  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

Got my new steering wheel, not a Nardi like every other Jap car seems to have, but a nice sensible British-as-a-cup-of-tea-in-a-repressed-colony Moto Lita.

Looks the nuts, now I've just got to buy a boss and turn up an adaptor from standard 6 bolt PCD to 9 bolt Moto Lita PCD, and sort a horn press and fit the thing. But I'll finally be able to have a steering wheel I can actually reach, which is nice. Curse of the long legs.

I also got the electric aerial working again, and..... crashed the Z. Into my own car. Like a complete idiot.

At least my neighbour came over to tell me exactly who'd damaged my horrid little Micra. His face... ha.

Thing is, despite it being a mere bump (the Micra shows no damage at all, I just scraped the dirt off it), the rear bumper of the Z practically exploded. Because it's made almost entirely of a 1/4" thick slab of poly filler.

The more I dig into this car the more I realise what a complete pile of junk it actually is. Wiring is hacked to pieces, paint is blistered, body smoothness is a lie. I don't know who sprayed it blue originally, but I'm assuming most of this bodging happened during this persons ownership as it's all under the blue or has blue overspray on it... Pretty much the whole rear left quarter is filler and disappointment. And there's a rust bubble appeared on the drivers sill which I shall now have to investigate.

But I shall rebuild. And I shall use only the finest engineered bodges to do it.

I think Devvny's post above may have just convinced me to refurb the gold Gewalt splitrims and paint the centres dark too...

Early start today, out at 6am, first stop was to Dave to pick up some door cards, thanks for the bacon buttie. Then onto Si to drop my interior off & have a chat about what I'm after. So the group buy has started, can't wait to see it done.

Anytime Tom, was good to catch up. Thanks for the Z model for Alex.... I'll keep it safe in my mancave for now:)

How much is the road tax now in your neck of the woods?

:cursing::cursing:€1495 or thereabouts for the year, add more if you just pay quarterly or 6 monthly!!!:cursing::cursing:

Running a car in ireland years ago when the punt was in fashion was cheap. Fuel was cheap, no mot etc. Those days are long gone. £1495 is simply extortion!
Glad I'm on the other side of the border :w00t: Park it at my house.

I've already registered the red one to your address pal:lol:

I wouldn't count on that the way the DUP are getting on :tongue_smilie:

Yesterday was an interesting day for me and the Z. After it miraculously passed her MOT last weekend I thought I’d pay some attention to her as even though she’s used daily I haven’t given her much love during the winter.

Tightened the squealing aux belts as they were loose and went to change the front discs as they were deemed dangerous in MOT. Thought I might be able to fit the donor TT ones for now as for various reasons I’m out of work until the end of this month.

That idea back fired as the TT discs are wider than the NA ones.

Couldn’t change the calipers either as no spare brake lines and the NA fixings are seized. Stupid things. Feel like one step forward leads to 3 back with this car.

Also got an issue with the horns. When it rains heavy the horn sets itself off which is interesting at 3am running outside to unplug the sods. The neighbours love me haha. They’ve been detached until I find the fault caused by water egress.

This year has some serious plans with my engine build and the car is also now booked into the body shop for a total overhaul on a rotisserie. And a few secret things involving bodywork and aesthetic adjustments.

But for now I will return to be quiet and graft away to make all this happen. Watch this space gents [emoji16]

Z Key.jpg

Must be a spare key from one of my previous Zeds....could be for the 240z or the 260z...looks a bit old to have been for one of the 280zxs or my Z31 300zx...:confused1:
