Chaps and chapettes, hope your all good and read this in the best of health, I might encounter some bias here but I'm in a dilemma, was going to see a GTO tomorrow after having sold my FTO recently when I thought 'why don't I buy a 300zx?!' After having this though my mind has gone into overdrive and I don't know whether to go see the GTO tomorrow for which I had the cash ready!

Basically I need to ask this - which is better aesthetically in your opinion -answer with no bias =/ Also I kinda know my stuff about the GTO in terms of economy and insurance, do you think these 2 will be much different with the z? Mucho gracias quick response required to win me over to your side!! Bless

Starion's are well cool aint seen one in a long time though:(

reminds me of the Toyota AE-86 in a way but Starion is much better to look at!

I saw my first starion about 3 months ago in white near my works. Never seen one and thought what's that? got closer.... starion(stallion?) was a very bold looking car in not too bad nick either

compared to a zed my GTO i once owned nearly allways put me to sleep it was that bland and boring to drive...when i was in the mood for a spirited blast the 4wd system just took the fun out of it. Looks wise with it being a red one it looked fantastic polished up but just could not deliver in the fun department. Got on the long road of zed ownership and the car felt and drove like it was half its weight and put my faith back into jap cars:)

BTW, for the record, when I originally went to test drive my Z with Richard Smith and Gio, Richard and myself came back onto a dual carriage-way and what should appear alongside....yup, a GTO TT. I think his car was a little poorly. Bit of blue smoke, but even then, I completely left him for dust. When he did catch up, he roared past with a nice trail of blue smoke coming out of it as I pealed off.

the GTO VR4 is as fast as an R33 GTR, so lets forget that model lol

Pretty sure the VR4 is just the American name for the GTO Twin Turbo.

Incorrect. VR-4 was something like 320bhp over the stock 280. VR4s come with a large rear spoiler too, so look different from normal TTs.

nope, just checked gto forum...all GTO's TT's are VR-4 according to them.

...ignore. I was checked out JDM models. Yes, US spec cars were VR-4. They didn't get the lesser powered TT models. I think their lineup was something like the 12v twin cam V6 with 160bhp, the 24v V6 which was over 200 and the VR-4. In Japan, VR-4 was a different model as you could get either 280bhp or the VR-4 which produced 320bhp

ok, have read several threads now on gtouk.... and is a common misconception apparantly.

Its just a U.S thing for the TT models with 4wd, as they had base models too over there.

No VR-4 designation for Uk or Jap models.

Only difference is GTO = Jap, 3000GT = UK (like 300zx and Fairlady for us)

UK models are said to be 320hp, and Jap models 280hp. Gentlemans agreement and all that apparently, but most say they are all same HP.

Destiny ! lol

was considering a gto until i had one in for an mot first thng i noticed was lack of space inside car z has plenty of arm/leg room, head room as well gto felt very cramped and roof was just about on my head, gto looked like it would be a pain to work on as well, owner let me take it for a spin, didnt feel as quick as the z. end result is z is now undergiong a full rebuild. gto is a good enough motor but z puts a bigger smile on ya face.

lets chuck the NA and Auto models out the window, they are the lesser model, you wont get the full potential of the car of these models

Although im not sure what bhp a n/a gto is i know the z has 223bhp as standard so i wouldn't take em out of the equation altogether

just depends what kind of performance you want i'm very happy with my n/a auto and it would leave my modded 328i for dust and its standard

although i have been a passenger in a tt and would like to get 1

for the min i just plan to get my n/a's performance up a bit with a few tastefull mods:)

each to there own :D

I saw my first starion about 3 months ago in white near my works. Never seen one and thought what's that? got closer.... starion(stallion?) was a very bold looking car in not too bad nick either

iv'e always liked em just wish u seen up for grabs more often unsure on what litre they where released in i'd certainly consider 1 as a 2nd car if it didnt suck the juice ive got the z 4 that:rofl:

The pop up head light GTO is 280bhp, the face lift model with a 6 speed box is 320bhp and statistically they are still not quite as quick as the UK Zed TT.

Me and my friend did much research into the GTO before he bought one 3-4 months ago.

AFAIK, the only 2wd GTOs were in the US....and they were FWD!!!!!

GTO was also sold by Dodge as the 'Stealth'. Fortunately, although in later years, Mitsubishi incorporated the Dodge's V6 12valve engine with a miserable 160bhp, it never made it into any Japanese or UK models.

Some parts of me like the GTO, others don't. I have a friend with one (Twin Turbo) and it's a great car for what it is. I don't like the interior and from some angles it looks a little odd. Lots of ugly plastic bits stuck all over the body. They have pretty good road presence, low, wide, squatt.

I seem to see less GTO/3000GTs than Z32s now.

Wouldn't say no to this. VR4 is the model to have really. Although it wasn't my list of cars before choosing the Z, I looked through them and thought about their potential.

If I was going to buy some sort of GT/Sports car from Mitsubishi, then it would have to be the Starion. Always liked the appearance of this car. Not the quickest thing in the world and it doesn't handle as well as it could, but it's so retro-cool!

BTW, if the red car at WRC is still for sale, stay well clear, we viewed this one and it is very rough indeed! Beware.

A very good freind of mine got killed in starion lost it on a bend and hit a police car they said at the inqest it had a fault with the brakes that caused it to lose control

each to there own on car choice in my oppinion.. but as for insurance.. im 22 with a jap TT zed .. less no claims than you and i pay £567 fully comp with £300 excess ;) .. but my insurance company love me :D

I remember it well.........he only caught up as Si slowed down to turn off....

Plus I also remember those rather nice student girls we passed along the way;)

Richard:D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
