  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

I think I'd sooner fit a tan coloured ash tray from an US model!

No you wouldnt the tan or dog poop vomit colour from the us cars is absolutely vile

Drove it to work in the early hours, first time I have seen my self reconditioned headlights in action.

Very satisfied. 4084767D-612A-4F8B-BF6D-E876AE0353F6.jpg

Looks Good Scott but don't drive that lovely UK spec in all the salt; it will turn into the ferrous ore from whence it came!

Not if you look after it properly...

I bought mine to enjoy it, can't do that if its in a garage all its life si.

ARC chassis wash on occasion and good underseal maintenance and salt doesn't stay there long enough really.

Plus the fact that it rains constantly here, most of that salt is more than likely back in the sea an hour after its been spread on the road

Incorrect. Salt dust gets to places that a jet wash can't reach, then there's all the grit to destroy that wrecks the paint. Besides, you told me yesterday you hardly used it anyway.

I bought mine to enjoy it too. But I see absolutely no point in taking it on the road in the winter for all the dampness, rock chips and salt to destroy it. You can't use all the power on the slimey gross roads at the moment anyway.

I've seen wwaaaayyyyy too many rotten Zs to risk it.

It gets plenty of use in the summer. :)

Took mine for its (say it quietly so the car doesn't hear) MOT. And she only went and passed with no advisories! :D So it's off to Goodwood tomorrow then back on the drive until the weather sorts itself out. Rain, snow, hail and perfect cloudless sunshine in a 7 mile journey to the test centre...

And I fitted the stereo I was going to put in the 6 series because I felt like it, and it has an aux in despite being from the 80s. Lost my Cream cassette tape inside it, but the aerial now powers up and down so, zero net gain on that front.

Turns out, if you take your dash apart then put it back in using approximately three times the number of screws than the last guy to take it out, it doesn't rattle... Wish I'd done it months ago. 10 out of 10, absolute best mod for the money... :mad2:

Can't spell, can't grammar and can't even include all the words.

Looks Good Scott.

Thanks Paul..:lol: (It's Dave by the way)

I take your point about the salt though Si, fortunately we have not had any salt down as of yet.

Why did I think it was Scott?

Sorry Dave! Brain fail on an epic scale! Been a long week.

All I can go on is my own experiences.. Even though my Z has been having little use the last 5 months, it was used as a daily car for the most time I've owned it since June 2016.

Been used in all weather's salt or not and its reason for lack of recent use is down to the fact I was waiting for months to get a heater matrix installed, otherwise it'd have been out much more often, as it is now.

I've kept mine clean and over this time I have seen no evidence of rust at all. It'll be having a fresh dose of underseal I'm the next month or so as funds permit and cavity wax etc inspected and sorted.

When the front end comes apart for the respray, I will be removing a lot of things and replacing them with the freshly treated and powder coated replacements even though the parts currently fitted are in good order.

I received the full energy suspension poly Bush kit today and that will be getting added to all the parts being replaced.

Just about to put an order in with energy suspension I'm the US aswell to get some new damper bellows, front and rear sway bar bushes (which were missing from the kit) and a few other odds and sods so if anyone is wanting to order anything from them, let me know ASAP and we can save on shipping costs etc.

After my visit to jimmer in the morning it'll be straight off to the tyre shop Sunday morning for new boots all round and a full geometry setup too.

So gonna be a busy weekend..

Might even have time to break out the snow foam and give that a try or maybe Autoglyms new HD shampoo? Looking forward to trying that one along with their HD wax..

Out of interest, has anyone tried this American marvel known as F-11? I think??

It's some sort of coating for paintwork, chrome, leather etc...

Apparently it seals everything like a Teflon coating..

Seen the ads but not sure if it's actually any good... Anyone tried it yet?

No worries sir, made me giggle.

Something I could do with a lot more of at present.

I used to use ACF50 on my motorbikes. Purple stuff, came in a fancy can, smelled nice. Enough hazard labels to readsure me it was powerful enough! That was American, Anti Corrosion Formula I think it was, or possibly Aircraft Formula.

Dude, if you need a visitor to help work on the Z and have a bit of banter, let me know.

June 2016? That's a long time man...... so basically only 1 winter if it's been off the road the last, 5 months.

Simon,I realise from most of your responses to my posts that you're intent on trying to turn my key mate but, please engage your brain before you input an incorrect statement and end up looking the tit..

June 2016 is actually two winters.. One in 2016 & one in 2017... We have one per year..

Feeling smug yet?

And before you jump in with the been off the road statement, I never said it had been off the road completely,I just said it hadn't gone out much because it had no heater..

It's been out every weekend, just not been used as a daily.

Evening you bunch of reprobates........ how is everyone?

I actually dug my Z out of the corner of my driveway and took her for a quick spin this afternoon.......

I have spent 2 days trying to research the auto box nightmare that is my Z.....

A few things popped up on my drive.... Stalling when i stop at junctions, power light popping up when hard accelerating and feeling like a slipping clutch when cornering and not up to running temp.....

Feels like low transmission fluid or lack of pressure?

So I will be checking the level this week and if it is ok, I shall be dropping the sump on the transmission to check the filter, o'ring and debris magnet......

Yes...... I am still Auto....... lol

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

Russ! Thought you had been abducted and probed by aliens or something.

Been trying to get hold of you Chris........ been missing our chats..... lol

How you been?

What you been upto?

I have finally started to try and fix the tranny..... and had a thought that the remote filter maybe round the wrong way on the inlet and outlet pipes from the tranny?

But can't find anything saying which hardline is in and out.......

I need some time and dry weather to do some investigation.... lol

How you been trying to get hold of me mate? I think i would ditch the remote filter setup as the old tranny might not have the ability to pass fluid through the filter and extra pipework. Just run a dedicated cooler upfront mate.

Or better still FIT A MANUAL! [emoji6]

NOOOOOOOO......... AUTO!!!!!!........lol

There aren't enough auto boxes left to keep you on the road Russ haha..

You need to get a manual conversion before they run out mate, come to the dark side, you find the road trips don't end up on the back of a tow truck although it's much better fuel economy that way lol.

Anyway joking aside, I need to say a big thanks to jimmer for the work he's done today.

New one piece prop fitted, rear crankshaft seal, boost leak sorted, found the real cause of the tyre wear which was the hicas Bush on the passenger side (mot guy missed that one!) turbo oil feed and return pipes fitted with new washers and gaskets and tightened up with a spanner not just the fingers as they were previously.

Even managed to rewire my horns and enjoyed honking away at every opportunity haha...

The drive home was like a different car, so big thumbs up Jim, really happy with the new lease of life you gave the old girl
