So, I have the rad out and I'm wondering, should I put the shroud back on?

I know there's the hazard of losing a finger, but I was thinking, I could leave it off and paint the fan nicely.

What do you think?

well im keeping mine and i am going to fit an electric fan aswell cas ive the space now ive taken out air con rad so i can put an electric fan the other side just for hot long quews and driving like you stoll it ,just for reasurance.

you have an exellent fan already fitted for the aircon...put a switch and relay to it for when stuck in traffic on a hot day:yes:

That's something I'm going to do. Wire up the aircon fan with a thermostat to kick in, also rig up a direct vent to my oil cooler.

Bin the shroud, don't paint the fam just have a nice sparkly clean undamaged one.

Never ran a shroud in mine for the 10 odd years i had it...

Yeah its fine if you paint it satin black.:thumbup1:

But the trouble on this forum is peole will want to paint it Candy Apple Blue or white and red to match their coil packs:no:

The serious point is.. leave it on cos it helps with cooling.......................

LOL - and yes!!!

Exactly what Pete said for me too..... If you want to paint the fan, do it in something like satin black and then refit the shroud. It is designed to direct the fan's airflow onto the radiator to ensure effective cooling.

And whilst some of you will have experienced no cooling issues without the shroud - do remember that in the UK there is always a traffic jam around the corner. Think about this; you have been driving along the motorway for an hour or two, the outside temperature is in the high 20s (it has been recently, we do get a summer sometimes) and suddenly you get stuck in a jam for an hour. That is when you need BOTH fans operating correctly as there will be no airflow from forward motion passing over the radiator and the coolant will get awfully hot if the fan's efficiency is in any way compromised!!

And the reason I agreed with satin black? With the shroud in place, the fan will be hard to clean and satin black will not show the dirt so much!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

LOL.. no brainier.. turn engine off... been stuck in plenty of jams and never had an overheating issue.

LOL - true, but if it is in the high 20s outside, then I want to keep my a/c on.....

Some of us will always fly in the face of convention. It makes the world a more colourful place lol

I did ask before - how do you get your shroud looking shiny and smooth like car.mad? Or where did he get it from....... Turin??

I kind of agree, but if its high 20s outside I want to take my roof off... :)

Why on earth blue? Could be worse. Could be red or green! I'm taking mine off tomorrow.....either to clean or to paint B.L.A.C.K! :) It matches my hoses...lol

Most of my hoses are blue. I actually plan on doing the majority of it black, but I know how much you'd appreciate a nice blue one lol.

oooooh, i like!

I havent had mine on for years, i dont even know where it is anymore. I thought it was only there so you didnt chop any fingers off plus if you do leave it off you only have to put your hand in it once and you'll never forget again!!

Woooft, thread revival with a fresh vote :)

Haha, that’s that useful search bar for you! Was searching for fan shroud and came across it. Thought I’d chuck in a “Keep” vote while I was here :cool2:
