  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

Fitted my Mondo trimmed wheel today, rewired the cruise control harness so that it works via the slip ring rather than the CC paddle. All works and very happy with it! I love my Nardi wheel, but this feels much nicer and it gives better visibility to all the controls and switchgear. I can now see my CC illuminated and my indicator stalk! I also prefer having the cc buttons on the wheel. Whilst the early steering wheels are still not my favourite in style, they're more functional and feel better IMO.

Also fitted a newer style indicator stalk which has the flasher decal on it and obviously a replacement upper steering wheel shroud. Some keen beans may also notice my UK-spec hazard switch. ;)

I know what you mean about the OEM wheel, its the same as the real deal un-molested gear knob...it just feels right that cant be explained.

Totally agree Bri. Some things should just be left alone. I'm use to using the OEM wheel as the 2+2 that's there for me to drive in the US has one and it's always felt 'just right'. Since becoming anal about going back to virtually stock (visually), it's started to appeal to me more and more.

Time to get rid of the chrome dial surrounds I think. I like 'em, but I don't want them anymore.

I have a brushed stainless cover for the dash so it looks a bit like the nsx one, but dunno if in your mind it's tacky or classy

Thanks, but you can keep it. Not my thing at all I'm afraid.

I wasn't selling it :pinch:

Just wanted your view/inspire you

Well your decission to go back to visually stock is infectious....... But as for you preferences....... what ever floats your boat..... :whistling:

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

I think the chrome rings look much better than the stock instruments without them.

Anyways, today I started on replacing the timing belt, it's 6 years old and I'm going on a trackday event next weekend so not taking any chances, upon inspection the belt was fine however I'm still replacing it. Took some bloody effort to get to this point!

Can i buy the trim rings off you Si

...and finally! Decided it was time to fit my US-spec rear quarter panels. Those of you who have either changed your interior from S1 to S2 or have done the new belt change might be familiar with this, I wanted to keep the belt locations where they were, so the lap belt and the door pillar belts. Only way to do that was to modify the door cards, which was done. However you're left with a cutout in the rear cards where the B pillar belt would go on newer ones.

Well, in the US, for about a year only, the belts were in their original configuration, but with the fabric interiors. I managed to get one from a junk yard in Los Angeles with the help from a friend and then the other, I found online in Pennsylvania. Well, they both eventually turned up from different sides of the US and my theory and fitment worked! I have a full retro-fitted S2 interior with the S1 belt locations. Very anal, but I love doing stuff like this! Took me about a year to track both parts down and have them shipped over, they're really difficult to get as most of them have belt cutouts!

Sure! If you want, we can do a swap if you have a good condition part to exchange. I don't want anything for them.

Like that Si :thumbup1:

Yup me too.... I must get my arse into gear and fit mine after Mondo worked his magic:thumbup:

I have to agree - Nissan got this car just right out of the box. And a few subtle upgrades here and there aside, there's no need to mess with it:cool:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Was a cakewalk up until the point I was going to loosen the powersteering pump belt. Struggled with it for a good hour before I finally got it to move! 3-4 hours work tomorrow and it should be up and running again :-)

That was it for me too, Could never get the bolt undone behind the PS pulley, had to take the pulley off in the end :pinch:

They don't appear faded at all and match the rest of the interior perfectly. It looks like it always came that way. So happy with the result.

LOL how did that pic get there! Was doing some offroading!

Did you loosen the two bolts behind the pulley? I dont know if it had anything to do with it but I saw this post on the Australian 300zx club where they loosened it. I also unbolted the adjuster bracket and use a big screwdriver to get it to move... :-/

Yeah I couldn't get one of them undone and there was limited accessibility so I just took the pulley off.

I could not resist using my Zed for the Sainsbury's run again this morning - even with the leaky rad.....

Luckily it's just 6 miles each way - and there's little chance of getting stuck in traffic and overheating at that time of the morning, so I took the chance:wink:

And later, I might just fit my new steering wheel and red Z centre badge. I assume one removes the old badge first, as opposed to just sticking it over the top:biggrin:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
