  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

Swapped the 4 spoke airbag steering wheel for a JDM 3 spoke...and all the mods it took to get it to fit right, turn with no binding or noise and have bothe the horn and turn spacer.pngsignals work as they did with the 4 spoke wheel

Just checking to see you lot were paying attention!  Can't have a Z owner tuned out on the job!

All the work to fix that and ya dinna put the door panel back in, and the plug in the window channel...what passes for good work around here...not to mention now all the labels are backwards...and the loo rolls the wrong way...

Good onya for what you did though, Now if I could just get past the loo bit...

Another part collected for install.

Was the major fault on the mot fail list as mine has a big crack along the middle

Getting all the bits slowly but surely.

Technically yesterday, but finally got all lights sorted as only main beam and brake lights were working.
turned out that it had some melted wiring behind the light pod and in the boot they had linked a load of wires...wrong, oh and did I mention the blown 7.5 fuse...now replaced with a 10 as standard and all wiring chopped replaced, re-soldered, heat wrapped and connected, Bingo ?

Nothing today.....

….But yesterday, I took the Zed out for a nice run; had to jump-start it (again) though, as the battery had lost its charge. Despite being relatively new, I decided to treat the Zed to a nice new Yuasa battery from Allparts, whilst passing by. The guy behind the counter was really helpful - and, despite his computer bringing up a battery with the terminals on the wrong side, managed to locate the right one. He also couldn't get out to see the Zed fast enough, when I told him it was outside!! After much car-related admiration, he proceeded to knock £20 off the price - just as well, as it wasn't cheap!

I fitted the battery when I got home - and then had to replace the side-light fuse. Twice:classic_rolleyes:. Turned out one of my LED bulbs had over-heated and fried a connection on its PCB. They were a little too bright, for side lights, so I fitted some better quality ones; albeit at the "proper" brightness:classic_wink:

I fiddled with the boot catch (again) too, as intermittently activates the switch - turning on the interior light and "door open" dash light. Hmmm, might have found the source of that drained battery - so I have removed the boot light bulb and switched off the interior light, just until I know the boot catch is fixed.

I gave the Zed a nice hoover and interior polish - including some leather care treatment - so it's all ready for a trip to Dorset in a couple of weeks:classic_biggrin:

And today, I've successfully charged that old battery and will leave it in the garage, to use as a booster, if needed. It's a PITA getting the Merc or RR close enough to jump-start the Zed, when it's in the garage.:classic_tongue:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I have been using mine, given the arrival of some nice weather last weekend.....:classic_wink:

Julia and I were meant to be spending a few days in Dorset, but (quite rightly) our hotel called to cancel late last Friday night, owing to the big Covid-19 shut-down. However we still had the days booked off - so decided to make the most of quiet roads and head out each day for some exercise, amidst our deserted coast and countryside. Responsibly, of course - we stayed away from other people (not that there were many) and just enjoyed being out in the sunshine, in virtual isolation.

It felt great giving The Zed a proper blast along deserted motorways and rural A-roads. We covered around 650 miles - and burned a fair few litres of Shell's finest - with barely another car in sight.

The car is a little dusty now, so will receive a thorough wash this weekend :classic_cool:

MOT passed with no advisories. Clean conscience driving for another year - but nowhere to go! The MOT was booked before the restrictions and the garage said they were still doing them as important to keep cars on road. Missed the freebie 6 months by a day.

Got up at 6am today to make the most of the empty roads around Brighton and Hove. Even with the current situation, plenty of people on the roads from 8-9am onwards. To get those empty lanes to give it the beans off all the traffic lights you got to get up early or go out late night. Came across some lovely roads the other day when I bought some service bits off an eBayer about 15 mins from me who sells loads of parts for old Nissans; he used to sell 300zx’s when they were brand new in his own dealership. Anyway the roads are wide, flat, smooth and plenty of roundabouts [emoji2]. The car just runs beautifully, thanks to the previous owners recently fitting new BC coilovers, various suspension bits, new 98 spec gearbox and generally meticulously maintaining the car, as I intend to do also.

Came home after about an hour and half and gave the car it’s weekly wash in this crazy wind - my face is frozen but who cares when the zed is squeaky clean! Went through the usual process of washing, cleaning exhaust back boxs, wheels including insides behind the rim and sills etc., then proceeding to dry the whole car with my super thick microfibre to all panels, all door shuts, wheels. Used rainx to all windows inside and out. Applied some autoglym bumper and trim gel after seeing someone apply it to their zed on a thread here a few days ago. Made a great difference and has eased my car OCD [emoji1787].

Replaced the rear wheel nuts last week with new silver ones to contrast against the gunmetal grey wheels, as existing ones had rusted as you can see on the fronts. Can’t get my car jack under the fronts so going to change the front wheel nuts next Thursday when it’s at the garage for an oil change and brake fluid flush. Hopefully my mechanic can also fit my 99 spec headlights too.

Can’t wait to get the paintwork and full 99spec front end conversion done once this lockdown is over. Had the car booked in this week but unfortunately cancelled due to the lockdown announced last Monday night. Some photos also below of the dilapidated bits which are being sorted when bodyshop reopens. Bought new doortrims for both sides and new original Nismo clear side indicators as existing ones rubber seals are falling apart.

Need to remove that sat nav from the a pillar dial holder as it looks naff and not too sure about the backlit chrome speedometer surround - May have to change to original black items with chrome dial surrounds..

I think I need to open a project/restoration thread detailing the start to finish of this car.

Nice read Naz and you cleaned it up well [emoji106] Look forward to see your new parts going on and the removal of that big front number plate [emoji846]

Hi Gaz, thanks thanks. Haha yes I’m not a fan of those huge plates either with the writing on the left - same thing on the rear plates. Have bought a new single line slim plate for the front like many of the owners clubs cars have and a normal plate for the rear too as attached photos. Slim front one will also be better for airflow with the bigger openings on the
99 bumper especially. Ignore the green tint on the front plate - that’s just the back of the sticky back part that’s not been peeled yet.

Agreed - your Zed is looking very nice mate... Love the gleaming blue paintwork in the sunshine:classic_wink:

I'm popping outside to give mine a wash shortly - then it's back in the garage for Zeddy:classic_biggrin:

Thanks mate, much appreciated. Gave it a good detail few weeks ago to revitalise that shine; wash, clay bar, polish and wax. Good luck and hope it’s not too windy where you are. We have the Brighton sea wind which can knock over small people like my other half haha [emoji23]

Today I replaced my front speakers. Following Gio's earlier thread, I bought the same JVC 16 inch pair, along with some new foam strip and - finally - set to work....

I also tightened up all the screws and bolts behind the door cards - and reinstalled them with some new screws and plastic trim panel clips. Everything is a nice snug fit once more:classic_smile:

I also fitted a brand new OEM boot catch - I managed to locate one in the USA... It still needs the positioning finely adjusting, so the boot closes smoothly, but that can wait until tomorrow :classic_wink:

……………...Oh, and when I nipped out to purchase a few essential groceries, I took the Zed along - then stopped for a very quick photo-shoot on the way home:classic_ninja:
