So whats the furthest everyones traveled for the cheapest of parts within the UK ?

At the weekend i traveled from Troon to nearly Aberdeen to collect a replacement rear bumber for my zed.

And it cost me £10.

Thats just over 170 miles and 3 hours 20 minutes to get there.

Great sites coming back on the coastal route mind you so well worth the £10.

200 miles each way from Stafford to Isle of Sheppey, for 1 aircon rad, found to be duff when I got there, never ever again.

200+ miles to get a tailgate that was £0.00 and was in fantastic shape.

Can't get a better bargain than that!

Well, it wasn't really the sellers fault, I had to take it off the car as well, and it was zero cost, simply the seller thought it was A1, the truth however was somewhat different !

Not true...you came to my house for the bargain of the century:yes:

Eastbourne to somewhere in Essex for a light bar,

Eastbourne to Wigan for some decats (ebay winner at £1.68, yes you read that right!)

Eastbourne to Keighley for a car and again for some bits.

But the winner was actually my friend. A few years ago he won a 406 coupe on ebay from belfast.

We got up at 4am, got a lift to gatwick, flew to belfast, collected the car, took a ferry from belfast to stranragh and then drove home. we got back just after midnight.

I know a car isnt techincally a part, but he won the car for £100 and it ended up becoming parts!

I did a 620 mile round trip to Brian's house once, but there's more to that that it reads so that's a little misleading.

Bloody hell Stephen is that what you drove that day...I feel guilty now not giving you a bed for the night:blush:

Like I say it's a bit misleading I actually drove 160 miles one day, to one location, then over 100 to yours, a 100 back. Then the following day I drove the 170 miles home. So whilst the whole round trip was 620 miles to yours it was spread over three days and punctuated by actual work.

It's still beaten hands down by my 17 hour round trip where I spent 1 hr on site in Endinbourgh, long day that. I do get up to some funny stuff to be fair. I love coming home from the Netherlands though as if I fly I land before I left...magic.

Drove two hours there and two hours back for a plastic oil dipstick for €20.

Still cheaper than buying from Renault (****ers).

Talking of 406 Coupes I sold mine in a similar way, guy got a coach down overnight from Glasgow to London then trained to Reading for the 165k mile beaten up old thing, then obviously had to drive back. Could hear the brakes screaming in the distance for about 5 minutes after he left, they were sooooo loud! I advertised the car truthfully, in no way worth it!!

would have been cheaper to call a local spark and get them to do it.

The company that owns my work also have an engineering firm and our engineers have traveled 6+ hours to turn a plug on

that some idiotic staff member unplugged to get the phone charger working.

Happens all the time.

Not for a part but i once travelled 14 hours there 14 hours back to fit a light switch for work

Just found out the full story of the engineers trip :

He was called to a job in Skye up north as the till system and wifi went down.

Over 6 1/2 hours to get there to discover that a switch had been unplugged by the cleaner to use the hoover.

The engineer had to stay a night up there and travel back the next day.

As we're diversifying into non zed related parts, I once flew on a Learjet to Malta with a tiny 6/32 screw with a value of less than a pound. It took 30 seconds to install the screw, 3 minutes to complete the paperwork. I then I got back on the Learjet to come home but was diverted (over Paris) to an airport in Poland where I had to sign a piece of paper!

12 round trip, 5000+ miles travelled, the flight crew estimated £17,000 in fuel, plus their wages and my wages, plus whatever landing and other fees were involved!

How about the cup of tea you made from a stationary jet just by firing up its APU? Most expensive cup of tea ever I think!?

This is everyday for me. I regularly do stuff like this. Travelled to Rotterdam to fit a switch a few years back. Often do 8 hour round trips for operator error like this.

Ladies and gents we have a winner.

Not the furthest distance for something on here but a horrible long drive either way.

I travelled from Chorley to Sheffield (just over 90miles) and back for my wheels. Unfortunately the time that suited me and the seller was one evening after I finished work. Took me 3.5 hrs to get there. Set off at about 4pm and didn't get home until after 10pm. To make it worse my front brake caliper stuck on my Vectra on the way there too!

Horrible drive but we'll worth it as I picked up my unmarked Rays forged 350z wheels with brand new Falken tyres for £300!

The tyres were for a 350z but I managed to put my Continental tyres on and sell the Falkens for £200 so quite a good deal in the end:)
