Just a quick one for anyone who’s looking for insurance quotes in the near future.

I just spent a bit of time on the phone reading out the spec of my car in order to get a new quote, to which I was asked the question “are you planning on taking the car on track?” , to which I replied “yes, maybe once or twice a year”.

Their reply was “Sorry we cannot offer you cover as you plan on taking you car onto a track”. My response was “I could take any private car on track, what’s the difference here?” To which I couldn’t get a straight answer.

I’ve never had this issue before, and frankly I think it’s ludicrous!

So a warning to those, if you’re asked if you take your car on to a track, regardless of how infrequently that may be, they may refuse to cover or quote you

All insurance providors will not payout for incidents on a track.

Were you expecting to be covered for track use ?

No, but they shouldn't refuse insurance because you plan to take part in trackdays.

Footman James offered me additional track day insurance, at a cost of corse. Thier classic policy also includes shows and parades etc as long as it's an organised event...

Correct. I wasn’t asking for track day cover, just normal private vehicle insurance. They wouldn’t offer me a quote or cover purely because I planned on doing one or two tack days next year

Well aware of that mate. Wasn’t asking for track cover to be included or anything. Just wanted normal private vehicle insurance. They refused to quote purely on the basis that I said I may take my vehicle on track at some point during the length of the policy.

Their modified policy includes Track Day/Rally cover as a benefit:

Were you seeking a quote under their Classic policies?

No buddy, I hadn’t specified what type of policy I was after. From previous experience I’ve not been eligible for classic policy due to the extensive modifications to the engine, never because of how I plan to use the car

Strange this. As said above, most insurer exclude track cover o. The certificate

I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:

I was with Lancaster insurance for one year, they sent me the renewal letter, so I rang them up to barter with them a bit and when i told them it was a 300zx, they said sorry we dont cover that car! I said you do as ive just been covered for the passed year! They said they had changed what cars they covered and they wouldnt cover me. she then said "is there anything else I can help you with?"

I rang up footman james and havent looked back since. I have a classic 5000 mile policy with drive to work added, its got an agreed valuation and if the car is written off, they give it back to me for free. I can do the occasional track day too, all for £261/year... bargin!

Really....??

Of all the usual classic insurers, and not just because they are a trader here, I always found Lancaster the best. Adrian Flux is "hit and miss" at best (sorry, just my personal opinion); Carole Nash was very good, many others like Hagerty, Peter Best et al are fine - but Lancaster just seemed so much better.

The only reason I did not renew with Lancaster this year, was because Admiral (with whom our daily drivers are insured) offered to give me a classic policy on my multi-car package for a similar price; but also knocked ££s off the other cars' premiums.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Adrian flux were pretty bad when I was with them and at the end of the year my renewal quote was £300 more than I had paid with them the previous year! Thats why I shopped around and went with lancaster. My renewal with footman james is coming up soon, so ill see what they are like!

Yes,

Loads, I had to send them about 30 or so pictures to cover everything I did along with all my current receipts.

Everything from the new wheels, suspension, new rubbers all round, interior, engine, new spray job, all the arms for suspension linkage etc

I currently have an agreed valuation of 10k for the build i'm doing as its not complete, after which its to be re-evaluated.

When I rang to get a quote for my car you couldn't even offer me a policy, with no real reason given........

Lancaster got my business last year and will most likely insure with them again this year.

Hi Dan, I’m afraid I have to echo what others people say here, Adrian Flux are too expensive. I’ve tried with several cars and you are through the roof with your quotes, don’t get me wrong there are many insurance companies who are tw*ts about cost but that’s insurance companies for you, I have to fight and argue and moan and whinge any time one of my vehicles needs insurance, the fact I’m charged 12% extra which is handed straight over to the government winds me right up, and it’s up to the companies whether they suck it up or charge it on to the customer, oh and they do send that tax on to the customer ! Thanks for that, don’t I pay enough tax on fuel, road fund license and wear and tear on my car driving on what can only be described as a third world countries bombed airstrip. I personally hate insurance companies and their bulls**t “your not familiar with the car” or “ the reason your policy has increased is because of uninsured drivers” or “unfortunately due to terrorism we have to charge more” funny how the shareholders are still living the life of Riley isn’t it !! Sorry this is NOT directed at you Dan, just the deceit that is insurance in general. Rant over for now

Seeing as people are chatting about AF...

When I bought my first Zed back in 2013, AF wouldn't insure me because I "had no experience of such a powerful car." Coming from a 200bhp Celica, I concede they had a point.

When I changed to my current SWB and the cover was up for renewal, I tried AF again for a quote. Weirdly, I still had "no experience of such a powerful car!" When I pointed out that I'd been driving a Z32 for over a year already, the reason changed to me "not having enough experience of such a powerful car"...

Over 4 years of driving Zeds later: no issues or accidents or anything along those lines. Wonder if I have enough experience yet....?

Well said, the bombed out runways made me smile, not car related but my home Building and contents insurance in England had got to around £300 with Morethan insurance having slowly climbed from £220 over 6 year period. Then out of the blue my renewal went up to £650 !! I rang and was told it was because the area I lived in the risk had been changed due to a high level of claims....... I asked if he knew the area I lived in and if not had he checked it out he said he knew Birmingham well and that it was a city so you have to expect rises I was stunned by his incompetence, I actually lived in Warwickshire in the country side in a hamlet of less than 60 people, I told him this but he said his hands were tied ?? ... I cancelled the auto renewal and went on line on Morethan`s own site and got reinsured through them again for £295 ?? beggars belief the way the insurance companies operate..., crooks most of them

Jeff

On a side note, my home and car insurance is significantly less expensive in Portugal !

The fact that Portugal has a smaller economy than Catalan Spain alone may have something to do with this.
