not implying anything Mantav8 just trying to sort everything out and get as much info as I can. Thanks again everyone.
  5. Well yes they did a right crappy job, my brother gave them the ecu today, and after a while, dont know how long exactly, hey presto, it works. Trouble is I still have a soldered chip when I asked for a socket, and I dont trust it and or them. I will probably wait a little while and see. TBH I would rather start again, but short of punching them I dont see them forking out for a new ECU now that my car runs.
  6. Thanks Andy, I might take you up on that offer. Another twist, my brother put my ECU on another Z, only for it to run OK?????. So the chip obviously not scrap, BUT, I fear there is an inconsistant fault. probably due to a dry joint? There is still the matter of them not putting the chip in a socket as I asked. I am going to try my ECU again, but even if it works I will never trust it fully.......The saga continues. And I am not really sure what to do.......
  7. I have had enough of these cowboys and so am not even entertaining anything more from them other than money to fix my car, they broke it after all. My instructions were clear, "Remove old chip, fit socket and new chip" They soldered the new chip in, as I said last night, and the joints look very ropey and some are very "dry" looking. Simply put it looks a right mess. So with this in mind I feel they have messed up so badly that its all their fault. Thanks for all of your help people. By the way I emailed JWT and they agree with the type of comments on this thread, ie cooked chip or broken ECU....
  8. the idiot soldered the chip in instead of putting it in a socket as i asked. As for putting the chip in the correct ay round, i dont know... Thanks for the offer mantav8, but i am positive it is their doing
  9. My brother is speaking to them tomorrow to see if they stand up and act in an honourable fashion. I hope so, otherwise their name gets plastered here and every where else I can and I will pay them a visit. Its true that they should have not let the car go out, which makes me feel they are already covering their back sides. Still, we will see. Thanks everyone for posting. I will let you know.
  10. Thanks for that, I "feel" its the fitting too...
  11. Hi All, I have just had a JWT chip fitted by a local Jap Tuning firm, nothing else yet at all. They came recomended but who really knows. Anyway, it now runs so weak that it stumbles when moving off, the ECU warning light is on all the time, and this is funny, the aircon fan is on all the time, and when applying the brake lights something like a relay rattles down near the ECU too. I gave them a perfectly good car, they had to fit the chip only, and now its a mess. Actually my brother took it to them as they rent the workshop off him, I would not have taken it away, but thats another thing. Anyone have any ideas? The chip came from this forum recently, might it be faulty? Or did the fitters cock it up? Any ideas would be great before I shout at the garage. Thanks
  12. Hi, there is a Z for sale, reg number L518DFD, blue with ZEEMAX on the front after market bumper, look like 17/18 six spoke alloys...Anyone know the history or ex owner of this car?
  13. I am nicking my sons boost gauge, he doesnt know yet. Thanks everyone.
  14. What size jets shall I start with?
  15. I see, thanks for that, I understand now.
  16. OK, I think I might use him to socket it, only becasue he is local, and he does do this type of work. He wants £40.00 to do it, inc removing the ecu from the car and making sure it runs OK afterwards. Does this sound about right? I would like to use someone form here but are they local to me? Buckinghamshire. And, when its done, what size migs tips shall I start with? I dont want an unreliable car just a bit extra, I was thinking 12 to 13 ish? As in PSI. On the JWT site it shows a manual boost controller as well as restrictors, I ask because I dont see how a restrictor cuts down presure, sure it will slow it down but it will get to the same sooner or later.
  17. Thanks, thats what I thought, so does this mean he is a Wa**ker? I wonder.
  18. Hi, I have just been given a JWT chip by my son who bought it from the forum, question is, I have spoken to a firm about soldering a socket into the ECU, and they say with this chip the boost is upgraded WITHOUT any controller or boost mig tips ect. He expects about 14 psi from it. Is this right?
  19. And thanks for the gasket Smithy, I borrowed one and replaced it when yours arrived Sat am. Thanks.
  20. Hi, this is Mark Stevens, just in case any of you noticed I am registered twice, once as me and once as Jocob. Reason, my son bought a JWT chip for my birthday, and he didnt want me knowing so he registered as Jacob. sorry for any confusion.
  21. HI All, my son fitted it no prob, so I have the right one luckily, he said it went straight on. Thanks everyone.
  22. And check it engine running, warm and in park........
  23. Thanks Simon, I have sorted it. I managed to find someone I used to use. He normally does Ferraris etc, he does know his stuff, I had to hunt for him but all is well. If anyone needs his services let me know.
  24. Hi, no not a Z, its a 01 Vectra for my wife. I used to deal in salvage but have lost touch. It doesnt really need the "jig" part, more of a bench because its damaged in a slightly difficult place for a dozer. Thanks....
  25. Hi, I am in Aylesbury and I need someone to pull (Jig) a car for me, must have a bench/jig, a dozzer is not good enough. Anyone know someone? Thanks
