Good to see you back on here buddy:thumbup:

Finally managed to get myself a decent number plate bracket with only a modicum of rust.

Dropped it off at the powder coaters today along with the bumper support cable brackets.

Looking forward to getting these unremarkable parts back looking lovely and new. :)

Taxed and insured for another 12 months today

Fired mine up for the first time in 4 months, sounded like a bag of bolts.

Sounded as though she was only firing on 3 or maybe 4 cylinders to start with, but after about 10 seconds all 6 were firing. sort of.

What might be the cause?

Also, apart from a very loud tiny type tapping, I had a misfire on the right hand side that just refused to go away.

I must admit, things did settle down after 5 minutes mind, apart from the misfire that is

Coil pack perhaps?

Hi Red, I would start by checking injector connectors and coil pack ones.. Put your finger on the top of each injector plug and press down and give a little wiggle. Coil packs are easier to get hold of, so just give them a wiggle too.

If you have access to conzult, a power test will show up the cylinder that's missing.

Fingers crossed it isn't an injector..

You can do a simple test with a screwdriver to check that they are working.

If you take a long screwdriver, start the car and put the metal end of the screwdriver on the top of the injector cap.

Place your ear on to the plastic handle of the screwdriver and you should hear a quite loud pronounced clucking as the injector opens and closes. Test each one, if you find one that has a much quieter sound, likelihood is you're hearing the ones next to it and the one you are on is dead.

It's a cruse test but very effective for finding a dead injector if you don't have access to conzult.

Tapping sound - Hydraulic tappets drained down, take a while to pump back up.

Makes sense Andrew, would that account for the initial loss of cylinders?

Did sound quite rough.

As for the persistent misfire, I think I will try swapping the left hand coil packs for the right and vise versa.

See if the the misfire moves over to the right.

I had this as well the day, happens after every winter.

Had to move the Zed as I had another car up for a 4 day detail job, and funnily enough it was another Z, of the 370Z Nismo kind, lovely car.

Cheers mate,

As you say, I will pull and check the injector connections along with the coil pack ones, hopefully it is something that simple.

I do have DataScan, if I can get my laptop to fire up, so will try a power test on each cylinder to try and isolate the misfire.

Failing that, I will try and listen with the screwdriver method.

Problem is, it is intermittent, every 20 seconds or so.

Hopefully I will be able to catch it happening.

Continuing to strip down the front end for servicing.

Can now get a good look at the PIAA horns. Oddly, they're different frequencies!

Aren't most cars fitted with "two tone" horns...?
