"You picked a fine time to leave me, Loose Wheel!" - Mondo's new Zed.

Yesterday saw me head down to Kent to pick up my new Shortie! :D I got on the motorway to come back home about 4pm.

At 9pm, I was safely tucked away... on the hard shoulder of the A1(M) near York with a grand total of 1 wheelnut holding my rear passenger wheel on!!! The other 4 studs decided to shear off while I was in the outside lane - there was an almighty bang, the back-end of the car went completely loose so I had no choice but to dive for the shoulder! :(

The recovery truck arrived at 11pm and I slowly edged my new tripod onto the flatbed, before we headed off back to mine.

Spoke to Mr F this morning and he's ordered me 10 new rear studs, so my new car is currently undrivable. Seems it had cheap slot-on spacers on the back, no spigot rings and the end result was 4 wheelstuds missing.

Gotta love Zeds, eh...?!

I feel like we've been here before... nevertheless, here (at long last!) are my second set of Brembo calipers back from the paintshop:

These are from an Evo 8 and, with the help of a pair of adaptor brackets, I'll be able to run a pair of 350mm discs up front. :)

The pistons are absolutely fine so I'll be reusing them. All new seals are ready to fit and they now have new stainless bleed valves.

I'm honestly hoping that this will be the last upgrade to the front brakes... :innocent:

Just like mine .

I didn't even know you had bigger brakes on your car, Andy!

All being well, this new brake setup should be on the car by the end of today. :) I've been so busy with work (16 hour shifts every day!) that it's just been impossible, but I'm determined to get the damn things sorted this weekend!

Get the pics up pal, 16 hour days!!! :scared: that's what I like to hear :whistling::innocent::lol:

Bit of a *****cks day, really.

Partway through fitting, it turns out that I have to cut a sizeable chunk of metal off the hub - just above the upper mounting lug - so the adaptor brackets will fit.

Then it turns out that the fitting on my current brake lines isn't deep enough for the Evo calipers! So whilst I can screw it in, it doesn't seal... so my car is currently on axle stands at work and I need to spend yet more money...!! :(

But here's what things look like fitted anyway. If nothing else, the brakes no longer look completely lost within the wheels...

What a day.....

Should be Andrew yeah.

I seem to recall this lump thing being removed off the hub in my mind, but it recall it being like a thimble. Slitting disc and a heartbeat later it was gone.

Is that brake fluid all over the floor Simon [emoji848]

Of course it is.

Is it not a banjo fitting on that caliper type?

It can be either. For example, the 350Z lines I bought to fit the previous Brembos had a 90 degree "standard" fitting - it's this fitting that's too short for these calipers. So I need to buy a pair of Evo lines or get a custom pair made up.

Yeah, it wasn't a huge amount of metal but it still came as a shock that I needed to whip it off!

I must say, they look really well, if not a little lost behind those 19's:whistling:

:innocent:Just saying like:innocent:

Could you not get bigger:whistling: :lol::laugh::thumbup:

If you are getting lines made up then banjos would be my choice.

Evo lines are a banjo fitting as standard so, whether I get a pair of those or get a pair made up, that'll be the fitting :)

NO!!!

Never changing my front brakes ever ever again.......

Should have gone with the 350z brembo, ream out the bolt holes. Job done. I have this setup with DBA5000 2 piece discs and it will stop hard and fast again and again without any fade.

More than enough stopping power without upsetting the bias.

If I keep the car, the rears will (at some point) get upgraded with Evo calipers and 370Z 350mm discs.

I used lines from Drift works, think they were skyline ones. If you look at the site it gives options for brake upgrades iirc. Straight fit.

I used custom made ones with Banjo bolts for my first set and haven't had to change them out with all the different brake calipers due to them being the Banjo fitting:thumbup1: Evo 5-9 braided lines are the same:thumbup1: they're pretty much universal

Got a small local show tomorrow so I thought I'd better give the old girl a bit of love:

And especially for people like Richie, here's what the new front brakes look like now the wheels are back on the floor:

The weather forecast suggests it's going to be really nice tomorrow and, as luck might have it, the show is literally round the corner from my workshop so I might have to indulge in a spot of networking :detective:

It's nice to see her looking all clean and shiny again, I must say. Now I just need to lay my hands on my Autosol for the exhaust......

I've made a (forced) decision now: seeing as even Mike Feeney can't source me a Kaminari rear spoiler and everywhere else involves ludicrous amounts of shipping, I'm just going to keep the Car.Mad one I've currently got and be done with it.

I've just bought a spare dashboard and also been donated a full set of S1 interior panels so I'll be slowly swapping all the plastics over for newly-trimmed ones, once I've actually done the work of course!

Pretty boring update, really...

I think that's a good omen personally. Your current wing looks better than the Kaminari wing.
