I'm debating on fitting recirc valves back on to the zed (still unsure) where I currently have Apexi twin chamber BOV's.

What I'm wondering is whether I should just be a straight forward swap or if there's a possibility of stuff missing?

Yeah, I've struggled finding leaks (previously) so thought it may have been the BOVs so I decided to have a go with the recircs. As a test if nothing else as I've heard people would sometimes get stalling issues with BOV's. Obviously wasn't that lol.

I do have a boost leak plug so will have to try that again and see if I can find what's going on. I found a leak on the drivers turbo inlet pipe the last time and haven't done another test yet. I'm looking to do one ASAP though.

Post a picture of your engine bay.

The intercooler suggestion may be a good one. Hopefully there's an easy way to look at them

Just as I thought. Although I can't be 100% based on that picture alone, I think you're going to be chasing your tail forever on this one.

Got any more pics of the engine bay? Both sides?

Another common problem ive come across a few times regarding boost leaks and after market side mount intercoolers are jerks using bolts that a too long putting the ducts back on..resulting in bursting into the chambers

  • Author

I'm a little confused by what you mean. The intercooler itself bursting? How can I check that mate?

Right, I've done it. Fitted the recircs. Pita job quite frankly.

Not seen any benefit though as the car still wants to stall... So there's obviously something else a miss

have you done a boost leak test ?

  • Author

Yeah, found a large leak but then fixed that on my drive and haven't done one since.

maybe you could well have some more or one you missed would it not make sense to do a leak test again

does it stall when just ticking over or when driving it is there a point were is stall ie coming off the gas pedal or pressing it ?

  • Author

I will definitely be doing it again mate. It stalls after being on boost and dropping the clutch... Like coming to a junction etc

I was just looking around on us sites there was a guy with a 300zx there tried all kinds had a stall issue turns out to be the maff I wound if you unplugged it and went for a little drive and see if there is any change. I once had a Honda that was missing the car went to loads of places trying to sort it even Honda them selfs couldn't work it out anyhow turns out it was just one of the spark plugs was bad yet all the places it went to couldn't work it out moral of this story is it could well be something very simple indeed

I mean that try and find a spare MAF then. Just don't want to pay loads for it not to be that.

I had to double glance at your user-name then! How the devil are you stranger?

All good thanks mate, still lerk around from time to time. Sadly me beemer doesn't amuse me much lol

Lee peeps often make a mistake in finding a boost leak, fixing it and assume all is done in that regard, so do another test.

Also if you have fitted aftermarket side mounts and fitted the original ducts on as well at the front, it has been known when screwing in the fixings to tighten too much and it puntures the alloy enough to cause a leak.

Some don't fit the ducts at all and with some SMIC wonder why they have a boost leak, it's cos in some cases the duct fixing point needs plugging.

Other than that, in the same area, when new hose joiners have been fitted on new SMIC, a leak can occur.

Let us know how you get on,

Smithy

Of course I will mate. So to check the intercoolers, do I need to take the bumper off or is there a way to access them easily?

Do you still have a zed at all Paul?

Quick update.

I looked at the intercoolers and theclamps etc look tight enough. Ran a little smoke through and it come out next the the drivers turbo outlet. Gonna go through someone house who has a compressor tomorrow I think so I'll get a couple of jubilee clamps before I go.

Any ideas on the approx clamp size? (Greddy ,TD05 turbos)
