Looks like some fairly heafty green taxes will hit us sooner or later.

I wonder what they'll be and if it'll increase the cost of Zed ownership much?

Why do they always need more money to do something, rather than use the money they have more appropriately ?

its non-sense and pointless....1 erupting volcano can chuck out more CO2 in 1 day than the whole industrialised world can in a year....that is not to mention all the holes mines and fissures in the ground which also vent CO2 in huge amounts...anything we do to cut emissions is just going to be a fraction of a fraction and will cost trillions....i'd rather we put the money into healthcare or new technology to grow foodstuff in different conditions...trouble is you wont hear many ecologists or scientists bringing up this point as it means they wont get funded for their research into global warming for the next 20-30 years

Lets not forget those evil cows whose constant farting contributes lots of gases to the atmousphere!

I am for lots of nuclear power, wind farms in people's back gardens. But the environmentalists are motivated by their pathetic middle class guilt of having money.

There is technology being developed to take the carbon out of the atmousphere and pump it under the ocean. A not huge 13 cubic miles is needed to handle all the world's carbon emmisions per year.

If the world really is in trouble, maybe we should do our bit by using our big cars a little less?

Yes other people need to make an effort too but it doesn't mean we shouldn't.

I cycle to work and only use mine on the weekend, maybe once a week. Im doing my bit. But what do I get for it, fook all. I pay the same road tax as someone using it everyday. There needs to be more insentives to produce less sh1t into the atmosphere.

b*****ks to that!! :p

As has been seen in the past, I am not sure the government will penalise those who already have cars past a certain date. IE, they'll impose taxes on new gas guzzlers so that consumers can make an informed choice when buying new.

The percentage of cars older than 10 years old is quite low compared to that of newer cars.

That's the way I see it anyway.

Do you really tghink that this little island we live on is going to make a difference to the global effort. I work in the power indusrty and I have been to places like Brazil and Thialand where they don't give a sh1t about CO2 emmissions. We are saving a few grammes here and there but they are spewing it into the atmosphere like there's no tomorrow.

If the government are so bothered then perhaps they should be ferried around at our expense in a Toyota Prius instead of those gas guzzling limos.

Makes my blood boil. Tax upon tax upon tax and always the same people who pay more and suffer.

I'm boiling now!.

We have become rich during the last two centuries in which we have been damaging the environment. Yes developing nations are causing more polution right now but we can't really tell them to stay poor now we're rich and have already fooked the planet.

Yes other nations need to sort their act out but that doesn't mean we shouldn't make changes too.

Someone needs to lead by example.

Some politicians have mentioned cutting income tax and raising environmental taxes - so it's not just more tax (I hope!) but different taxes.

you can stop boiling and vote tory now

:D

I can't stand David Cameron.

Strange how saving the planet goes hand in hand with giving the government more money!

Again I suspect the working man will be penalised and the really rich will still do what they want!

What really bothers me is how they are making the individual feel guilty for things like leaving the TV on standby.

1. There is nothing wrong with wasting electricity as long as the electriciy has been produced in an environmentally friendly way. - Why haven't the government ploughed loads of money into wind farms? this would not only help the environment, it would help secure the economy in the future instead of relying on the import of gas.

2. Why hasn't a TV manufacturer produced a standby switch that actually works? How hard can that be?

3. I read somewhere that 1 transatlantic flight can do as much damage to the ozone layer as 10,000 cars in their lifetime. Something to do with the gases being released at that altitude.

Planes are bad, mmmkay.

4. Where are all these extra tax monies going to be spent? What will extra taxes achieve?

Rant (temporarily) over...

Personally think that the government should invest more in nuclear fuels.

I'm doing my bit - I've not driven my Zed for 6 months

I've covered a whopping 5,000 miles in mine since owning it. That's been over a year.

The tax on fuel already does its part in disuade me from using it on a daily basis...but the weather also has an equal factor.

But why is it just us that have to keep paying up while the yanks keep chucking polutants into the atmosphere with no guilt. Surley they shoud come under some sort of green rules by now !!

That's what the Kyoto agreement is for, but, unlike most international states, Bush won’t signed up to it.

International pressure through actions by other countries, namely Britain is supposed to persuade him by being the leading force.

We will all be long long dead by the time it starts to cause real problems so who gives a shit

I can't stand David Cameron.

And heres the problem, people vote for the appearance of the guy at the front rather than the party. So you'd rather have a geezer in charge and be taxed to death???

This is true - BUT this government are just intent on taxing everything that moves. They will not just be honest and raise direct taxes, they just bring in new "stealth taxes" so we don't realise we're being ass-f#cked :xxx:

Classic example is the climate change levy, charging us VAT on domestic power. Well hang on, some electricity is from nuclear power stations and they DON'T give off CO2.........

Plus tax on car ownership is just another wealth/liberty tax. Cars only contribute a very small percentage of CO2 gas anyway - it's big industry that is the greatest polluter. Look at China now, their growing economy is causing tons of CO2 getting released into the atmosphere. Yet all Blair & co want is to stop the British people from using their cars period.

Ignorant tossers

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

they aint got a clue what to do so it seems to make it look like they are doing somthing they will put some more tax's on stuff lol they are all :xxx: im gonna drive my car as much as i want till big industry an othe counrtys do something too
