  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

I had a good look at the underside of mine whilst it was at jimmers.

After the trip down there, the underside resembled the salt flats so I'd get on the floor with the jet wash and give it a blast Simon, cos I can promise you the roads are far from salt free!

Couldnt actually believe how much there was under there.

Gave the people in tesco a good laugh though cos when I got back home I washed the car down and then went and laid on the floor In tesco garage and jet washed the whole underside to get rid of it all.. Fortunately I have drains in my skirts and a nice slot near the wings where I can force the jet wash water down it and flush them out because skirts are a bugger for trapping salt and crud.

They'll be coming off shortly anyway for the repaint but in the meantime I don't want salty stuff messing with the metal..

Tom, loved the pics mate.. Felt quite envious! Reminded me of the Scotland trip I did last year driving through the Highlands and the Ben nevis views..

Breathtaking views!

I'll have to get out there with you in the near future and you can give me a tour mate.. I know malak Ali wants to go for a jaunt in Wales aswell so maybe get a few more interested and make a weekend of it? Hotel or camp a night?

We can have a chat and organise something for this year maybe?

3 years and two kids ago I would have been bang up for that but my boys prevent me from long weekends away driving. It is going to give me the time to build a dream 300 ready for the days the boys want to spend a weekend with the grandparents.

If you fancy a jaunt to mid Wales in the summer you could pass by my place, and fix any cars broken down on the way [emoji23]

I'll be there for a week or two doing jobs to dad's zed (manual conversion, engine mount replacement, bits and bobs)

I've got a new owner having me help him rebuild half the front of his Z at the moment Alic otherwise I'd offer you a hand, he showed me a photo of his aftermarket intercoolers yesterday and I think they're gonna be tea bags haha..

Don't know if anyone has any laying around but looking for the rubber pipes from the stock intercoolers to the first section of hard pipes and also an oem front indicator bulb holder for the bumper if anyone has them knocking around?

I don't think I'll be refitting his aftermarket ic's for previously mentioned reasons so may be needing those pipes as he hasn't got them.

Let me know what you want for them if you have them..

Cheers guys..

Is it safe to get the car in the air and give the underside a good pressure wash? Everything under there has a good IP rating so to speak?

Thanks 007. Well we can all use my place as a stepping stone into the hills. Just PM and you're all welcome for a cuppa.

Craig, was that for the guy in Beaumaris who is having his 70th this year?

it is that same weekend. planned to do a club drive and then caverns on saturday, with the wedding comvoy sunday, but as he say passed away, not sure if that will still happen.

but i plan to still be there for the weekend anyway.

Front thumper and headlight finally off.

Added an extra layer of red (via a Sharpei pen) to the 300ZX logo, as it looks a bit pale . EL panel in, just need to get to the oven to seal up the centre panel.

The underside is OK to jet wash of course, that the bit that's in contact with water most of its life..

A good underseal is of course the best thing to keep the rust away but so much salt can still eat away in to the places where the underseal has worn or even missed.

If I had the option of lifting the car on 4 post lifts then I'd be under it cleaning every month.. However laying on the ground in tesco is the only option at 8pm on a Saturday night and the salt on it was terrible.. So needs must..

Forgot to mention 007 usually that's the procedure before doing an underseal. Jet wash it off to get the dirt off, then the wire brushes to remove the old underseal and any surface rust pre treated with zinc rust treatment.. Then fresh underseal when it's all dry..

Definitely gonna have the fuel rank off mine at some point as I noticed a little surface corrosion under there.

Get it quick before it becomes an issue.

The road from Capel Curig to Bangor is one of the best. It's where I took this a few years ago

Well i started on my racecar build today.....

Personally i wouldnt pressure wash the chassis. You risk directing water at places it wouldnt naturally get to. I have the misfortune of being under many a car thats just driven in the rain and its quite surprising how dry the actual chassis can be.

And i wouldnt attempt an underseal job until the height of summer. You want nice dry warm weather and the car to have been dry for a few weeks before you seal her up.

And to add further. Coat on top of coat on top of coat of underseal is pointless.

Its all about the right product used in the right way in the right places.

I agree, especially if you're injecting stuff into the box sections, chassis rails and inner wings. It's best to do that on a hot day so that the product can 'creep'.

Do it on a cold day or a damp day and you could be trapping in moisture.

So how would you go about removing road salt from the underside Chris? When I was looking under mine at the weekend I honestly couldn't see a point where the salt wasn't!

I get what you're saying about pressure washing the chassis but I don't know if I'd rather risk a little standing water rather than a pile of salt against the chassis?

I have an arc car wash up the road that has a chassis cleaner in it, but I've been dubious about using it because of the upward spray towards the engine and all those lovely electrical items..

So I'd be interested in what you'd advise to do?

Just wanted to say, I should've mentioned about the underseal only being applied when bone dry, but thought I'd be stating the obvious to be fair so it didn't really spring to mind at the time..

Well after getting no where to find my ABS issue I went to check all sensors yesterday only to find that the Anti-Lock light is no longer staying on???

Driven it about with some aggressive breaking and its still staying off/ So just rushed her down to MOT centre, done passed.

So new clutch and MOT done this month, roll on the sunny weather, just need to keep an eye on this light, just hoping it was dirt or something.......

Not using the car in the poor weather is always the best option. But if thats not possible then i would say that if the underside is properly protected with high quality products then the surface salt shouldnt do that much to corrode things.

I doubt that pressure washing the chassis is of much benefit as the water your forcing into areas it wouldnt naturally get to will do more harm long term than the surface salts your trying to remove.

The majority of cars will now most likely be corroded enough for a little surface salt to make sod all difference anyway.

I actually did buy a second car already Chris, in fact I'm now in my second 2nd car cos the first one was a ka haha.

Because I don't have the luxury of a garage I prefer to keep mine on the move although I draw the line at snow or very bad icy conditions, more due to the fact that it probably wouldn't move far in it anyway

Jet washing mine was definitely necessary though as there are gaps in the underseal and I'd rather not leave that crud on there without the protection..

When I move house I shall be garaging the car and plan to have a four post lift installed. That's a condition with the wife or else I won't be moving!

Once the dry weather comes in it'll be going to have a full underseal done to keep all the underside I'm good order.. I'll be stripping the subframe, fuel tank and drive train to give them full access to all the little nooks and crannys..

Good to hear you passed Gary.. I wouldn't have expected it not to if I'm honest! Not exactly I'm bad nick that motor of yours huh!

Christmas came late!

It almost looks too nice to fit. :)

There's another 3 boxes of associated stuff as part of this clutch job. Can't wait to get it up to Jim's on the first dry salt free weekend we get!

Why only temporary?

Had my mirror glass collected from a Ryukyu Nissan, a Japanese dealership in Okinawa today. I have some more stuff to pick up from there which I'll collect in person.

These early mirror glasses without heating element aren't easy to get over here and I believe they're about £50 each.

These work out around £17 each! :)

Not having the dent line for the side strip really changes the side profile, I’ve not seen that before. :cool3:

Other than no spoiler have you changed the lines in any other way?
