1995 Silver Series IV Slicktop Version S - Taking To Another Level

Took many items off my engine and have sent them to a metal polisher just a few miles from me and below are the results of his and my work :cool3:.

This is my aftermarket radiator bracket, it was or is stainless steel but now highly polished. The SLICKTOP plate was made by TwinTurboRich and I've had this powder coated and bolts on with some stainless steel allen capped nuts and bolts.

This is my Tokyo Auto cooling panel, original these come in silver or blue from z32-zone in Japan, mine was silver and the polisher told me it was anodized but now polished up as you can see. The logo was originally silver and riveted on, I drilled these out and had it powder coated, again bolted on using the same attractive stainless bolts.

Then the usual polished up water pipes, these will be used with red silicone hoses and mikalor t-clamps

Finally for this post, had my Altia sills polished, this removed many many scratches incurred from over the years, now I have a mirror finish.

Fantastic work as always Andy, Are you not going to have to strip it out again for your respray??

I am yes but it's been in 'bits' for several months now and i want it complete for a very short while whilst i use it briefly in the next 10 days, then i'll be ripping the guts out of it !!

Andy i should be the last person to be telling you about lighting but imho the plate lights look so much better when they have a nice soft yellow/white glow and not crisp LED type lighting;)

I like the white leds on the plate... Which bulbs did you use Andy?

I'll put a call out Brian and try and get hold of some 20 odd year old dirty bulb globes that block out most if not all of the light, mine are far too clean.

A bit of luck the seller might have some original filament bulbs that have the glass blackened out, go with the globes a treat they will :tt2:.

They were just some i had bought many years ago, something like this link , you need something quite short to fit inside the globes and to then direct the light straight down.

The time has come to start preparing myself for a respray, this time properly and in the comfort of my own garage with time on my side :crying:.

You may notice the 89 lights, these were just temporary as i wanted to sort a few very minor issues out with my genuine 99's .

DSC05429.jpg

Things removed this time that wasn't before.....i know....i know it's a given !!

Delicate strip above the lights, rear wiper motor, the tailgate 4 trims and the aerial cover which is one nut......doh !!!

I then cleaned with wire wool and petrol with a paint brush all the old black butyl sealant, can't have my new 99's fitted on all that old muck :thumbup1:.

This is what happens when you get someone who doesn't care to spray your car, i'll mention again that when i left the car at the aherm......spray shop (i ran out of time) i told him the door handles were just two nuts (door card was already removed by me the same day), he couldn't be bothered and just sprayed over.

The door handle will now be completely stripped down, key barrel out, etc, then handed to my sprayer - a nice clean free from paint gasket will be found for the refit.

DSC05433.jpg

On taking the door rubber seals off, cos i'm doing this properly now, i found some rust, haha....it's coming from a weeping screw head...officially now a breaking thread !!

Oh i'm playing a dangerous game :gun_bandana:

DSC05440.jpg

Can anyone put me up for a while ?

DSC05441.jpg

Looks similar to both the games room and the shed at my house:biggrin: I get it in the ear regularly, how you getting away with that??

I'm going to show the mrs.

She must be away Andy, i cant see her putting up with that, for long anyway

Second that:)....I think Andy has finally put his hand in his pocket and paid for that exotic holiday some where nice and hot for the wife, just so she's out of the way for a few weeks:)

Wife not gone anywhere, she's right behind me on my Zed journey :innocent:.

At Coventry i bought a genuine r/h new tail light from AndrewG, today i took delivery of the l/h to match .

DSC05461.jpg

Added this to my basket at the same time, well it was rude not to .

What did i do to my zed today, well probably about ten years ago mine as had an impact on the l/h side and 'repairers' have lost parts or just couldn't be bothered because they're not seen , anyhow i have sourced and put back the black triangular plastic cover thing (top of pic), the bumper bracket bracket was also missing (middle of the pic slightly obscured) so this has now been fitted and a oem bolt found, the intercooler metal support was bolted into the brackets bolt hole so this was turned 180 and moved up one.

I do have fyi thanks to Lee Dent a totally straight complete l/h side headlight bucket if need be.

Just a bit of surface rust on the bumper bracket, i'll wire wheel this back and treat....these do rot.

The r/h bumper bracket bracket has never been used in my ownership although unlike the l/h side it was there, mainly down to the fact it's oem bolt was there broken and rusted in the thread on the bumper bracket, this now has been drilled out, tapped and again a nissan bolt found.

All makes life easier for when i rebuild, not to mention everything will be as it should be, it's nice and even enjoyable doing all these little niggles .

More little jobs done, one altia sill needed repairing so that's been done.

Not very exciting i know but below and amongst the dust we see my relay for the diode flash mod, now it is a new 40amp waterproof one, these come with a male and female plug plus 6 inch of wire tails to solder to - much tidier than the older ones where the wires get crimped, then finished off with a 6mm trim fastener .

DSC05495.jpg

And below we see my arch liners, these were all scrubbed with soapy water yesterday and today satin black applied, looking swell methinks.

Also in the pic please note.......because i have a slicktop the 2 x long roof/windscreen trims, i have removed all the coats of paint that were on these so my sprayer can have a blank canvass

My wiper arms are sound but paint flakes off and with me keep touching them up with whatever black i have to hand, well it's just got more and more untidier, there were a few other not perfect areas as well.

So i have attacked them right back to metal and it'll be another part that will be done in satin black at the paint shop :thumbup1:.

They're steel with an aluminium base it seems, here's a mid work piccy..........

DSC05516.jpg

  • Author

Because the aluminium base is soft, the wire wheel i used to clean off the flaky paint cut grooves.

Got out flap wheels on my dremel and starting with 80, then 240 and finally 400, quick rub with 1000 paper i end up with this, shame to cover with paint i guess .
