The driver's side under dash vent was missing (not factory installed) on my UK car and I'm pretty sure it is not on imports either

(possibly only early 89 cars). The vent installs below the steering wheel on the lower trim and when not present normally has a

plastic cover in its place.

The part itself is NLA from Nissan (part #68905-51E02) and mine came from a breaker in the States which a fellow Z32 owner

sent over to me - thank you.

The install just involves cutting the ducting where the raised section is with a sharp knife and fixing a small piece of foam on the

back of the panel to provide a seal when the panel is back in place. The vent is adjustable to point at the feet or alternatively at

the crotch which is handy on a hot day!

My vert came with this fitted, but its not adjustable, kind of aims at my knees, so doesnt cool either of the hot bits

Cool, never seen one fitted. Does it work well? Guessing not looking at what Ian put lol

Funnily enough I spotted one on a breaker that I was taking the dash from Saturday. Thought it was a little unusual seeing as my Zed didn't have one.

Hmmmmm, heads off to garage to check if it is adjustable, cool balls here we come

Interesting read Andrew :thumbup1:

Indeed.....

.....I remember having the "groin-cooler" on my Mk3 Supras - and being disappointed at seeing the blanking plate when I bought my first 300zx....

Good find there mate!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Oh yeah that reminds me, this breaker car also had a different steering wheel. Definitely a zed wheel, looked original but not like anything I've ever seen.

Likely a 96+ non-airbag wheel. They have a strange recess line that runs around the centre of the wheel.

Yeah that sounds about right. Tempted to have it just because it's different and seemingly rare although it's still just as massive as the usual one.

Fancy getting it from the breaker if you go back Dave? I'd happily buy it from you for mine.

I never notice the small things like this or the blueish windows on my car until some anorak here points it out :)

And I guess some imports do have this.

Since we are resurrecting old threads, allow me to quote myself, in this very thread....

Neither of my Zeds came equipped with this option; but, in some cars at least, the Japanese certainly did think of everything....

i installed one in my jdm a year or two ago along with the factory precut duct tube panel and from my research information it was an optional extra you could choose to buy along with all the other options on the z. as for function it serves a purpose and it does make the aircon keep the driver cooler better with this vent installed on hot days as well as warmer on vold days. highly recommend it if you can find one.

They came standand on US model Z32s too. AndrewG has one, I've been on the lookout for one for a while now.

Please see post 18, i have one on the way from the states, my search is over .

Horn covers coming as well :thumbup1:.

To seal mine, i had the foresight a few weeks back to save some decent foam, i did think about neoprene, opted for the foam and a simple fold over with a cut out, works a treat, next time the trim comes out i could tidy, cut down and secure but really there's not much need.
