1995 Silver Series IV Slicktop Version S - Taking To Another Level

Took many items off my engine and have sent them to a metal polisher just a few miles from me and below are the results of his and my work :cool3:.

This is my aftermarket radiator bracket, it was or is stainless steel but now highly polished. The SLICKTOP plate was made by TwinTurboRich and I've had this powder coated and bolts on with some stainless steel allen capped nuts and bolts.

This is my Tokyo Auto cooling panel, original these come in silver or blue from z32-zone in Japan, mine was silver and the polisher told me it was anodized but now polished up as you can see. The logo was originally silver and riveted on, I drilled these out and had it powder coated, again bolted on using the same attractive stainless bolts.

Then the usual polished up water pipes, these will be used with red silicone hoses and mikalor t-clamps

DSC02889.jpg

Finally for this post, had my Altia sills polished, this removed many many scratches incurred from over the years, now I have a mirror finish.

So how much does it weigh Andy??

41kgs !!!!

Oh I see the new set are factory balanced unlike the originals?

Correct, the chinese suppliers/people have bought themselves some balancing machines and are using them !!

The serial numbers on the print offs all seem to tally, ie they don't just copy off the same one and send it out with each pair of turbos !!

Tomorrow should see me putting all the interior back in, gone is the tint i had on the 1/4 windows .

Holy crap!! That's a fair bit of weight saving:clap: You might even see your MPG go up after shedding 41kg's

Quite a reduction hey, just shows how much that stuff weighs. Like driving around with a kid in the boot.

You trying to tell us something Stephen. I keep a folding chair and the club banner in my boot.

Forgot about some more MDF that's for the dump and this little lot weighed another 8.5kgs, so with the cabling i didn't weigh - in total i've removed a quite staggering 50kgs !!

50 trillion million times better :cool3:.

Factory is the way to go !!

DSC05115.jpg

Everything is bolted in with the oem bolts and nuts

Took me a while to figure out the luggage straps but it finishes things off very nicely .

Next update will come when i re visit a Lotus motor sport set up guy, he already did the 4 wheel alignment a few weeks ago, it was way out he said, he recommended i lift the car because it's too low and i agree, so this we will do together and have a play about.

Then on the 19th Sept it's going in for a full respray in it's factory KL0 colour, this will deepen the colour from what it is now because the sun/elements have not been kind, the tried and tested AG3 colour will be used here and there.

At the same time it's in the shop the Work Equip centres will be attended to, very probably in shadow chrome.

Another job will be to do the interior, i am going to go a dark grey or a charcoal alcantara.....not happy with the light grey anymore.

I still also need to visit Denty later this year, he has a 1 piece prop down there of mine to fit, very soon then my car will be spot on and 100% to my liking :).

Now in the bodyshop where i spent several hours stripping it down, now left for my guy to do some more, so that leaves me to do occasional visits over the coming few weeks, hence further updates and pics will follow :thumbup1:.

Nice work! Big stereos have never been my thing and they look a little oxymoronic in a sports car. I had a sub and amp in mine for a few years and junked it. A good quality 4 speaker system is all you need. LOL @ the previous owner's wiring - what a mess!

You decided to take the rear bumper of then mate:) it will be better for painting,I need to get mine in for paint...if I could only get in contact with mr dent to do my few issues...but it's easer to contact aliens:wacko:

I'm actually in the booth now myself, not very exciting but it's a matter of me documenting really....

I don't know how it occurred but i did have a dent under the filler flap, now sorted. It was recently when my sills were attended to but they were left roughish, so that's the reason there is some filler there, all will be flattened including the stone chip all around.

And that is yes a Honda Accord in the background just been done, my restoration guy has also just taken delivery of a 2 CV Special - boy does that need some work !!

DSC05152.jpg

Not got a great deal of things to sort on my car, just a few on the bonnet, some may know i did actually let fall a hover mower on it and there were some pimples from those mighty mikalor clamps !!

DSC05151.jpg

With the bumper being off, i am going to do away with both my illuminated SLICKTOP number plate surround and the red strip i had to light up the number plate. I had the foresight to buy a very solid number plate bulb holder and this is being tarted up....here we see it dangling just been dremel rubbed back and rust treated, you can see its lovely and clean globes on the table.

Blimey how big is your number plate!

You might want to sign yourself up in this Group Buy, Andy... unless you fancy paying top dollar, of course... ;)

Your "stripped for respray" pictures remind me so much of when mine was done last year!

I've given it a lot of thought, it's just the wait Simon that's stopping me but pleased you have plenty of takers.

Anyhow, i have got my hands on some charcoal alcantara and seeing as it seems to be just sticking it down, ie with no stitching required, i'm having a go, 100% i cannot do as badly as the last guy who stuck down the fabric i supplied........feel as though i've nothing to lose and fyi i'm doing the door cards this weekend :cool3:.

Famous last words there... ;)

Good luck! :thumbup1:

Door card work has begun, removed the old stuff and am left with lumpy tackiness, so most if not all is being removed and the channels cleaned out. You can see on the pic below some white areas, this is where previous knife work has been sloppy so i'll have to take steps to cover this the best i can.

The charcoal alcantara pieces are cut ready but prep must come first.....

Look at me.............simple white bulbs fitted in the globes and my bench is lighting up, damn sure it'll illuminate my number plate real nice and clean.

DSC05159.jpg

Everything oem !! Primed, glossed and lacquered - no rusty bulb holder with grubby globes here !!!

Door cards are done, gone is the light grey colour i had and badly done - not by me. I don't think i've done too bad for a beginner, loving the charcoal colour and the pile of the alcantara.

Rather than toil at the corners (i did try briefly !!).........a simple fold is what i've gone for.

My other bits to cover are still on the car 20 miles away, when i get it back after the respray i'll finish the job, here are some pics.

Not heard at all from my respray guy last week but i did hear twice from the wheel center, so they're cracking on with my Work Equip shadow chrome 5 spoke centers, been told they'll be ready next week .

Today sees me prepping my tail lights, these will be my genuine 99's with filament bulbs, i will as i always do when i fit these be using the red stop/tail bulbs.

I have some brand new wing indicators, unsure which bulbs atm i will be using because i will need them all to be the right shade of amber/orange/yellow, etc, probably use the filament 501's they came with though.

DSC05183.jpg

Then my front headlights, all nice and spotlessly clean with the tamiya adjusting cogs, stock charcoal 89 tray with near to factory imo looking white halo. Ready to go in these i have the 5000k HID kits with H3c (not H3) bulbs.

In the main beam i have some 130w filament bulbs that will fry my wiring just for the flashing !!

It's in primer and being flattened when i visited today, grabbed some pics along with chatting.

DSC05187.jpg

The arches will be sprayed black later, to hide any over spray :cool3:.

DSC05185.jpg

Plenty more prep to do, he found a bit of worm at the front L/H where the sill starts - all sorted, think he said a bit of colour will be going on Wednesday :thumbup1:.

DSC05186.jpg

I'm going silver now so I've got to see which silver I like best. Are you going stock Z silver Andy?

  • Author

Just checking my resprayers facetwitube page today and look what i have discovered, had to copy and paste over here of course, nice to see a deep silver colour on it again :thumbup1:.
