Bad news for my ZX

Was driving along m25 when i noticed smoke coming from the engine and threw my vents. Quickly pulled to hard shoulder, opened bonnet to find my engine a complete blaze.

Flagged down a lorry who had a fire extinguisher put it out within a minuite.

However i think its still caused alot of damage :(

Garage reckons an oil hose has burst and leaked onto the manifold where the engine has caught light, will this be the end of the ZX........ who knows!

Yeah i was very lucky! No exterior garage only engine garage thank god!

This suggests why a car extinguisher is probably a good idea for about £20

Plus sods law says If you need one you won't have one, and if you have one you won't need one - so that's an even better reason lol

bad news m8 .. not good but im sure it can be rebuilt ..

it will be fuel that set on fire Prob from a leaking fuel line

Glad your not harmed could have been alot worse, sorry for your zed tho she looks lovely

Gutted for you mate hope it can be saved without too much work, I've always said to my mates that a fire extinguisher is a small price to pay, I always have one in my Z

Yikes!! :scared: Hope the damage isn't too extensive and a major silver lining is that nobody was hurt...!

Agreed - it's good news you noticed and stopped when you did mate. You have a stunning looking ZX there, so if the bodywork is undamaged, then the engine and electrics can easily be replaced. Hopefully you'll get it sorted without too much hassle. I'm pleased to hear you are fine though,

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

That's what I was thinking mark, as the high pressure lines for oil down there are solid, and it would have to be soooooo hot to ignite it, more likely a split or leaking feul piece up on the plemum created a gas pocket of fuel or a pool and whoosh fire!

Whatever, very sad and as dicky said £20 worth of fire extinguisher can save a car.

What type of fire extinguishers are you guys carrying and what size are they?

Fingers crossed your repair bill isn't to much

you need a dry powder type .. ... about the size of a 2lt pop bottle

and if any of you do happen to have an engine fire .. Do Not open the bonnet ..

this will make it worse all ways unlatch it and spray with in the Gap

this way you will be starving the fire of air too

Sad news for such a nice looking zed. I've just found my halfords voucher I won last year down the sofa. Guess I know what I will be buying with it.

Excellent advice Mark, agreed also.:thumbup1:

The hardest thing to do is leave your bonnet closed when your pride and joy is going up in smoke no matter what anyone says...hope your repair is an easy fix mate:(;)

Very true, few people have the type of mind that reacts the way they know they should in an emergency situation, most of us just panic and do the obvious, that's human nature. It takes a lot to conditioning yourself to do the right thing sometimes, take understeer and oversteer for example, your automatic reaction only makes things worse.

HEADS UP. **************
