  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

Still like to pop down Sometime to see your project if the offer is still open. Your only down the road.

Anytime :)

did you have to buy your own rear window seal when thay replaced the rear glass or does the glass fitted supply the seal and how much did this cost

I had a universal rubber seal put in, the fitter guy showed me three options that I could have, it took me ages to decide because they were different profiles and he kindly showed me each one in place, obviously with out bonding the glass.

He said the nissan seal has to be ordered and cost a fortune and although the seal I decided to have is a bigger profile it's actually far better than the nissan part because water isn't going to sit in the bottom corners. I will take a picture tomorrow.

£60 is all in mate.

You chose National Windscreens too. I found them excellent. Good value and the guys there take their time also.

My OEM seal wasn't old and in excellent condition and they were able to reuse mine and it looks and fits just like new.

£60 and having to come out 2 times that's very fair indeed

They charged me £150 to take out the rear screen, refit and also do both the rear quarter windows. They've very reasonable.

IMO, a small price to pay for doing the job properly and not having mask lines and overspray in the window seals (one of my biggest pet-hates).

can you just remove the seals for the side glass and leave the glass in or is it just like the rear seal and glass has to come out

The whole lot needs to come out as one. The main seal around it is a bonded rubber/metal composite that can be removed from the glass, but you'd pretty much wreck it in doing so; refitting would never happen as it distorts and messes up. I have tried it a number of times, it's why Nissan supply as a complete unit with the seal bonded on.

TBH, they're not that difficult to remove complete if you know what you're doing, certainly easier than trying to remove the seal that's bonded to the glass.

Booked my train tickets for a trip to the wizard that is Noz.

Cannae wait to see what a proper mapper can do to it after

my Wallace Performance fiasco!

so if you remove the side glass how much are new seals to fit it again ?

You make sure you cut through the bonding. There's a layer of that between the glass seal and the car body. You can't buy new seals for the side glass.

so once removed you have to buy the whole seal and new glass as one

Yes, but you don't need to if you cut them out correctly. My rear quarter glass has been in and out twice now.

Not Z related but still Jap and Nissan :)

Potentially, but that too is bonded to the rear of the seal. You can separate them. But for the cost and relative ease, I'd just have them taken out. It certainly wouldn't be as noticeable as having the rear screen masked though, but the quarter windows tuck up under the roof frame, so masking wouldn't be easy.

I'd just add that although removing the glass is obviously the proper way when repainting, a very high quality job can be achieved leaving them in.

My 1st Z had a full repaint and the glass was left in, the end result was excellent, there was no overspray. Everyone who had seen the car afterwards commented on the high quality of the job.

I'm sure there are a good few repainted cars on here as well where the glass was left in and a great job was achieved. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are some with very poor jobs to.

That is because they work from recommendations and as it is said "Your only as good as your last job!"........ And their jobs seem to be top notch........

I am seriously thinking about them for my bodywork when I get her done..........

I was on the cusp of taking mine to Bodymech, but the logistics and cost of getting a stripped car to and from Nottingham was unrealistic so I opted for a local company.
