"Besides, there are better cars out there for the money you guys think I should be spending on one. If I had 5-6k, I'd simply get an evo instead. It's not that far off r33 gtr money either."   Plea

I don't want to seem pessimistic, but lets not get carried away. Until someone views it properly the advert means naff all!

Sure, it reads quite well, but the photos are pretty poor, some clearly taken at different times - see engine bay shots and I'm sure its had a blow over - see wing mirrors.

I do hope to be proved wrong though, but my experience when viewing these cars taught me this.

Fingers crossed its a good one!

A friend of mine was the first owner of this car, it has had a respray and a new engine when it was in his ownership as with all his cars money was no object when he owned it, I did give him a new steering wheel but it looks like he has not fitted it.

This was the first 300zx I ever drove.

What I don't understand is why someone selling a car (any car) can not be bothered to clean it first, take all their crap/rubbish/detritus out, run the Hoover round it and take some half decent photos. The pictures alone put me off, and he's asking 'proper' money for it.

I know the market has improved but that seems expensive to me.

And he left the seat covers on which annoyed me but some people are like that Daffy they havent a clue or they are hiding something.

Lazy

Think it's more of a case of an owner just not having the love for the car and dumping the original photos in perhaps of when he first took ownership.

Shame asking the money but with little care of maximising it.

Where is "STUARTHEFISH"? :shifty:

He's not gonna get this for £1500 or whatever budget he doesn't have!

I'm capable of fixing cars, so there's no guarantee it'll cost loads of money if I buy a cheap one to fix up, just depends what's wrong with it. The only thing I don't want to take on is rust, and a UK model is more likely to be riddled with it unless it's spent it's entire life hidden away in a garage or been repaired already. Even then, there's no guarantee if it's been repaired well or not.

I don't get what's so hard to understand about someone not having a large lump sum up front to throw at an expensive car that may or may not still have hidden issues. If I bought a cheaper one and it did need more later, so what? That's more affordable over time.

As I've said, my maximum feasible budget is around 4-4.5k all in, for a car that genuinely needs no work. And for that I would want a hell of a lot more than a standard one. Hence why I've not even considered this one.

No way am I spending 5k on one!

There's your problem, summed up in one easy sentence... ;)

If you have enough time, patience and luck, you'll probably get what you're looking for. This usually happens when you're not looking! The issue is that these cars have, like lots of others, turned a corner and are now rising and commanding strong money. A lot of the members here giving feedback have experienced restoring/improving/maintaining these motors over a long period (some 10+yrs).

They have been into these cars since they were relatively expensive, then cheap as chips and now they are climbing again. They know the ins and outs of the cars and compared to other hot jap cars of the era, a zed is one of the most complicated and frustrating and potentially expensive cars to own/repair and maintain. There are loads of dressed up dogs out there as you have witnessed yourself and they're not cheap.

The last one I bought is a SWB slicktop manual, volk wheels with new goodyears, big HKS turbos, 3"turbo back exhaust, HKS twin plate clutch, endless zeal coilovers. HKS boost controller, 555 injectors, ECU eetc etc. Only on UK roads for 3 months before dropping compression on one cylinder. Car still started instantly. I paid £500! That was 7.5yrs ago and I came across it when not in the market for one. I will hang onto it for a long time.

But- it was 2007! Not today.

good luck with your quest.

Why are you here? Seriously?

You've come onto a forum for a marque of car that you'd like to own, asking for advice... then just disregarding said advice at every turn!

If you simply want a fast car, buy a Subaru. You can be pretty sure it'll already have been modified to be quicker than standard, they come with rear seats (and rear doors) for your kids and they can be picked up well within your budget.

If, however, you want to buy a sports/GT car where you can also have the benefit of open-air motoring when the weather permits, then you honestly need to start accepting that it's gonna come at a premium now the weather's getting better!

You want to spend £4.5k on a heavily modified Z32 that needs no work whatsoever. How's that turning out for you so far...?

All the Zeds out there that fit your dream description WILL command a higher price than that! That's just a fact. If you don't want to accept that, go and get yourself an Evo or an R33 or whatever else you can pick up for the ridiculous prices that Z32 owners are wanting for their well-maintained, quicker than stock examples.

You say you can fix cars so buying a cheap Zed that needs work isn't a problem, yet you have a Skyline that you either can't or won't fix. The very same Skyline that you offered to give to me should you have bent my Zed during a test drive, although I'm not entirely sure why you thought I'd want or accept a broken Skyline in place of my very nice and perfectly working Zed which is clearly worth considerably more than your broken Skyline. Why not fix your Skyline and drive that while you're still hunting day and night for your dream Zed that only costs peanuts...?

Maybe I'm just speaking for myself here... I don't know. But PLEASE stop coming on here and insulting the owners who put money and time and love into our cars by telling us that they're not worth what we believe they are!!

Face it, the majority of the members on here know far more about Z32s than you currently do. So if they give advice, don't just disregard it flippantly please. Accept that you don't know anywhere near everything and learn from those who know far more than you do.

And with that, I've said my piece. Good luck in your search.

How am I insulting anyone by explaining why I don't want to spend more than my budget on a zed?

I haven't fixed the skyline simply because it wouldn't make it worth much more, it's still worth more in bits, so what would be the point? I don't enjoy the car, and had actually been considering a change for the past couple of years.

Also, not once have I said I expect to find one highly modified one for my budget, but the more mods I can find the better.
