Hi all this is my first post and basically I've put my current car up for sale do I can invest in a zed.

I fancy a tt t-bar with a budget of about 2500. Is that realistic? The price range I've seen on the usual sites is confusing. Any help much appreciated

Cheers, Adam

Hi there, fortunately the t top version is the most common. Available in both 2 seater and the 2+2 seater formats. I'd say budget to spend 3500 you may find a bargain, but often the cars sub 1000 are cheap for a reason. It may cost you double or triple to get them right. Your current budget is sensible, and may get you a Goodun, however a better pick would be through the 3500 catagory. Club cars are a good buy and look for something with lots of history. A large stack of receipts with these is a good thing.

If you plan to use it daily, bear in mind the fuel consumption. Mid 20s with mixed driving is average. Less if your a lead foot, more on a long run. Best thing is start looking, start attending meets and generally get involved.

I'd say £2500 should get you a good one if you are patient. It won't be mint, but will be s good base car to work with. Good luck with the search mate!

Welcome to the club mate, as said before you really do get what you pay for with these, so buy the best u can :)

And they do like rust, especially sills and wheel arches so look out for that !

Welcome to the club Adam, plenty of help and advice on here, can't really add any more to what has already been said, take your time and get a good one......good luck with your search.

Is 1800 too cheap? Apparently its solid like new underneath and the mileage is aroung 77000 :-/ only worry is theres very little service history. Its a tt aswell so what should I look out for?

Check for rust on the sills and rear arches then take it for a good drive. Is it advertised anywhere?

How long is the MOT bud?

As Gary says really buddy, just watch and look carefully and if needed take photo's and bang them up on here. Good luck with it.

Cheers for the response mate, as many of the threads I've read on here there's so many helpful people!! MOT until march 2014. Will let you all know how I get on

Welcome to the club Adam and i wouldnt worry too much about service history, most will generally have been reasonably looked after and there are few with known service history, best to check her over when you get it and with advice from here, replace parts as needed and change fluids, oil every 3-4k miles.

Brill stuff thanks. I'm a qualified mechanic with verryyyyy little experience. Only doing work and servicing etc on my own car or families. What are these like to service? As this is something ill be doing every few months or so. I've seen its a little cramped in the bay lol

The bay can be daunting if you are not used to it, but you will soon get your head around it lol.

Changing the plugs for instance, you will need to remove the balance bar to get to No 6 plug and be careful of the O rings when you take the bar off, so lift off slowly to make sure you dont lose one and forget about it when replacing. Oil filter easy access, drain plug on the bottom of the rad ( drivers side) gearbox oil a pain in the ass, Manual, i found it easier to use an extended tube on the bottle from inside engine bay and down through to the side of the box, Auto filled up through the dipstick, apart from that pretty straight forward.

Plenty of info in the tech FAQ's on the header of page, worth doing some research, it will make it so much easier understanding the zed.

Great advice! Nice to have someone to talk to at this time of a morning as well whilst I'm looking at zeds getting eager. I'm just in the middle of paying my first subscription too :-) the car I'm hoping to buy is an auto which sound simpler to maintain anyway lol

If you get an auto, the first thing i would do is to drain the oil and take off the sump ( of the box) and take out the strainer to give it a good clean, you will still have a couple of litres in the convertor, but you can remove the oil cooler pipes and run an airline through to aid getting it out. Some common issues with the autobox is debris or sludge clogging the strainer.

Thanks bud will do, I would love a manual and I'm now stuck because I've seen 2 cars that take my fancy, the manual is 800 more expensive but it looks like its defiantly worth the extra. It's right at the top end of my 2.5k budget and its in Dorset :-( quite a mission from shrewsbury lol
